my biggest beef with One More Day(other than I figured this was nearly exactly how he'd get is identity back after civil war #2) is that Peter actually went through with the deal. I totally see MJ doing that.. she would give up everything to see Peter happy. Peter would never be able to do that to MJ though. It was a completely out of character move. oh well, this will all be reversed when Jean Grey comes back from the dead.

And since Pete's been the big shot of the marvel universe for years, guest starring in everybody's books, how is this going to screw up the entire universe?
Watch, somehow Peter marrying MJ will destroy Logan's revealed backstory. lol.

It was a forced evolution by "The Queen" during the time of Disassembled.
So obviously those events never occurred. Does that mean Peter never became an Avenger? Well his identity is a secret so he obviously never became Stark's lapdog.
Which means that the new Captain America next month will be ... Steve Rogers?
I also find it interesting that a lot of people are willing to give up on regular Spidey in favour of Ultimate Spider-Man. USM is really Peter back as a teenager, in his single days, which is essentially the sort of stories JQ wanted to tell again.

I think people like Ultimate Spider-Man because it created a new revamped continuity for Spider-Man in which he was young and single while the regular titles had the evolution of the hero. Wiping out continuity like this is a poor decision, if they wanted to rewrite history and relaunch titles they should have had Marvel's version of Crisis. I am not in favor of the change but what does it matter? I stopped buying regular Spidey during JMS's run (SIns of the Past was an abomination). So much for dead means dead Joe. This just shows how important Jemas was to Marvel IMHO.

In a recent JoeQ interview, Joe claims that JMS didn't disagree the outcome of the story... just how it would be told. I guess that makes sense: if JMS was adamant about keeping the Spidey marriage he wouldn't have bothered writing it at all.
In fact, JMS wanted the kids in Sin's Past to be Peter's. But JoeQ over-ruled that decision and made them Osborn's kids.

Even Reeds should be able to create some form of life support for her.
Exactly what I was thinking.

They retconned about 50-60 years worth of Superman, but that was only because they had made him too powerful, and it was getting very hard to keep a story going for more than two pages without using Kryptonite.

finally read the last OMD and i am absolutely confused. is this like the steve ditko/JR days again (like back to the future) or is he young in present time (like ultimate spidey)? (does that make sense?) like i said, i'm sticking to USM.

Thanks, Tweezy

Well seems JMS is trying to distance himself form OMD and half of the stuff he wrote. Personally I don't like JMS but I'll believe him before Joe Q. JMS obviosuly knew all the suggestions JOE Q made were bad ideas but his hands were tied.

Seems Joe thinks Magic makes everything change without explanation. Sorry Joe but you have to explain it. You made the mess now you must answer for it. I think someone need to give that guy a book on "The Nono's of Fiction Writting," or at least a trip to a Special Ed Center.
Joes got some MAJOR damage control to do now.
He'll make it worse for himself if he fires JMS.

You know, for all of Mr. Q's gripes about bringing back the status quo of single Pete, he seems to not realize that most of the people who remember Peter like that are in their 30's and 40's and have moved on from comics. If there was any time to have erased the marraige it would have been just after they tied the not.
I really don't understand how marraige ages the character, it's not like he has a teenage grandson, lots of young people get married. Spiderman hasn't been the young kid superhero for a long time. For most of the 70's on, he was the cool older brother we all wanted, now he's a loser in late 20's living with his aunt. What next Marvel, is he going to get a job at Burger King and collect comics?

The old age question, if its not broken why fix it? This kills any desire to read Amazing Spider-man or get back into it again.

It's not the same thing. USM is a different continuity, different universe, that Peter isn't being regressed, because he hasn't grown up yet.

Re: I'm officially done with Marvel. (Spidey OMD-spoilers)
OMD irks me to no end. Actually, Quesada does. He blames all of the trouble with Spidey on the marriage, which is idiotic. Being married does not mean you're old, have no problems, are boring, etc. He feels that people can't relate to Peter if he's married to MJ.
I started reading Spider-Man in 1983, when I was 10. At that point, Peter was:
1. A grad student.
2. A freelance photographer.
3. A teaching assistant.
4. In his twenties.
5. Dating the Black Cat.
6. A superhero.
Now, I personally could relate to none of that. Still, I made my monthly trek to the News 'n Novelty and paid my $0.63 every month for Amazing Spider-Man. And I was, I think, a freshman in high school (who couldn't get a date) when Peter and MJ married. Did that ruin the books for me? No! I enjoyed it even more. I can't understand why Joephisto says it limits the stories they can tell. Any characteristic will limit the stories in some manner, just as it will open up other possibilities.
What I can't relate to, however, is a hero who makes a deal with the devil for selfish, or really, for any reason. He couldn't deal with the fact that May was dying because he was stupid enough to reveal his id, so he gave up his wife and unborn daughter to save woman who will probably die soon anyway?! Isn't she like a hundred, and always on the verge of a heart attack?
And no way would Peter ever reveal his id on national tv anyway. He used to cover his face so the FF wouldn't get a glimpse of it, he was so paranoid. He knew what would happen. But now it's obvious why he did it. They were using it to set up OMD, so they could get rid of the marriage, continuity and characterization be damned.
This isn't about making Spider-Man more relatable. Have sales really suffered under the marriage? Isn't Spider-Man still one of Marvel's top sellers? This is about Joephisto getting back the Spider-Man he grew up with and prefers. "It's magic!" he says. Bah.
I'm done with new Spider-Man books, and I'm trying to convince myself to drop all the Marvel stuff I buy. This has really disgusted me. I just can't read new Spidey stuff (even if I wanted to, without the marriage, which I don't) knowing that Peter made a deal with the devil. Hard to admire or look up to a 'hero' who would do that.

Yes I know that, thanks for misinterpretting me.
My point is, USM has Peter single dealing with life as a teenager dealing with issues like dating and juggling his normal life with his super hero life.
What they've done in the regular titles is take him back to being single and having to deal with issues like dating and juggling his normal life with his super hero life.
To me the only difference between the titles is the age. And if that's the case, they should have just left the regular run alone and let USM tell the tales of singledom.

I did misinterpret you. I apologize. No need to get snarky.
I actually agree with your post. All they're doing now, or at least all it sounds like they're going to do, is retread old ground in the main books. Since they do have USM to do this in, what is the point? I don't get it.
And I don't know the sales figures on Amazing Spider-Man, but wasn't it already one of Marvel's highest-selling books? So other than Joephisto's feelings, what was the marriage hurting? Do they really believe that new readers will flock to the book now that Peter is 'officially' single again?

Yeah but when DC did that retconning they retconed their whole Universe.Every character got retconed.
Marvel should have done the same.

Well after reading "Brand New Day" I gotta say how impressed I am.
Impressed that they can really truly **** up Spider-Man like they have.
Sure, I don't like change. And maybe that's where some of my dislike of this is stemming from. But come on, how **** stupid do those idiots at Marvel expect the readers to be to simply accept that "people forgot who Spider-Man was when he unmasked".
"They just forgot". That's the way they're spinning the unmasking so as to ensure the events of Civil War still went the way they did. "Everyone forgot".
What a load of horse crap. How can Marvel insult their readers intelligence like that?

Re: I'm officially done with Marvel. (Spidey OMD-spoilers)
it's not so much the writters as much as their nazi-type EIC JQ. JMS wanted nothing to do with the last half of OMD and some of his ideas for past storylines seemed far more logical than what JQ came up with. This travesty is his agenda, not Marvels. Joe thinks the fans are just objects that are easily replacable, not realising that the fan are what keep the comic going. So whats he been doing, getting rid of everyhitng they like about spidey to toss them out and replace them with a new target demographic. And what has he done? (made the symbiot change hosts and screwing up Scorpion in the process, the unmasking, ruined Gwen's char with the goblin kids, House of M, SPidey's death and rebirth, the unmasking, OMD, and Harry's ressurection wiht little explanation. Yes he has bosses but I don't think his bosses fully understand what he was going for and what a mistake it is.
Some of those who hate OMD yet stick around ebcaus eit's PSidey (the weak-willed individuals who are doing/thinking what Joe Q wants, not saying anyone here is) think this is a breath off resh air. It's never fresh when the air's been tainted. Sure the writting may be better but this could've easily been done without OMD and sacrificing the marriage.

When I look at Joe Q's statements I suddenly think about those super-hardcore geewunners, who always bitch and moan about "It's not true to the original!" "The oldest won was the best, all of the new stuff is blasphemy." Granted, most would misspell those senteces and mostly scream their heads off in leet between F bombs, but you get my point, just because you think the original was the greatest thing in the world, simply because you remember it that way as a kid, it turns out not to be the case.

Joe says he wants to return Spider-Man to his roots. Well, that's not exactly true. He's reset Peter basically into the late seventies/early eighties, not the early sixties. What do you want to bet that's the Spidey he grew up reading?
I'm sorry, fans haven't been clamoring for the marriage to end. There are some who don't like it, but it's not like there's been this groundswell of hatred for. Except from Joe. He's reset it to the way he wants it, nothing more.

And I'm waiting for the day that Peter remembers what he did.
I guess my biggest concern now is that I can't afford it three times a month. I guess I'll have to put Amazing on the back burner for now until I find a job.

SC this is what he wants you to do. Why? He thinks of Spidey-fans as brainless idiots all together hat fear change bad or good and expects them to buy whatever crap he puts out. The onyl fan services he gives are ot those who agree with him. Spidey-fans infact like good change. This is not good change. This change is a lie, looks good but it's tainted.
Doesn't matter if the writting's good, it is the product of something that is/was against Spidey's principles and character. Peter was taught about power and responsibilty and he's had some tough lessons along the way. These are things that were ignored by Joe Q to satisfy his own agenda. The Peter we all know would never make a deal with the devil. He would'v edone the right thing and accepted he made the mistake of unmasking and let May go with what dignity she had left. She could've been with Uncle Ben and been happy. It was all Joe Q taking Peter out of character to get what he perosnally wanted, a personal agenda-driven dillusion. Peter learned the consequences of his enemies learning his identity when Gwen died, yet Joe Q ignored this. The fact was the Peter we knew would've known better than to unmask on national TV, even with the promises made by Stark. Plus Stark was never forcing him to do it, only register.
The writting for BND could've been done without sacrificing the marriage. Peter could've accepted what happened said his farewells and looked towards the future with MJ. What some call fresh air in that comic is air that is polluted yet looks clear.
If you want these so bad, may I make a suggestion? Wait until the marriage has been restored and then buy the TPB after everything has been fixed! This will avoid you having to worry about buying them now, add to the boycott, save your money and later when you have a job you can still get them.
