I almost never use a cookbook, I have mad skillzzzzzzzzzzz!!
I have that one though. It's O.K.
If you use a cookbook you really can't mess anything up.

Can't go wrong with cookbooks... Except when what you cook looks nothing like the picture in the book...
I learnt how to cook the hard way when I was around 14 I think.. My parents would frequently travel to the othe side of Malaysia and leave me alone with the dogs... I learnt by trial and error.. Needless to say my first few attempts at cooking were horrible.. I've gotten better now though..

Have we had one of those since the last Board-Wipe?

Wow, it's so easy to completely misinterperet that anecdote.

Do you have a story to start it off? Ok I'll go.
No cookbook required for this one.
So I'm working in a restaurant and there's this kid I'm working with who is paying top dollar at Johnson-Wales. It's REALLY slow so I start throwing stuff in the deep fryer. Raw eggs, cucumbers, cheese, it was about 27 different things.
This kid couldn't believe what I was doing but everybody
was having a good time. I take it out and arrange it as
nice as I could on a plate. I even added a morning garnish
of orange slice and strawberry.
So we're trying to get someone to sample this new cuisine.
No takers. Now I'm off the hook as the guinea pig as I've
paid my nasty food eating dues and the waitresses aren't
gonna do it. Only one left is this kid. After some goading
(and a $12.00 bribe) he decides he will eat some. Only now
instead of eating it, I tell him so he could taste all
the flavors this dish has to offer he must drink a glass of it. Into the blender it goes. He takes one giant chug,
waits about 3 seconds and it comes back up.
If only I could describe the (un)pleasant aroma
I only hope he took this recipe back to school with him
and showed everyone what he is made of.

Kamjiin begs me to make my personal recipe meatloaf. Then he eats the whole thing in one night.
I would think being able to make meatloaf good is the sign of a good cook.
I have joy of cooking along with about 50 other cook books.
My worst cookbook experience was Orange Chicken...god it was nasty. So sometimes cook books do have bad recipes in them.

My worst had to be "Hanburgers" from the Star Wars Cookbook. In retrospect, I don't see how that could possibly have worked.

I have been cooking so long that I hardly ever use a cookbook anymore. Most times I can just guess it and it comes out great.
Years ago when I was young (my 15 year old was a baby) I made some chili dish with a cornbread top. I was out of baking powder so I decided that baking soda would work just as nice. It smelled delicious it tasted horrible. Never substitute baking soda for baking powder.

I like The Joy of Cooking because so far it has made me look like a pro. I'm a good cook, but I'm not that good at basic stuff. Recently I cooked the 40 garlic clove chicken. It came out so good my wife and I ate the whole chiken in one night. It was probably the juiciest chicken I ever had. Made me wonder if anyone else has ahd a similar experience.

I think I just heard the simultanious clicking of 176 bathroom door locks as the Seibertron OMG-a-girl-on-the-message-board-fanboys just disappeared from reality with a box of tissues.

Due to the urging of my little boy, after a trip to the library, we made Greedo's Burritos one night. Tasty.

I'm lucky to have a friend that loves to cook and bake, and will bring me whatever I want. She brought me an entire tupperware bowl of chicken and dumplings. Mmmm.....
My favorite thing to cook myself has to be my award winning Italian chicken. It requires Italian dressing and chicken.
Throw it in a pan and dine in heaven.
I am interested in this Star Wars cookbook. Perhaps cooking would suck less if I could associate it with aliens...

Unfortunately, yes. There is also Boba Fett-uccine, Princess Leia Danish Dos, Sandtrooper Sandies, Tusken Raider Taters, Bossk Brownies, amoung other family holiday favorites.

Not sure I'd want those they'd either taste like sweaty rubber and leather, or choke you to death.
