So, the show "Community" did an episode based on G.I.Joe. And that was largely due to SCUD creator and Community director Rob Schrab (who voiced Cobra Commander in the episode). He's a big Joe fan and, if you're aware, they got a few of the original voice talent (Flint, Duke, and Scarlett, as I recall) and had Hasbro sign off on the episode. It was the character Jeff hallucinating in a coma on his 40th birthday.
"Community" creator (and "Rick and Morty" co-creator) Dan Harmon originally conceived of the episode as a Transformers episode. He's a big TF fan. Plugs "Earth Wars" all the time.
And I keep thinking of what that episode would have been as a Transformers episode.
The thing that keeps jumping out to me is how the characters on the show kind of line up with the S3 Transformers cast.
Jeff = Rodimus
Abed = Wreck-Gar
Buzz/Pierce = Kup
It gets a bit trickier with the others but I could see Annie as Arcee, John Oliver as Perceptor, Troy as Blurr, Shirley as Blaster.
I could see either Mega/Galvadean or Stardean with Galva/Megachang.
I figure the arc of the episode would have been Jeffimus Prime feeling abandoned by Optimus. And probably would have had a friendly jab at Michael Bay before acknowledging that his films are made for a different audience.
I think it's a shame in some ways they didn't do the TF version because the Joe episode had a lukewarm reception whereas I figure TF Wiki and TF fandom would have kept making references to the episode for years, turning it into a fandom classic.
