Missing Link Once Again Redefines Itself With C-14 Ironhide

Posted by Emerje May 12, 2026 at 4:31pm CDT 6,523 views
Originally Missing Link was a line of figures that looked vintage with modern articulation and sometimes cartoon decos. Then we got figures that should have been in the original '80s run but never made the cut. Mixed in there was also characters that didn't exist in G1, but would have been easy repaints at the time. Now with the new Ironhide reveal we're getting a figure that could have existed as an alternate reimagining of the figure we did get. Missing Link C-14 Ironhide is a case of "best of both worlds", a blend between the figure we got and how he looked in the cartoon. Much of the torso, big chromed crotch and leg details come directly from the original toy, all the way down to the face in his chest. Likewise the actual head, some of the arm details and feet come directly from the cartoon.

Some of the choices are interesting. He doesn't have a sled anymore, the roof of the van now sits on his back like a turtle shell, but it does look like it might be able to be removed at the unpinned hinge. That's not a listed feature so try that at your own risk. The backpack also acts as weapon storage, all of his parts can be tucked up under there. And while he can't take the stripped down form of the original figure it does have a compact "Respect Mode" that turns into a larger sort of mech for the included female Diaclone figure. Overall it's an interesting middle ground figure. He's expected to be out in December, Amazon Japan is listing him at 13,708 JPY or about $87 USD. It's only a matter of time until Ratchet is announced and probably some other repaints.

What do you think? Eager for something new in this line or would you have preferred something closer to the original? Let us know in the Seibertron Energon Pub. And thanks to Perceptor1996 and Sabrblade for first posting about this in the forums!

It will be freaking expensive, as expected, but I really want him and Ratchet.

This Ironhide is opening Pandora's box. And I can only hope for a kick-ass GUN Megatron with a bot mode that does not look like a mutated goblin.

If that does happen, expect no Hasbro-market retailers to ever carry it, forcing you to rely on Japanese import sites instead.

Paying for shipping and custom fees is a bother, but the base price is always much lower than the local geek shop. This make the total price barely more expensive, or even cheaper than the local store.
TlDr; Importing is not a problem for me.

In the past when we had reissues and the MPs stores just imported them themselves, often adding an orange plug to the gun. Of course that mean paying more, but it'll be a good option for some people.

Vehicle mode is great. Robot mode is …. Well…ugh.

Disappointed the bot mode deviates from the G1 toy?

I have always loved the original G1 Ironhide. The chair has never bothered me and I've always considered the mode with the sled to be the "full" robot mode as a curious kind of thing. It had oodles of play value.

Whilst I have ordered Ironhide to support the line, I don't think this is a very good entry into the range. Removing the sled entirely was a terrible idea for a start. I also think that some parts like the arms look like they belong on an entirely different toy from a different range. He is also very chunky for a "G1" toy - the likes of Sunstreaker, Sideswipe and even Hoist had a certain skinniness to them.

There are other reasons I don't like, but listing them all will take too long.

TLDR - They ruined the charm of the original toy to give us a totally generic looking Ironhide.

I like the new Ironhide but it doesn't do the G1 toy thing other than the vehicle mode. If they had found a clever way to do the g1 toy out of this with the sled, I'd be happier with it I think. This is a good toy, but it's not the g1 toy done as I was envisioning it for Missing Link. It needs the sled and the short stature. Maybe it somehow does that still and they just haven't shown it off yet. The fact that it oddly retains the original "face" sear gives me hope that there's a hidden mode in there somewhere.

This also bother be a bit. Especially at Commander price plus taxes and shipping, just to have basically more of the same.
I think space and $ will be the ultimate deciding factor for me to skip this release.

Is Takara softening us up for things to come in the ML line?
I, for one, want Megs to keep skip leg day.

No sled. [-(
Takara have, however, included a 'hidden' mode with Ironhide. A few conversion steps & a small scale TF bot such as a minibot can hitch a ride at the back of Ironhide's vehicle mode & 'man-handle' the turret.

.

Going off script...
What's the chance of Takara totally changing G1 Wheelie for the Missing Link line? I mean, things like giving him a head instead of a face, in line with the recent Deluxe Retro line.

What do you mean? All he needs is elbows and knees!

Exactly. That's my boy!

My concern is the precedence Takara have taken with ML Ironhide/Ratchet by giving them a head and also losing the sled.

Edit: I hope Takara keeps Wheelie's rub sign in the same location.

Questions I have for ML Ironhide:

Is the ML Ironhide the same height as the G1 toy? (excluding the head)

Did Takara give the co-pilot a name?

I believe the Ironhide is roughly around the size of the original when he was standing on the sled.

Takara are announcing a Decepticon soon. Theree is a teaser, but its not great. Just a Decepticon logo. Rumours which contained the one about a redesigned Ironhide said it was Soundwave, which whilst it will be cool, I am just hoping we get Megatron eventually.

As much as I like Soundwave, I hope it isn't him. We're kinda drowning in G1 Soundwaves since 2024 between Legacy, Studio Series, Dramatic Capture Masterpiece G, Blokees, G.I.Joe, Retro reissue, Reactivate, Lego, Robosen and some non-G1 versions, I think we're good for a little while. I'd rather they do the jets, start now because they're going to be doing them for years to come.
