I finally made the time to put install the upgrade kit, here are my thoughts:
As others have said, you ABSOLUTELY need to give yourself sufficient time to install everything. The hour estimation is not an exaggeration.
The new neck piece makes such a difference on this guy. It not only allows for the ability to turn the neck 360 degrees, but you can also play around with a neck tilt as the replacement piece isn't completely deep enough to sit flush against the front and back of the neck slot.
I wish the claws would have been created with a mushroom peg to connect to the wrist. I don't like how they can just slide off easily. If he's only being posed, they sit on firmly. But when you're turning or otherwise messing with the figure, it's annoying to have to keep them in. And it makes me worry about what will happen if you're putting a weapon or other figure in his grasp.
I'm happy with my purchase, this is a big improvement. Can only wonder when the next upgrade set will be announced.

And set 2 is up for preorder at
BBTS for $44.99 and estimated to arrive 3rd Quarter 2015:
Includes:
2x chrome leg shields
2x chest armors
I really hope this isn't the final price. Buying the 1st kit was a little tough to swallow, but now I've got a shameful feeling. I'd rather use the money for something else, especially knowing that there are 3 more kits planned with prices (and contents) as yet unknown.

They lied when they said the claws/neck set was going to be the highest price due to the pieces being the largest. I reluctantly pre-ordered because Im already in it so what the hell...

I don't have the first set yet (44.99? Ha! This WILL go on sale) - but that seems to be the only really necessary set. The chest armor is cool, but the leg plating seems unnecessary.
I'm confident we'll see BBTS bundling all these sets down the line.
Also, c'mon Headrobots - I'm still 100% for the Ronin set!!!

I would love that too! The slim hope for that set is why I haven't sold my ROTF Mindwipe yet.

Has anyone tried this on a basic energon scorponok? I can handle repainting the bot (or claws... yeah claws will be easier), and this + PE Death Stalker is a much cheaper alternative than coughing up $200+ for a BC Scorponok.

Same mold, same thing. If you like painting go for it. You also are going to have to buy a vintage zarak for the head but it wont have funpubs remolded classics style face.

Crazy question, but what did you do with your original neck mount? I'd be interested in looking at it to see if it's possible to turn a normal energon scorponok into a headmaster if you aren't using it!

Cant sell the original neck piece because I want to retain the value of my set. I would recommend talking to one of those shapeways designers and see if they can render one. I can provide pictures if you would like.

I feel like that would actually be a decent seller, I would probably grab a neck mount and a headmaster for my energon scorps...
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

I've gone that route without much luck. If anyone here has an original neck piece and doesn't mind taking some photos and measurements of it, I don't think it'd be too hard to make one on shapeways.

I'm definitely getting the claws, but I'm also definitely waiting for a sale. Once they drop to $30-$35, I'm buying.

I'm in the same boat. I like all the upgrades planned so far for this by HR but I can't justify the price they are asking for them.

This thread has actually inspired me, I've been tinkering around with 3d modeling all day and have a junk energon scorponok coming in the mail. I'll disassemble it once it comes in and get to work. Any high res pics of the instructions for this kit would be greatly appreciated, or photos of either the updated or original FP neck mount as well.

Much appreciated X! Believe it or not, I found a broken scorponok at a thrift store today and have a working model that I'll try to get printed in the next few weeks
. You're right, $45 won't break the bank, but I think that that there are fans out there who don't want the claws, but want the option to make this a headmaster. I'm actually tinkering with making an adapter for the original scorponok head as well.

Necro Bump!
Just ordered set one with the claws. BBTS had it discounted to $24 and I bit. It was low stock; I ordered yesterday and it's out of stock now.
