So I ended up borrowing Dead Rising from a friend when I saw he had it.
I gotta say, I'm really glad I never bought this game.
The idea, the concept is great. Capcom's execution of the concept is flawed, very flawed.
Which really surprises me, they did such a good job on RE4, and yet Dead Rising....sucks.
There isn't a challenge to the game, but hardest part is putting up with all the annoyances left in.
They tried to go for a sand-box horror survival, but the most "survival" part of it is trying not to kill a escort when they randomly decide to walk right in front of your bullet, or whatever you're swinging.
This wouldn't be a problem if friendly-fire wasn't on. But in order to have friendly-fire constantly on, you need AI smart enough not to walk in front of the guy swinging a sledgehammer at a bunch of undead.
Level progression is very pointless, randomly getting either a skill, a stock slot, life, or whatever when you level is annoying. Makes the game seems pointless.
Having weapons break makes sense, but having certain weapons get knocked out of your hand hen a zombie so much as looks at you, is annoying.
I dunno, this is one of those games where the demo is so much better than the actual product.

My friend had this for 360 and loved it. I played it a little bit, didn't seem bad, but the graphics were definitely not Next Gen. Looked like something the PS2 could easily run if you ask me

Isn't the same true for many of their games?

Just because the PS2 could have run it graphically, doesn't mean it could handle so many entities on screen at once. (Which, as I've heard, is a lot)

That's too bad. I really wanted to try this (and Left 4 Dead), but I have neither an Xbox or a powerful enough PC to run either of these games.

It takes some getting used to, but it's a great game once you get into it. Rescuing people is a pain, but rational thinking isn't something you find a lot of in a zombie apocalypse. If you still need convincing, you can unlock Megaman's blaster.

Resurrecting this thread because I recently got a chance to play this game. I found it actually quite fun. As it's been said, you have to juggle rescuing with keeping up with the cases (if you want to) and then just bashing up a lot of zombies. The only downside is some of the game's bosses are easily confused. For instance, when you fight that woman on the motorcycle (Isabella?), just stand on the debris up against the wall and all she'll do is drive around. Makes it easy to pick her off. Sure, she'll get a shot off every once in a while, but if you're better than I am, you should have absolutely no trouble. With another, if you end up in a particular position, the guy jsut runs around in circles shooting at the wall.
Other than that (and the fact that you can survive an astounding amount of bullet and knife wounds), the game is fine.
