How they might improve Megatron for a new MP mold
How they might improve Megatron for a new MP mold

I always thought the design on the G1 cartoon was WAY off. He seemed too bulky in the cartoon to be able to transform into a gun.
I would say how ever that there are only a few small things I would change in the MP-05, and they are merely cosmetic
1. Somehow lighten the fusion cannon
while I don't mind the size of it, it weighed too much for the figure to stand properly without some sort of support.
2. Pay attention to color scheme.
Megatron's elbows were red, not black. His hands were just black, not silver and black.
3. The feet look nothing like his feet in the show.
Is he wearing Chinese sandals? Even though they added to the pose ability of the figure, they just look way off in comparison to who they were in the cartoon.
If Takara is going to do a new MP mold for Megs, I wouldn't mind a smaller version of the MP-05 if they fixed these issues (and the frailty issues others complain of).
One idea they could try (and this would help Takara and Hasbro get around the whole VW licensing issue on Bumblebee too) is to create the figure so that it transforms into the character's Cybertronian alt mode. As long as the character's robot mode looked like he did in the G1 cartoon, I don't think a lot of collectors would mind the different alt mode. Besides, we never saw Megatron's Cybertronian alt mode before the Ark crashed on Earth, so this would leave engineers open to ANY alt mode option that would allow us to have Megatron's robot mode as we remember him.

I agree.
I assume they might go for a gun. The gun mode doesn't need to be a walther. Striving for that accuracy can hold back the toy.

I disagree. Megs is a hard design to translate into an accurate toy, but A) there's a challenge and B) MP would not be a MP if it weren't perfect to look at.
So we can't actually use mass-shifting, so the size is always going to be off, but then again, MP Convoy would be very expensive if he's to scale with his screen counterpart. Indeed, look at Hegemon, the proportions CAN work on that design. So why can't an official MP with more funding do better?
I agree that MP05 was a good looking toy, but ultimately we can do better.

Hegemon is NOT perfect, but dammit if it doesn't look close enough.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

IMO, they screwed up the legs / gunhandle. Just looks wrong in both modes. It's just further proof that G1 Megatron truly is evil. No one can get it right.

"screwed up" is rather strong, but I get what you mean. I prefer the Classics/Henkei styling for the feet/boots. The gun handle doesn't look too bad though.

I see it's a challenge, but to me, it seems they failed that challenge the first go around. I think it's time for a different approach. Make Megatron look like Megatron, the challenged should then be to give him an alt mode that doesn't disappoint. Be it tank, gun, or what have you. I don't think either mode should be sacrificed, but I do think robot mode should be priority.

Edit* And fix the bal joints on his hips and shoulders. I can touch the figure without them popping off. I always end up taking them off when I transform it and reattach them when I'm done.

I really hope that is the case. I have MP05 and I love it. Sure its not perfect, but its a damn nice MP. If they do a new MP Megs as a gun again, they could make some improvements to the transformation and make some parts a little sturdier.
I am thinking that Takara/Hasbro may actually make the new MP Megs as G2 tank. Easier to scale, and design transformation. Plus as GREAT as he was as a Gun, he was pretty damn cool as a Tank.

I'd be down for that. Obvious purple repaint aside, Hasbro would be all over it! They'd have that out to every TRU in the western hemisphere (except Quebec evidently) within 6 months!
Hell, they could even do Reverse Convoy!

Based on all your horror stories, I still haven't transformed him. Given that he is an iconic counterbalance to Optimus, smart money is that Tomy will make one. I wonder if they'll give him thicker eyebrows this time? Or better yet, a port for the "Heart of Cybertron" and a hidden panel on his foot where he hid the energon saber he used to slash Optimus in the 1986 movie.

I'm not claiming Hegemon is perfect, but he is damn near perfect. Takara really should get a few, take notes then improve on it significantly. What MP05 did wrong was try to emulate the G1 transformation which looked nothing like the character in the show. Megatron's head doesn't need to be the back of the gun. Hegemon's torso opens clam style and the head flips inside. The double hinge for the lower half on the body for Hegemon was perfectly engineered. Also, the arm cannon looks the perfect size in bot and gun mode and it doesn't need to be removed for transformation. The legs do need work, I don't deny it but I think working on a large Masterpiece scale, this is something they can do. I would rather have them split like Hegemon and not like G1 Megatron. They end up too skinny that way. Hegs looks bulky but I haven't felt my hand is stretched when holding him. Also, for the love of god, get the face right. I really don't like the face and head design on MP05. One last improvement, which going by MP10 they probably will do, give him his stock and silencer
Hegemon is like 95% perfect, I hope Takara take it to 100%

I have transformed MP05 multiple times without breakage. It feels like I might once or twice but he never has. MP05 looks best in gun mode with the 3rd party stock and silencer.

I really love the look of MP-05. If he was to be improved, reference his skinny legs and funny feet, seeing as he comes with a seperate stock etc, couldnt a couple of pieces be made to give bulk to the legs and feet which then combine with the stock when in alt gun mode?
PM ME PLEASE!-
