I just got ROTF scout Scattorshot, which I really like, but he has a ton of gold plastic on him in several key hinged areas. Is this an issue that I can expect to occur with him some time down the road, or has Hasbro actually done something about ensuring that it no longer happens?

Nope. Totally different kind of "gold" plastic.
The kind used on ROTF Scattorshot is just a yellowish brown plastic.
The plastic that causes GPS is the kind that has the 'sparklies' blended into it - this creates swirls, and the plastic iteslf is effectively a honeycomb around these sparklies, thus the crumbling as it ages.

Re: GPS...is there a cure?
Thanx everyone for your insights.
Does anyone know how frequently TF: Victory's KillBison is prone to breakage?
The only moving parts are the arms and when you pull the legs down. Also the leg of LioKiaser would be folded out, but I am not sure how much of that would be affected by GPS.
Has any experienced a KillBison Breakage?

Killbison breaks rather frequently. The main reason is likely they he forms the leg of Liokaiser. As such, he then becomes a load bearing component.

I've had GPS on the brain here recently, mainly because there are several figures I would like to add to my collection that are notorious for it. Liokaiser, Monstructor, and Black Zarak to name a few. Some enterprising 3rd party company should start producing replacement parts for figures that suffer from this affliction. I guess it would be a pretty small market though,

If it's the sparkles that cause the problem, is G1 Thundercracker prone to this problem, or is it simply not dense enough?

IIRC it's the combination of the sparklies and the specific kind of dye used. In other colors of sparkly plastic, it's just not dense enough AND the dye isn't as prone to it.

Thanks for that! I was wondering in case there was any advantage to owning Mexican G1s.
It makes you wonder why they didn't use gold chrome, really. :\

Perhaps the procedure was more expensive then than it is today?

Yeah, if Killbison was gold chrome it would pretty much ruin the aesthetic of Liokaiser. It would look like some cheap Asian KO. Fortunately, GPS only affects a very small number of Transformers. Unfortunately, many of those would be rare even if they didn't have GPS, thus make those toys that much harder to come by in complete form. Obviously, Black Zarak is the most notorious of the GPS victims, and commands ludicrous cash just for his parts.

Re: GPS...is there a cure?
Yeah, I have MIB KillBison, but I am in fear to play with him. I have a KO Yellow KB, that I use for a stand-in. I'm still waiting for a MIB Jaruga, Jaguar, Jalgar, D-332, whatever, at a reasonable price. I missed out on the one a few weeks back. Sniped...
Once I have him, then I'll break out my KB. Hopefully, his still in one piece.

G2 Pyro also suffers from GPS, all through the waist. Mine crumbled after just one transformation (I bought it MIB a year ago)
was in pristine condition, the waist mechanism just went to pieces.
Since I found out about GPS (after the pyro incident) I started being extra careful with my monstructor.
shame, Pyro is an awesome fig.

I doubt it. I had an original G1 Thundercracker and it never busted on me. Now Monstructor components are a different story. They definitely have GPS.

No cure, unfortunately. Copying the piece in question and painting it gold is the only answer. (Unfortunately, with a figure being made out of it completely...a nigh impossible task.)
Oh and as for GPS? It's last known strike was Legends Scorponok from the Allspark Power subline from the TF07 movie.
His tail shattered.
EDIT: G2 Pyro is an awesome figure. I'm sorry I ever sold mine. I'm really kicking myself for that one. I can't remember his Autobot counterpart's name, but I had him as well.
They were a terrific set. I wish BotCon could've rereleased those molds (in different colors, of course) because everyone should have a chance to get those suckers. Really great figures.
