I don't want to go off topic here, but it really is hard to believe that with all the complaining we TF fans do (in this case, a logical complaint), we still have it better than the GI Joe community. There are stores that don't even carry joes anymore and the amount articulation reduction done to figures that came packaged with vehicles is beyond insulting. (Anyway I believe some people are heavily exaggerating the amount of time it takes to transform ROTF Optimus. It takes me up to 4-5 minutes tops. 3 minutes if I'm in a hurry. )

Honestly, this isn't a bad thing. I've been a Transformers fan for over 20 years and the complexity has gotten out of hand, with Revenge of the Fallen being one of the worst examples. Everyone wants to trip over themselves talking about how great that Optimus Prime figure was, but I don't get it. He was impossible to transform, he felt incredibly fragile and he wasn't fun. I ended up selling mine off.

I'm all for Masterpiece figures having some complexity. After all, it's a $100 collector's piece. But the main toyline off a new movie? Why did Transformers have to stop being intuitive? As a kid, I remember having no problem transforming most bots. I barely even transform my toys anymore. They're too complicated for a 28-year-old. When I bought Sideburn from RiD I was 16. You know how long it took me to transform him the first time? About a half an hour. That's ludicrous, and kids aren't going to want to put up with that.

I'm not advocating "brickformers", but something clearly had to be done, and I'm glad Hasbro sees that.

I don't mind (and care) about the simplicity. IMO, the problem is the CGI designers just draw whatever they want on the paper and then have the toy designers scratching their heads (I'm a programmer so I know the feeling. Many customers just said whatever they like to have on the application and then I have to scratch my head to make it happen). How can you have a part that is in vehicle mode but totally disappeared in robot mode? Unicron trilogy figures were all quite simple to transform but most of them were pretty close to what they look on the screen. Also Hasbro, there is one thing I want to let you know. My son (at 6) is already not quite satisfied about his figures lack a lot of paints or wrong paints comparing to what they looked "on screen", and also the figures came with a different weapon then what they use "on the screen".

Smash-Changers have a two step transformation which literally consists of picking up the toy and banging it on something, but they're rated as too complicated for a four year old...

Simplified Transformers are for simpletons. This is the most disturbing TF news I've read in a while.

Perhaps this is the age of extinction for the brand.

Nice

really nice.

So.

Because of some pussies who can't take a challenge, a Physical one that is, not some virtual **** on the internet, we all get penalized by getting some stupid ass simplistic toys????

the fun of a transforming to is to actually get to transform it!! now, only a flick a the finger and they transform all by themselves???

this toy line is being slowly flushed down the drain...

I had a similar experience with ol' Sideburn. The first time I tried to transform him, I was REALLY hung over. I was so wasted, I nearly puked.

What bothers me about this, is that I was actually looking forward to regular type transformers being made for this line. I want good Dinobot figures. I really do. It's not that I have anything against simpler Tfs. I actually like them more in some cases because they are easier to play with. The TFP revealers and many of the commander/scout toys have been fantastic. The problem comes from the fact that Hasbro seems to have trouble balancing the quality of them. Their recent experiments (like the upcoming TFP toys) have been less than stellar so far.

An excellent point. Though I'm hoping that the TFP stuff was enough practice for Hasbro to get it more right this time. I do have to say I did enjoy quite a few of the latter TFP toys.

why? because I enjoy complex transformations, of because I find it ludicrous that someone took half an hour to transform a simplistic toy such as sideburn?? seriously, the RID line was so simlistic it was stupid.

the only transformer I had few difficulties was MP 05 Masterpiece Magatron... because he is such a poopy figure he was constantly falling apart while I was converting him!

The Goldner quote is just typical B.S. from the PR department whenever a company releases a new product. These designs don't recapture the magic of the originals, they mimic the failed designs of the later 80s like the Duocons and the pretenders, which along with the 1986 movie fallout nearly killed off the brand. What you need is a healthy balance, not extreme simplicity or extreme complexity. Give a toy that does all the work for you via springs or electronics to a kid and they will get bored within a day or two. Give them something that inspires them to let their imagination run wild and they'll love it forever.
