I wanted a more show-accurate Beast Machines Megs so I created this. I used some of those twist-ties from Has/Tak packaging for the cabling that attaches to his control suit (always knew I'd find a use for those things ) and I used the arms from Electrostatic Jolt (a figure that in and of itself was quite a disappointment, so no big loss there ).

He still needs some paint to get rid of the yellow on the front of the cloak and I'll likely paint his entire helmet in a blue-gray color to fit more with its look on the show and of course I'll paint the arms as well in a gray or metallic gray to capture the show look.

He can actually hang from the cabling (I took the picture while holding him up by the cabling and dangling it in front of my camera) so I'll likely hang him from the top of one of my shelves where I have my fleet of various Vehicons.

A bit of progress, I'm still trying to decide if I should leave the color as-is (dark ghost gray) or if I should darken it by mixing in a bit of blue and black to get a deeper/bluer tone like on the show.

I don't know what's cooler.

• The fact that someone's willing to show attention to Beast Machines.
• The fact that you're making a semi-decent figure and giving him a unique touch
or
• The fact you did find a use for those bloody twist ties.

Yep, I never thought those things would prove so useful. As soon as I got the idea for this project, I immediately started saving those twist ties, thank goodness some figures still use them (most Hasbro products and even some Takara products are now using the twisted paper ones, which obviously wouldn't work too well for this project).

I've now got Megs surrounded by his Vehicon army. I didn't modify any of them too much (though I did give Strika some purple paint to make her look more like her appearance on the show).

Once Megs is done, I'll probably take a pic of him with his army.

Yep, it was actually your post that motivated me to finally get going on this project. I'd been planning on doing it, but just hadn't gotten around to it. Once I saw your post, I grabbed my twist ties and got to work .

Here's an updated pic. I blended some blue with that gray color I was using to give it a darker/bluer look like on the show. The flash on my camera makes it look pretty bright, it's actually quite a bit darker in person (I am not a photographer ). Anyway, here's the new pic:

why couldn't they make the toy this good anyway?

With Beast Wars, during season 1, the writers/show producers took many liberties with the appearance of the characters vs how their actual toys looked, in seasons 2 and 3, they were instructed by Hasbro to base the characters' appearances strictly on the appearance of the toys themselves, thus we get pretty show-accurate toys in the Transmetals/Fuzors lines.

With Beast Machines, they pretty much threw out the entire idea of making the character designs in the show look anything like the toys that Hasbro was producing, so it's hard to find anything screen-accurate for many of the characters, though there are a few exceptions (Tank Drone looks just like Tankor and his drones, Motorcycle Drone looks just like Thrust and his drones and there are a few others, but not many).

With Prime, I believe that Hasbro is deliberately modeling the appearance of each character on the show directly after the appearance of the toys themselves, which explains why the toys look so darn show-accurate. In my opinion, that's the best way of doing things since the show is simply a vehicle for selling the toys (in addition to grabbing ratings for the Hub of course).

I just saw the notification in my inbox about the reply to this thread. Thanks for the interest in my custom work. I actually haven't really modified my custom Beast Machines Megs beyond what you see in the last photo I posted. I have him hanging above one of my toy shelves towards the back with my fleet of Vehicons below filling the shelf to the front and above the front of the shelf hangs my Grand Mal Megs (another figure I customized for show accuracy, though all I've done to it is remove the "spider" legs so that it's just a head as it was on the show).

I've actually got a pretty decent Vehicon army with my Generals being represented mostly by their Japanese Takara counterparts (since they tend to use more show accurate colors, at least for Thrust and Tankor) standing in their bot modes (I made a special stand for Thrust so he can stand on his unicycle style wheel as on the show) with 2 or more Hasbro counterparts in vehicle mode behind each General to represent their drones. I did do some paint work on Strika (Takara version) to make her bot mode more show accurate and I used another copy of the Japanese version as her Vehicon drone since the Hasbro version was too far off model for my liking. They're all Beast Machines/Beast Wars Returns (as it's called in Japan) figures as I never acquired the Generations Tankor figure and it probably wouldn't scale well with the smaller Vehicon figures anyway, being a full sized Deluxe and all.

I even have an Optimal Optimus from the Titanium series to represent Megatron's Optimal form from the end of Beast Machines (never did build that custom maintenance drone version, but he wasn't in that body for very long anyway).

Wow, sounds like an awesome display, also if what Burn says is true, I might be responsible for the return of 2 members now! (That last part is a joke about Madeus Prime)
