Thanks to Planet Iacon’s Facebook page we have our first glimpse at Hasbro’s upcoming 2016 Platinum release of Air Attack Optimus Primal in a very Optimus Prime-y color scheme.

This release continues the Platinum line’s reach WAYYY back into the Transformers mold vault as Air Attack Optimus Primal last saw release in 2002’s Robots in Disguise line.

God that mold was pretty terrible, it had some cool gimmicks, and I liked the transformation, but that punching arm ruins it for me.

You've gotta hand it to them though...Year of the Monkey ties in perfectly for Beast Wars 20th anniversary. MP Optimus Primal is also slated for next year.

If ever there were a scale to base value on worth ignoring...

I mean he has:

-A decent bot mode (but a derpy face)

-A cool beast mode (with immobile arms)

-Cool gimmicks (except for that dumb gimmick arm)

-But an awesome transformation, I love how the beast feet swap with the bot feet.

Regardless, there are 8 available on eBay (which is the only way of getting hands on one) a ton of people started at Beast Wars. Seeing as we're getting an MP Primal, this is good news on a HTF mold.

I always liked that mold. I'm not sure about those colors, though... The classic Optimus colors just clash with organic alt modes.

Weibo.com user Starscream韋 has come across images of a new redeco for the Platinum Edition line, revolving around the Chinese zodiac sign of the Monkey for the next year. Notified by fellow Seibertronians skywarpt and D-Maximus_Prime.

It looks like Beast Machines Air Attack Optimus Primal will be making a return in red and blue - and so very close to the Beast Wars 20th anniversary, and the new Takara MP Optimus Primal. Will you hunting this one out? Let us know in the Energon Pub!

I'll wait for better pictures before passing judgement on the color scheme, but so far, it look fun. Way better than clear and creamy butterscotch.

2 things that will prevent me for ever buying him though. I already have the original mold and I'm sure TrU will want to sell the thing 200$ or something, based on the previous absurd YOTG prices.

Looks a little hokey for my tastes.

Will most likely Pass, but it would be cool for someone to get a Prime collection going for each one of the years.

It will be mine. Perhaps the only series I love better than Beast Wars is Beast Machines and I remember how hyped I was to find Air Attack Optimus Primal at the Kay Bee in the Granite Run Mall in my twenties. That sentence is pure nostalgia because none of that exists anymore!

This could be the first "Year of the ____" Optimus toy I wind up purchasing! I skipped out on the Dragon, Snake, Horse, and Goat figures, but a G1 Optimus-themed redeco of Optimus Primal (who winds up looking like Primal Prime as a result) is enough to pique my interest!

But then I again, I still don't own the Air Attack Optimus Primal mold, so my lacking that mold could be influencing my wanting of this figure. If I already owned it (or ever track down the original before this comes out), that could deter me from wanting this new one.

That head just looks really off on such a clearly Prime-like deco. It's already a heavy homage. Might as well finish the homage.

I'm very intrigued because I don't own this mold and I've heard he's a some what decent figure. Seeing as he's probably going to be a Toys'R'us exclusive I'll be seeing hundreds of them at retail so I shall wait until then.

It's still Primal's head, whom this figure is meant to be.

Besides, the "Year of the ____" Optimus toys are always straight redecos, never remolds.
