Metallica Thread? YES PLEASE!
I'm just saying.
Sort of self explanatory.
Oh, a few notes about my hardcore fandom:
-Cliff Burton is God. Period.
-Jason Newsted sucks. Period.
-I like St. Anger. Really.
-Dave Mustaine didn't happen. Period.
Just so you know.
Get to the Metal!

Okay, we agree on three things. I liked Jason. Load and ReLoad are the albums that introduced me to Metalica, so they still hold a special place in my collection. That said, I also love Death Magnetic, even got the vinyl just to compare to the cd (it is muddier than the vinyl, but the difference is less noticeable after ripping it to my player)

Three out of ofur ain't bad. you're forgiven.
I'm not saying he's a terrible player, he just sucks, if you know what I mean.
Master introduced me to Metallica, but the first time I heard it, I HATED it.
How things change...
I have the Kill 'Em All vinyl, by the way, but genius me bought the re-issue...

I'm kinda offended that there needs to be a thread for this. It's like common knowledge that... Metallica is one of the best bands ever, period. No discussion needed.

Re: Metallica Thread? YES PLEASE!
I beg to differ: Jason Newsted, technically, is miles-better than Clif ever was. Listen to some old Flotsam and Jetsam--the only decent thing in those songs is his bass work. (And look at what happened to F&J after he left--crash and burn!) Burton was competent, nothing more. Now, we can argue that since joining Metallica, Jason hasn't really brought the same power, but...that's not the same as saying he *sucks* as a bassist. He's quite good on a technical, studio-album level. I've not been impressed with him live, but I never saw Burton live, either so I really can't compare.
Mind you, I'm old-school (comes with being old): I own an original of Ride the Lightning, which is and will always be, in my mind, the best Metallica album ever. Though Garage Days is a close second...tied with Puppets, I think. Load and Reload turned me the hell off Metallica (*cough cough**sellouts*) as any time a metal band does power ballads, I'm OUT. Death Magnetic has failed to impress. (And, the image on the CD cover looks a bit too much like lady-parts to me).
I LIKE Mustaine, but he was an awful fit for Metallica, I admit.
HK and let the hate begin....

Even if that was true, it's only because he wasn't murdered at age 24 and uses a pick.
Any cut rate guitarist can use a pick and become an acceptable bassist.
The only real pick bassist I like is Justin Chancellor.
Jason did two things right:
-Blackened
-Quitting
Luckily, Rob (who is, unfortunately, a better player than Cliff in most respects) came along and actually added some serious talent to the band. When he played Orion it only proved he was meant to be there, not Jason.
That's just me.

I wouldn't call them sellouts either.
They might have lost their way a little but Load, ReLoad, etc. are all still good/great music and Metallica regardless.
My favrotie album is Kill 'Em All, but the best, per say, is Master.

IMO, he was.
That bus driver got off way too easy.
It's obvious he knows what he did, or he wouldn't be so adamant in defending himself, after all, if he were innocent, there wouldn't be an issue.
Regardless, fans would still hate him.

So I;ve been gone for a while and was hell-bent on finding a Hellkitty post to make my re-enterance with, and am stunned for some reason to find it here, and to see some of the things it says.
For starters, while Cliff was the best bassist in Thrash metal, Jason was/is darned good, but he wasn't better than Cliff. Oh Hellkitty, I've always thought you pretty intelligent....

As for Death MAgnetic, thanks, I'll never look at the cover in the same way again, but I really really like it. Load/Re/St, Anger were just crap to me, but DM brought them back to relevancy in my mind. But, I can see how people might not like it, in honesty and fairness.
Dave Mustaine, despite piss-poor Megadeth outings of late, is one of the greatest as well, but I do sort of agree that he was the wrong guy for Metallica. At that time at least he was super self destructive, and that is not ever really a good piece to any puzzle.
By and large, the first four albums are essentially the best first four albums by near to any band. After that, eh. Everyone loves the Black album, and the more they protest the more it proves their love for it. Even us Black metal guys love that record.

Megadeth>Metallica
Misfits>Metallica
Metallica wouldn't have gone anywhere without Dave's work in the beginning.
Metallica wouldn't have gone anywhere without ripping off the Misfits.
BUT!
Seek & Destroy is one of the greatest songs of all time.
I can't stand even coming in contact with their other music. Every time I turn on the music all I hear is Nickelback and Metallica and Green Day. When I worked nights, I literally heard Metallica 8 times in 7 hours. I heard Nine Inch Nails 3 times, Nickelback 7 times, and Green Day an impressive 10 times.
Not exactly good company there...commercial rock!! WOO

I will agree that Cliff is the god. But I like Metallica also. One of my all time favorites. Next to Nirvana.

No, they are both quite good. I still love the video for 'Hero of the Day', and I can sing along with every song on Load.

My sister was a huge Metallica fan back when we were in high school. She used to play Metallica CDs in her room all the time.

Claiming Fox News has real journalists is like claiming Twilight has real vampires, it's just illogical.

Saw Metallica twice in concert - two of the best concerts I've ever seen. First one was for Black, the second they opened for Guns and Roses (who sucked in concert). Loved them from the beginning - my mom thought I was listening to devil music and that I was being brainwashed into being a devil worshipper. Good times!

I know! It IS funny! I think it was just too loud for her - that and she listened too much to Tipper Gore and her rediculous rhetoric. I think she's over it all now - I never did become a full fledged devil worshipper.

They touch on the tipper gore censoring metal thing in Metal A Headbangers Journey documentary, very interesting. Shes a douche.
