Hi. I apologize if this is the incorrect section of this forum. I own an unopened Voltes V and am trying to obtain information about it. I am not quote sure if it is a Transformer. But somehow related? Is there a section or a related forum where this item is discussed?

I have inserted a picture of the item in case anyone might be interested.

You posted it in exactly the correct section, tho the image failed to load. No worries, I'll fix it for you:

Simply right-click on the image and select "Copy Image Location", or whatever counterpart your browser uses

For sake of clarity, Transformers are made only by Hasbro or TakaraTomy (with some imports from other companies in 1985), but they were only part of the transforming robot craze (or Super Robots) of the 70's and 80's.

In Japan, Bandai was the big boy when it comes to robot toys (and still is), with the Chogokin (super alloy) line of die cast toys being their hallmark. Voltes V was one of them, released in 1978 along with its own animated series, Choudenji Machine Voltes V.

What you have there is the imported US version, part of the Godaikin line in 1983, which has a handful of those Chogokin robots. To be precise it's the bigger DX version.

Thanks for the reply. When I searched on eBay for "Voltes V" a recent sale was displayed for $9k! Is that possible? From the listing's images it looks to be the same item.

My brother purchased it from a toy store in Northampton and it sat in his closet for decades until he gave it to my son, where in turn it sat in a closet for another 10 years. My son never opened it to play with it.

Is it as collectible as Transformers? Hang on to it?

People will quote far out prices most of which are unrealistic.

First, hows the condition? Complete? Rusty? Box condition?

Last I saw from Japan it cost (see image) it cost around Y 350000 or about US$ 3,122.00 at the current exchange rate.

Unless it's the same condition as the image I posted, good luck selling it for $ 9K

But if it was the JP box, well that's another story. That would fetch a much higher range but not $ 9K. Maybe around $5K

He does have a large fanbase in Europe and some parts of SEA.

Collectible? Definitely but only for those who have some cultural exposure to him.

It looks to me the item has never been opened. The model is wrapped tight in plastic and stapled.

Yours being the Godaikin version might be a far stretch to get to 5K though

If its better (mint?) than the condition of the image I posted, then $5K tops or you find a batshit crazy fan ( I mean it in a nice term btw) who'll go for more then good for you.

It only being sold for $2K with ZERO bids.

It's not even complete.

As I mentioned before in my previous, a JP box has a much higher asking price. The most you can get here tops is $4k (a big if at a good day) Good luck.

My bad, I copied the incorrect eBay link above!

I messaged the eBay seller of the unopened in-box Voltes V and he replied he did indeed receive $9K for it. He also verified my item is identical to his.

So, I'll throw it up on eBay and see what happens.

I enjoy Super Robot series very much, so I purchase all the Physical media I can , Discotek/Eastern Star has been offering quite a bit usually 1 release per month, but yes I do see after a few months, these usually end up on Tubi. I just got the most recent series Galaxy Cyclone Braiger! Sadly there are no Super Robot /Mecha releases for October or November. Hopefully in a few weeks when Decembers releases are revealed, it will yield at least one new series to purchase.

I'm happy to have the Combattler V, Voltes V, and Daimos trilogy now completed.
