That was the greatest video game magazine out there.

I have subscriptions to both...well, HAD is a better term now.
This really sucks. GI is good, but EGM was so much better. I guess this kind of thing was bound to happen ever since the loss of Hsu&Chan.

I need to get around to re-subscribing to GI. My favorite reviews, however, are Zero punctuation.

Even though I let my subscription run out a few months ago and felt that the quality and quantity has been going down over the past year or so(then again, it might be because I'm in a bit of a gaming lull and haven't embraced "Next-gen" yet), I do think it sucks that EGM is ending.
I must admit, they were a great magazine, and had some great issues and articles.

I agree wholeheartedly. I neglected my subscription too when I went to college and I regret not renewing it. Yeah, the quality dipped, but it was still the best video game magazine in print.
The closing of EGM hit me pretty hard. It took a few days for the news to sink in. Not only is one of my favorite magazines halting production after an amazing 20 year run, but it took the rag's closing to finally convince me the media industry as a whole is not so much shifting online, rather, it's falling apart.
Now's not a good time to be in print gaming media. Or any media for that matter.

Son of a bitch, I finally subscibed to EGM last month after looking at those two year subscriptions for $24 cards for quite a few months. Oh well, Play here I come.

Sometimes, just checking one more store isn't worth it

Sad to hear it. I used to love that magazine and even had a subscription for a while. I still have issues from as far back as 1993 (not in the best of shape but could never get ride of them).
I hadn't kept up with the magazine in recent years so I can't speak for quality. But back in the heyday, it was definitely one of the best.

Nice.
I've started reading Nintendo Power for the first time after letting my subscription run out 15 years ago. It's definitely matured a lot.
OPM was great way back in the day, too. I remember them giving great coverage to RPGs (specifically giving Suikoden II a full page review and naming it one of the 25 best games on the PS1, whereas EGM mostly overlooked it). Too bad I stopped reading that rag after I bought a Dreamcast.

Yeah magazines seem to not care about RPGS so much. I still own an OPM magazine dedicated all the best RPGs.

I used to read NP. Sometimes, I think they're a little too easy on the reviews. Hmmm, I should start reading NP again...
