How does the dying work? It seems useful, but not a lot of people use it. Not very often, at least.

It works really well and has the same quality as injection molded plastic. You basically use RIT Synthetic Dye in a pot of boiling water. The color changes and darkens depending on how much dye you put in.

Is there any kind of plastic that you wouldn’t want to dye? (I.e., the process would harm the material)

The plastic on the Armada toys is of really good quality and really hard to dye without warping it. Other than that no.

Do you use any special activator in your dye bath? I found salt to be a miracle worker dyeing synthetic clothes and have heard some folks swear by vinegar.

Titans Return Hoist with Ramhorn (Reformatted)

I am a huge fan of the Armada version of Hoist; it is to date one of my top 5 favorite transformers. I was hoping to one day make a modern version of the figure. Seeing how characters like Hotshot and Red Alert evolved through the Unicron Trilogy I think this is believable. Enjoy!

I'm not one for painting my customs, it's too messy, and in the end painted figures do not mesh well on a collector's shelf. This was probably the easiest and cleanest figure I've dyed yet.

Hello there sir, I happened to revisit your -quite frankly inspirational- thread and I just felt that I must say that your customs are rather splendid. I wish that I were half as accomplished in my minor dabbling as you are in transforming (no pun intended) an entire figure!

Thank you for your kind words Yankee0! Customizing Transformers is a fun hobby and it's nice to see that you like my work. As far as your own "minor dabbling" - you'll get there. Yes, believe it or not, Scattor is going to be part of a combiner set. The base will be Sky Lynx and the set will include Combiner Wars Hound, my Streetwise custom, and a Tote custom. Thank you for appreciating my work.
