Classics Cliffjumper....err more like Bumblejumper

I just got Cliffjumper. One of my favorite characters from the show.
So when I open him up, and transform him, except for the differences in paint apps here and there, he is exactly the same as Bumblebee.
Now I was a liitle hurt in the choice of red, more of a cherry red, than a darker maroon red like the old toy and show. I disagree totally with the light grey apps on the arm and feet. Worse is those red chairs with the horrible paint job on that as well.
Now, what really smarts me, is the mold itself. I own both the original bumblebee and cliffjumper, and the heads are not in anyway identical...like the classics Bumblebee and Cliffjumper heads are. The feet are the same as well, when the mold change on that differs too.
So after close inspection, its more like the old red Bumblebee, AKA Bumblejumper.
I hope this isn't a trend with the Classics' line.
We have already gotten the White Ultra magnus..or White Prime, and a red Bumblebee AKA Cliffjumper, whta's next, a purple repaint of Megatron?

Err... the original Bumblebee didn't even have a face, just a faceplate, and besides the rounded horns on the helmet the Classics mould isn't really closer to either version. The entire mould is an amalgamation of both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper's animated/comic versions. A slight remould would have been nice but in this case, considering this is a main line and not a collector-oriented line like Alternators, it was either this or no Cliffjumper at all.
As for a trend... as of now, the line might not be around long enough for any sort of trend.

Allow me to explain in the simplest way I can
repaints = New character based off a old mold, easily done
remolds = New sculpt, more time and less easy
any questions?

It's not a main line. It is a filler line to maintain shelf space and fan interest while we wait for the movie line to hit the shelves. Which makes remolds even less likely. Except for the odd tweaks like Bumblebee's chest sticker and the seeker vents.

First, just because nobody has said it yet, Red Bumblebee is not Bumblejumper.
Second, I'm actually quite happy with Classics Cliffjumper. Granted, a different head would have made it infinitely better but I really like the mold and i think it's a great figure. Heck, they could do a blue version and call it Beachcomber and I'd be ecstatic.

By main line I meant it's a primary line. It's filling the same shelf space as Cybertron was and Energon before it. As in it isn't a side-line like Alternators, Titanium, or the upcoming fast-action battlers. It may not be intended to last for very long but for all purposes it is currently the main line.

I think the overall head sculpt is actually closer to Cliffjumper's original (show) head and less like Bumblebee's head. Though the face is totally BB's in appearance. So it is like a half and half situation and I can live with that.

Bah! Speak for yourself. I got one chance to look for him and Skywarp last weekend and struck out. I even actually had the money to buy him at the time.

It would have been Cliffjumper if the head had minor re-tooling so the face was different as well as the horns. Still, this satisfies me. I'll take it thank you very much.

Given the fairly major redesign needed to turn Starscream into Ramjet (are there versions with retooled wings coming for Dirge and Thrust?), I'm surprised they didn't do a simple retool of BB's head for the Cliffjumper release. I'm happy enough with the figure as it is, but I do think it would have been massively better if it were instantly recognisable as Cliffjumper rather than 'Red Bumblebee'.

Thank you. Bumblejumper was actually a mistake in the G1 line, a third mold was released in both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper packaging, only in yellow, probably to get rid of overstock. Because of this, he's the most rare and expensive Minibot to pick up nowadays.
That aside, I do agree with your assessment of C-Cliffjumper. He's the first Classic that I was truly disappointed with. The red is too bright, the silver paint apps are gaudy, and he really needed a new head mold. But, I'll concede my bias that the Bumblebee mold is overrated to begin with. I don't hate him, but I wish that I would have waited for a sale or something, I don't think he's worth the money at all.
Especially considering the extensive retooling that Ramjet underwent, you'd think that they could have at least given Cliffy him a new head sculpt. Ah well, no line can be perfect.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

What do you expect, Takara and Hasbro are the masters of repaints. Look at the seekers, from a single design, they can get 4 characters (Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Sunstorm), add a slight alteration, get 3 more (Thrust, Ramjet, Dirge), totaling 7 characters, count them, 7.

So, you missed the whole G1 era right? Also, the blatantly obvious pictures on the box that he was the same exact mold?
Sorry but this should have been old news since they showed the toy in the first place(that he is exactly the same).
As far as the head I think they took some from each and thought it would be a viable face to suite each character.

I'll admit, I was pretty ticked when I learnt that they'd just painted Classics Bumblebee red and called him Classics Cliffjumper. However, seeing the pictures in the Vector Sigma Database makes me want him more than I want C Bumblebee.

Really??...
Anyway...all they did was paint over the hole in Bumblebee's head, and they left the chin unpainted.
And yes, I'm aware of the seekers, but damn, they still could have remolded the head slightly.

I just got Cliffjumper, Ramjet, Magnus/Skywarp and I love them all! Sure Cliffjumper is just a touch too fruit roll up red, but I don't mind it all that much. I would have rathered them give him a different attachment then a new head mould, but alas neither happend.
It's a shame to see this line fall through. It was nice filler, but in my opinion fell just short of filling that gap. (and yes AA told the fans this was nothing more then filler until the movie came out, not a main line. Main lines follow a full comic run, show or movie)

So why not make a show or comic that falls after the Headmasters that could use these nicely?
Well, I suppose that some of the seekers would have to find their way back from being transformed into Scourge and Cyclonus' armada...
Maybe a filler for between, what, season 2 and the movie? There seems to be a bunch of time and a perfect use for these figures.
I'm just rambling, sorry...

think he was refering to all the rest of g1, specificly the autobot cars. bluestreak, prowl, smokescreen all the same robot, diffrent paints,
inferno and grapple, 1 minor mod on the vehicle
hoist and trailbreaker, again 1 minor mold variation on the vehicle, same with ratchet and ironhide.
the fact that hasbro did a very large amount of remolding for ramjet is beyond surpriseing. never saw that comming, since transformers are built on repaints.

If they plan to restart the line after the film or reuse the moulds as exclusives then it makes perfect sense. If they were to do six seekers with identical moulds then customers and potentially even retailers might complain. Remould it and you can double your use and still save by not having to create an entirely new mould. If they were to give Dirge and Thrust remoulded wings, now that would be shocking.

I have a friend who picked up a green Bumper on ebay last year. Really nice one.
I used to have the rarest mini-bot ever. The Yellow Mexican Tailgate, sealed in package, but sold him to help pay for my wedding. To my knowledge there is only one is existance.
