"Respective" series...

Anyway, I was rooting for the Mavericks, as I was rooting for the Magic tonight. I was happy when they won. The Cavs get to rest up which is good, but I think the conference finals will be tough. I think they will face Orlando and beat them in 6. Until now they weren't really tested, except maybe for the last game against the Hawks. Looks like everyone who wanted the finals to be Kobe vs. LeBron might have to hold on a little tight, as the West is looking to be anyone's game right now.

Hoping for a Celtics v. Nuggets final. I will tolerate any final that doesn't involve the Lakers actually. (sorry Celtics fan here) It most likely will be Cav v Lakers, though. I think the Celtics will pull game 7 at home to go to the Eastern Conference Finals, but that is where I think their run will end. They will miss KG and Leon Powe too much against the Cavs and will lose out in six games. As for the Western Conference, I will be rooting for either the Rockets or Nuggets. Nuggets if Lakers win their series or Houston if they beat the Lakers in their game 7.

If the Lakers struggled so much against the Rockets, they should lose in four to the Nuggets.

They won't though, I have a feeling the Lakers are in for another 6-7 game series, whereas the Cavs will get through in 5 (against either of the tired sides that win today) and be very fresh in the final.

I made a bet with a guy work with for $10 on the West finals. I picked the Lakers. The bet doubles if it's a sweep. So, here are my predictions:

Cavaliers will beat the Magic in 6.
Lakers will beat the Nuggets in 7.

Cavaliers will beat the Lakers in 7.

Cleveland will finally get a damn championship. I just wish the Indians had done it first.

I will start this by saying, I am a Lakers fan (not a Kobe fan).

However, I am intrigued by the Eastern conference finals this year. I figured the Cavs were going to walk all over the Magic like they did to every other team they played so far.

The first half last night it looked like that was going to be the case. Lebron did whatever he wanted. The officials hit Orlando with so many cheap fouls even Doug Collins called them out on it. The Cavs even hit a runner from the opposite hash-mark to end the half. Everything was going their way.

But didn't win. This has now gotten interesting.

Yeah, they gave up their defense. Maybe they thought they could put the game on cruise control...it's alright, this way they got slapped straight and will start playong real good. Nothing like getting embarrassed at home.

I think 11 days off affected the Cavs, but I still dont think they will walk over the Magic until game 3 or so, when the Magic will really feel the pain from their much longer and more demanding finals campaign.

Not impressed by Denver finding a way to lose from a strong position.

The Magic really stepped up, if it wasnt for one buzzer-beating three, the Cavs would have been knocked out in 4...
Once again the Lakers look ordinary but will probably have done just enough to make the final. Whichever East side should beat the Lakers, they do not deserve the victory.

Blast it all. They should have won. I saw 'em in the 3rd quarter, they were getting too many fouls, no rebounders on shots, they only got serious in the last idk, minute? What the hell happened?

The Magic have had the harder road to travel and have held up very well.

I'm going for the Magic, purely because I didnt think they would be able to get through the last two series, and they did, and the Lakers still do not look like a coherent team, just 8 other guys following Kobe around.

I think the Cavs just had bad luck. Even in the regular season the magic had their number. Had they faced any other team, the finals would be Cavs-Lakers.

Well the Lakers have been getting the most press for a while now. Boston only go in the mix recently with McHale and Ainge making a deal to get the Celtics back to prominance. Of course Stern is going to eat it since it brings back one of the best rivalries in the NBA. The Cavs got there with LeBron being there. If he dicides to go to another team, then that could be the next Sterns team. Have I ever mentioned I really really really hate the Lakers. That hate is only rivaled by my hate for the Yankees. And White Sox.

As for the finals, of course I will be going for the Magic. I believe, even without my bias, the Magic are a better team. I don't see anyone on the Lakers stopping Howard. Gasol is still too soft. Kobe is going to get his point, but I don't see much else other than Odom. Lewis, Alston and Turkoglu are going to be too much for the rest of the Lakers. Coaching has to go to the Lakers, though.

The Lakers and been a bit unconsistent in the playoff and now it will catch up with them. Orlando in 6.

I think it is fair to say by the reaction in this thread, that no-one here could give a rats arse about the Lakers winning!

Kobe carried his team-mates and deservedly won the MVP. Took him long enough to win one without Shaq, considering the lakers have been trying to buy him a championship team for years.
