Same here I wish they spent the time and money on changing the hips and forearms.
Just pure speculation on my part, but I don't think they put any extra effort into making a third "G1 toy" bot mode. It seems more like a "happy accident" to me.
I highly doubt that.
Looking to swap a takara Titan class fortress maximus head for a Hasbro US retail Titan fortress maximus head.
Would alternatively buy a Hasbro US retail fortress maximus head on its own if anyone had one for sale.

What's wrong with the window forearms? I think they look at least okay, if not awesome!
Ironhide never had window forearms so it's an eye sore because the character never had them. It's just annoying when other mps were very clean and this one seems rushed and thrown together. Since the mp line began this is the one I've been waiting for and I'm really disappointed.
It's better there than somewhere else... (like on his hips or something.) In other words, you do you, and me do me.

Well as a massive fan of the character who was a pivotal character to have a lacklustre representation in comparison to some lesser characters it's disappointing.

Remember, it doesn't have to be 100 percent g1 accurate. Relax, take a deep breath, and remember that g1 is only one version of Ironhide, and he can wear a tool belt if he wants to. The only part I actually hate is the butt wheels, but other than that he's pretty damn good.

You're missing the point. Lesser characters have gotten a better job done on them than what Ironhide and ratchet have received. It is massively disappointing.

Except that's precisely the tagline and credo of the mp line.
Accurate, licensed vehicles with the cartoon bot mode shoved into it unceremoniously - whether it works or not - so yeah, to them, it does have to be 100% accurate

Being completely honest, for whatever reason, Ratchet makes that mold work so much better than Ironhide did, it can't just be the different diaper... maybe the colors have something to do with it

I actually agree. I have no idea why but Ratchet looks better for some reason...
It is a strange conundrum, but I think it has everything to do with color. Color is powerful stuff. Plays interesting games with human visual perception.
Question: Can anyone provide written documentation from Takara or one of their designers that legitimizes this mission of the MP line? Meaning what Hellscream posted above about real world alt modes and G1 toon accuracy. I'm just curious if this has been stated by Takara or is it something that has been extrapolated by the fans.

Why? I think if it were an additional mode, then it would be in the instructions. Or we would have at least gotten a pic of it from TFyuki. I think it was the work of fans really trying to make something happen for the pure fun of it.

JMO of course.
I share this opinion. Takara would have made a bigger deal of it from the get go. I think the only OG homages they intended were the face and the sled.

**** hotmail..... Thanks to them decided to suddenly put HLJ emails in my junk folder, I didn't see the request for payment email I was sent. Now Ironhide isngoimg to be several days later then I wanted.

Speculating here, but I wonder if the design team incorporates "unofficial" or rather unspecified nods to the G1 toys and cartoon with some of these MPs.

I give equal odds either way. This is the kind of gimmick masterpiece is infamous for. This is also the type of fanboy wankery we are infamous for.

It is a "nice" coincidence that you can position the weird face, in the windshield, in robot mode.
I'm actually starting to form the opinion that trying to use the whole van was a mistake.
They could've had a thin shell that made up the sled detatch completely, leaving us with nothing but a potentially more usable mass of kibble free plastic.
Plus... although Ironhide never did it - his remold buddy Ratchet did. Once.

Which was also the only piece of his model that had any vehicular elements.
Plus, the cartoon model reshaped the windshield from being a trapezoid to a rectangle.

I think, before calling a product lackluster you could at least handle it personally first. Then judge the product as a whole. Images alone can't give you the actual feel. Just saying.

Like people, there are some items, inanimate objects that are more telegenic. It's a hold over from our evolutionary past in the fight or flight response/defensive mechanism.
It is analogous to seeing J.C. on a potato chip or something.

Depends on how long you have been playing with, handling, and collecting transformers. After 30+ years, I'm a pretty good judge on what I'll think of a figure off of pics alone.

I dunno... my critiques of the figure aside, it does do a pretty good job of integrating the parts. It's the darn hip panels that kill him, and it seems some creative engineering could have done away with those, or placed them differently.

Well the mod shows that there is ample clearance for them to fit under the armpits, even if that meant additional hinges in under the chest, I think it could have been accomplished if they removed the homage/gimmicks/easter egss from the designs
