SKowl, you make a lot of points. Most I agree with. But my kid loves the Power Ranger toys and I wouldn't buy them if they were junk. They have massive articulation, have no problem standing on their own and are ever increasing the quality.

Well I haven't kept up with any Power Rangers stuff for years, but you get the point I'm trying to make. There are plenty of worse toys and toy-makers out there. Fans should be thankful that our favourite transforming robots are in the right hands.
btw, nice avatar Discharge. Submarauder rules.

Good points, all. Not that 50 more examples of such would ebb the tide of whiners, but I agree nonetheless.

I just wanna say age has nothing to do with how a person puts their opinion across or argues their view.
I also say BLASPHEMY!!!!
I may be an ODB, but even I can see that Hasbro are doing a good job.
WARNING UNDISGRUNTLEMENT AHOY!!!!
For a while DB have been complaining about the availability of tfs in the UK. And, of recent times, we've seen a massive increase of tf availability. Not as good as the US, but an improvement non the less. Heck, we're getting the target exclusive UM and SW set!
END OF UNDISGRUNTLEMENT!!!!
Hasbro do listen to the fans. Most of the time.
And there's no one I'd rather have making them.
Let's hope that the UK continue to see an improvement in tf availability.
One for all, and all for us!

The Alien and Predator toys that came out a few years ago were articulated, detailed and not fragile. As were the first 4-5 figure lines. They were detailed and built well. Just in the past few years Mcfarlen made the none moveing figures. And besides he's makeing regular figs now. And so your telling me that Hasbros crap isnt Fragile? Mcfarlens figs are solid plastic. Unlike hasbros hollow figures. Mcfarlen would do a much better job then Hasbro. Hell kenner would do a better job. It sucks that Habro bought them out.
No, I haven't been collecting M-c-F-a-r-l-a-n-e Toys any time recently. I do remember their single accursed attempt at a real mecha line, though, and please God, I don't want to see them again. And those things still got repainted anyway.
What experience does McFarlane have in transforming robots? A gestalt you have to glue together most certainly does not make them the next Hasbro. Transformers exist the way they currently do because they've been made by Hasbro in the first place. Classics exists because of Hasbro, and you see fit to even remotely consider that in the hands of a company that comes up with comepletely different toys could suddenly make it all better?
Not to mention I have paid attention to the sorts of designs McFarlane comes up with for its lines. Ignoring the gore in some of the more adult figures, McFarlane is all about a very realistic, and slightly stylistic design. The sort of thing that the movie characters remind me of. And the sort of thing their self-created mecha line was like. Overdetailed, completely alien head designs, wonky bodily proportions, nothing at all like the TFs most movie-haters would prefer. McFarlane does an exceptional job at emulating existing designs, and that's about it.
Let's not forget what sort of markets Hasbro and McFarlane have. Hasbro has stated time and again, including at Botcon, that collectors are only a portion of their market. Kids make up most of their sales. Hasbro generally plays a game of balancing nods and homages to older characters with kid-friendly and appealing toys. McFarlane is purely about collectors. They specifically try to cater to fans and cover subject material Hasbro would never touch. Two companies that are so different in philosophy, marketing and design strategy, and demographic cannot be compared to each other so flagrantly.
To put it into layman's terms, this thread is stoopid and you smell funny.

I'll tell ya, when I went to the OTFFC 2004 Chicago, I filled out the Questionnaire they offered for the energon spears. It was like 100 pages long. I remember they specifically asked for you to list the Transformers toys we like to see. Among that I mentioned the G1 Cybertron seekers. Sure they looked like pyramids but they have a great design. While the new Cybertron cartoon toys were not exact they seemed to make somewhat of an effort in shape. That tells me they are trying to make the toys that people are desiring. The one thing they never made that I would have loved were energon star and weapon supplement packs . The energon weapons are perfect for the Classics as the pegs are the same size.

I disagree. The Hasbro TF team does nothing BUT listen to the fans. TF collectors have no idea how lucky they are the Hasbro puts so much effort into pleasing the fanbase. If Hasbro didn't listen to fans, we would not have gotten Classics in the first place. And we would not have gotten half of the great figures of characters that fans WANT to see over and over again. Do you think Hasbro would have made a WW Prime and Fallen figure if it wasn't for us? What 10 year old kid is going to buy a die-cast metal, 30$ figure of a character exclusive to a more adult-oriented comic book series?
If Hasbro had a poll on their website allowing fans to vote on which characters they wanted made into toys, we would be left with the same characters and toys we have now.

So next time anyone wants to complain about Hasbro making the TF toys, go pick up a Power Rangers Bandai figure or those cheap teeny-weeny Star Wars figures that can't even stand up and compare them in terms or plastic quality, playability, poseability, paint detail, gimmicks, character description among others. Transformers are head and shoulders above any other toy line.
Funny thing is most people will ignore this.
One fact you can't ignore is that Hasbro posted great profits with Transformers leading away. So I'm sure financial statements make this whole argument null and void.

I have nothing to add because I'd probably just end up sounding as p'od as others of you about the choices that were offered to make TF toys instead.
Skowl good points sir.
I do have some of the first waves of McFarlane figures from back in college when I was on TF hiatus, and they are not without their flaws. They break and are unposeable, statues too. Still the amount of detail in them boggles the mind!
As far as JAKKs wrestling toys, they do seem to come with some good accessories (tables, chairs, feather boas, and female managers with big...ideas), and cover many different character and eras fairly well, but I am not sure how this would transfer to blockier, non-realistic robots that do more than pose with kicks, punch, etc. Nothing in the JAKKs line exists to compare to a TF.
HASBRO has plenty of my money, so they must be doing a really good job, I don't usually throw it away for just anything. The fact that I did not buy all the Roadbots from Happywell, and do not purchase other transforming TFs like the Macross Valkries, says something for what HASBRO does, they create a product that I want to buy when compared to similar products, and will keep buying because I know they do things to try to please the collector ('Homages') and still try to keep things fresh for the kids so they will make a profit.
Perfect no, but darn good!

are you 5 years old or something? that is the lamest line i have ever heard.
And if Mcfalen were to make toys for the new TF movie they would be good because they take production photos, sculptures,CGI stills and props from the movie to create there figures. They would also work with ILM so they get it right. Evrey movie figure that Mcfarlen has done they did it in this way. Thats why they all look like they came from the movie and move and have props like the movie. So "in layman's terms" Mcfarlen would make good TF movie figures. They would be so detailed and complex that you would think that they were used in the movie itself. They would probibly be like the masterpeice line but with more detail and a little cheaper.

If McFarlen made the movie toys, not only would they look like the horrible Movie tfs, but they would also be very expensive and impossible to find anywhere but a few specialist stores.

For one i like the movie bots. Not the heads but the rest is ok. And I find Mcfarlen figures evrey were out here in NY. Toys R Us and KB Toys always have them. They even had the Cloked Predator figure that was hard to find. And how would they be expensive? McFarlen figures are always priced well. The most you'll spend on a figure is $35-$40 for the 12in figures. And im not saying i dont like all the TFs hasbro makes im saying that other toy makers could do a better job than hasbro. The Unicron Saga was Japanese. Takara's crap, not Hasbro's.
I too don't mind the movie bodies as much as I used to, but nevertheless they are still hideous.
I have never seen a single McFarlane toy over here. Shows how readily available they are, doesn't it?

I think McFarlane would do a good job with the movie designs, just as statuettes though, not toys.
And McFarlane's stuff is everywhere here. I don't know why everyone is saying it's so rare...

Megatron_Wolf wrote:And im not saying i dont like all the TFs hasbro makes im saying that other toy makers could do a better job than hasbro.
Let's start with your questionable assertion that Hasbro is doing something wrong to begin with shall we?
Now, this is a hard thing to address, so we have to be careful. Just about the only quantifiable way to determine if Hasbro is making poor product that people do not want is through sales.
Unfortunately for your ill-fated argument, sales numbers for Transformers have been fantastic over the past few years. Yearly sales totals show Transformers to be one of the most successful brands on the market.
It looks like people and children are voting with their dollars.
And those dollars are voting for Hasbro.
The only figures hasbro has done well since RID was the classics line.
Now, without referenceing my above argument (that would be too easy...) I'm going to attack what I believe to be the root of your misguided argument.
RiD, was the last line which had an overtly "Collector Look" to it. Meaning that the toys were in large part meant to represent real life vechiles.
What you and I are not mentioning here is the Alternator line. Which has consistantly sold out. At any rate, that's a digression from my main point, which is that you are unhappy that recent releases have been geared towards both collectors AND children.
Seeing as how very little Transformers mechandise ever goes truely on clearance or for that matter, on clearance at all. I'd have to say that the past few years of Transformers have been overwhelming successes.
And if you take a hasbor TF and a Tarkara TF and put them side by side you'll see that the Tarkara version is better.
Pot, this is Kettle, you're black.
Essentially, your statement here is crap. If it's a matter of opinion on your part, again, crap.
True enough there have been differences between the US and Japanese releases, but in no possible world can you generalize the lot of toys the way you did. Here is a concete to you Vector Prime and Voyager Starscream from Cybertron were better than their US counterparts. In the same breath, I can't begin to list the number of US releases which have actually been MORE show accurate since the end of Armada.
To put another feather in Hasbro's cap, how many of the distinctly Japanese releases have they worked to bring to us here? Like your BW Prime and Megs reissues at less than half the cost of what people imported them for?
Thank Hasbro for that.
If hasbro would stop buying out evrey toy company then they could use that money to make better products. And within 3-5 years evrey thing will be made by hasbro. Im sure they will either buyout or team with evrey other toy company there is.
So? What are you some kind of Communist? You don't appreciate good business sense? Would you rather they were forced into a merger to save their corporation like Takara was?
Even if hasbro would take a little more time while makeing th figures they would be better. All they want to do is ship out the products as fast as they can. Thats why the paint jobs on some figures are horrible. Or the figure is missing paint. I have figures from evert TF line and ive seen that for evrey 3 stepts hasbro takes they take one step back.
Name 10 figures that have consistently poor paint jobs.
I dare you.
There used to be a time when Takara was king of paint detailing. Not anymore. Releases like Cryoscourge, ...no wait, all of Cybertron had great paint schemes. Perhaps if this were 4 or 5 years ago and we were discussing Armada I might say, "yea, they could use some work.".
But it's not.
So I won't.
Hasbro is never going to go away but if we bitch and complane enough to them perhaps they will make better products.
Why don't you go back and read Skowl's excellent list of things Hasbro has provided us. Then re-check your knee jerk reaction.
Time's up bub.
It was only cool to rag on Hasbro a few years ago.
They listened.
Didn't you get the memo?

Let's start with your questionable assertion that Hasbro is doing
something wrong to begin with shall we?
Now, this is a hard thing to address, so we have to be careful. Just
about the only quantifiable way to determine if Hasbro is making poor
product that people do not want is through sales.
Unfortunately for your ill-fated argument, sales numbers for
Transformers have been fantastic over the past few years. Yearly sales
totals show Transformers to be one of the most successful brands on the
market.
It looks like people and children are voting with their dollars.
And those dollars are voting for Hasbro.
Keyword there is "children". We diehard tf fans could stop buying
figures but it wont make that big of a dent in sales. Kids are always
going to want robot toys. And as long as parents will dish out the
money for the new transforming robot toy to shut little jimmy up sales
mean nothing.

Now, without referenceing my above argument (that would be too easy...)
I'm going to attack what I believe to be the root of your misguided
argument.
RiD, was the last line which had an overtly "Collector Look" to it.
Meaning that the toys were in large part meant to represent real life
vechiles.
What you and I are not mentioning here is the Alternator line. Which
has consistantly sold out. At any rate, that's a digression from my
main point, which is that you are unhappy that recent releases have
been geared towards both collectors AND children.
Seeing as how very little Transformers mechandise ever goes truely on
clearance or for that matter, on clearance at all. I'd have to say
that the past few years of Transformers have been overwhelming
successes.
No im not complaning that the new lines have been geared toward
collectors and children. As long as the products are good i dont care
who there are geared towards. And Alternators are not always sold out.
Evrey store i go to has and have had Alternators. Even Walmart. And
also i dont care if they "look Real" as long as they are made well then
im happy. My point was that the RID line was the last line other than
the classics that they put alot of effert into.

Essentially, your statement here is crap. If it's a matter of opinion
on your part, again, crap.
True enough there have been differences between the US and Japanese
releases, but in no possible world can you generalize the lot of toys
the way you did. Here is a concete to you Vector Prime and Voyager
Starscream from Cybertron were better than their US counterparts. In
the same breath, I can't begin to list the number of US releases which
have actually been MORE show accurate since the end of Armada.
To put another feather in Hasbro's cap, how many of the distinctly
Japanese releases have they worked to bring to us here? Like your BW
Prime and Megs reissues at less than half the cost of what people
imported them for?
Thank Hasbro for that.
My statement is not crap. I have be able to compare the GF line and the
Cyb line. And in my opinon the GF line looks and feels better than the
hasbro cybertron line. And show acuracy doesnt effect my reasons to buy
the toys.AS long as the figures are made well i dont care if they look
like the show. And why is it that the hasbro ones break more esaly than
the tarkara ones? And the Jap verson of the BW reissues were better in
japan. The box was better and Megs wasnt missing a piece to hold hi
mtogether. And if hasbro didnt already have the 10th ann. BW line out i
doubt we would have seen thoses figures here.

So? What are you some kind of Communist? You don't appreciate good
business sense? Would you rather they were forced into a merger to
save their corporation like Takara was?
Yes im a comunist. Long live stolen. No my point is that there is this
thing called a monopoly. The last time i checked tyou cant have thoses
here in the US. And my othert point is if Hasbro buys evrey one then
there wont be veriety in toys. Just like now. The only way to compare
tf figs is to use the hasbro and tarkara lines. We no longer have
kenner the ones who made the BW line so we cant have them make TF figs
again. In order to see if Hasbro is makeing good toys we need at least
two companies to campare it with. And seeing as how Hasbor has bought
out evrey toy company that would have made TF figures we wont get the
chance to compare.

Name 10 figures that have consistently poor paint jobs.
I dare you.
There used to be a time when Takara was king of paint detailing. Not
anymore. Releases like Cryoscourge, ...no wait, all of Cybertron had
great paint schemes. Perhaps if this were 4 or 5 years ago and we were
discussing Armada I might say, "yea, they could use some work.".
But it's not.
So I won't.
Lets see, seeing as how my Armada and Energon lines are in boxes in my
closet i cant name 10 figs but i can name a few from the more recent
lines Cyb Snarl, Cyb Crumplezone, cyb Red Alert, cyb overhaul, and most
of the minicon sets since armada. And you also basicly answered your
own question "There used to be a time when Takara was king of paint
detailing,Perhaps if this were 4 or 5 years ago and we were discussing
Armada I might say, "yea, they could use some work." SO i think thats
avout 10 figures dont you think?

Why don't you go back and read Skowl's excellent list of things Hasbro
has provided us. Then re-check your knee jerk reaction.
Time's up bub.
It was only cool to rag on Hasbro a few years ago.
They listened.
Didn't you get the memo?
Times up? I dont think so meatbag.
Alternators-Great concept but why are they so brittle? Evrey time i
transform one is feels like itll break. The line needs work.
Titaniums-Great they brought back diecast but the joints suck and som e
of the molds need alot of work. Great idea just didnt give R&D enough
time to work out all the kinks.
Classics- ALreay said that they are the best figures hasbro has made in
a while.
Unicron-Hasbro has had the idea for a unicron toy since the first move.
If unicron wasnt in the show do you think the figure would have come
out? Maybe it would have but we will never know. If they would have
waited amybe there wouldve been a better version. Perhaps one of the
first prototypes they had.
Fallen- The titanium line is mostly based around the WW saga. So they
looked throught the comics and picked a handfull of bots to make toys
out of. I wouldnt be suprised if they make all the WW guys in to
titanium toys. As youve said fallen is a bot that not evrey one knows
so how many really wanted him to be made. If he wasnt made would there
have been an uproar. I doubt it.
Combiners- They were in the show so they made the toys. And RID &
energon were from japan and what do they love in japan? Combining
robots. Thats why combiners came back. If hasbro were to make new
Stunticons and Terrorcons for the Classic line then yeah they listened
to use about combiners but untill then they didnt bring them back japan
did.
Excilian- Who wanted HS to look like Hot Rod? And how many times will
hasbor repaint the same bot. If you remeber HS looked like Rod in
armada towards the end of the show. SO hasbro decided well we need
another hotshot repaint so lets bring back the armada flame job. If you
look at the last waves of cybertron almost evrey toy got a repaint.
Swindle-same as above
Beachcomber-same as above. They like repaints.
Construction vehicles- Who in there right mind would want evrey
construction vehicel to look like the cunstructicons? Oh i want my
Cybertron landmine to look like scavenger. They cant combine to form
devastator but who cares they look and have the same names as them. Its
also another way to get more repaints out there.
Waspinartor- The decals on the 10th ann figs are the same size. They
use the same stamps on all the figures. Thats why the Pred deacal is
small on wasp. If they were to make more preds the decal would be the
same size.
Yes i would like to see someone else have a go with the TF line. Then
we would be able to see if hasbro is doing a good job or not. The last
few lines have made me want another company to make the toys. Hasbor
has somewhat redeemed themselves witht eh 20th ann prime and the
classics line. But untill i have the new movie figures in my hands i
will still think hasbro is lakeing with the figures. Now if they keep
going they way that they have with the classics line then this hole
argument will have been for nothing. As ive said the Classics line is
the best quality line to come from hasbro since RID. Hasbro started out
good but then went downhill. But if they keep doing the same thing they
are now then we will be seeing G1 quality figures again. I have G1
figures that have been through hell and back and look better than some
of my Cybertron figures that feel 3 feet off the shelf when i was
rearanging them.
And excuse my poor spelling im on vacation right now and had to type
this out on my PSPs web browser. It has no spellcheck and is a pain to
go back and edit.
