They wouldn't go to all that trouble if they weren't planning some in house series and/or movie development. This should be interesting to see the results.

Well we can only hope that this turns out well for all concerned, since the last DC in house film was catwomen staring halle berry we all remember what a craptastic film that was,

I dont think that was in house. DC has never done an in house project they have always outsourced to WB since Time Warner owns both. I could be wrong though.

Hopefully this move creates an environment where future DC movie and other media will be more in the vein of Batman Begins and TDK than Catwoman, Superman Returns, and The Watchmen.

Hey, I enjoyed Superman Returns and The Watchmen, but that's neither here nor there.
If this is a product of the new DC company, then I whole-heartedly support it.

I enjoyed Superman Returns too, it's just that it missed some marks for the character and the movie ended up being one big homage to the Richard Donner. A lot of the movie lacked "heart" for me because it was a caricature of the 1978 movie. I think Bryan Singer should have totally gone in his own direction, which might have been worse but I couldn't fault him for doing his own thing with the character.
Catwoman was just way off base.
The Watchmen movie totally missed a major point of the story(fear of nuclear war). However, The Watchmen is a huge project to undertake so what Zack Snyder got right was done well and I think he achieved a lot by simply making an adaptation of The Watchmen that I think is definitely watchable. It wasn't an absolute failure but it just doesn't do justice to the series that, to be honest, is truly un-adaptable due to the integral nature of the comic art. Dave Gibbons' work on methods and concepts such as the deliberate structure of his panel arrangement are things you can't appreciate outside of a comic book format. Half the narration and subtext of the story comes from how the visuals are composed such as in Chapter V "Fearful Symmetry". Now if someone hasn't read the source material, they're going to be fine with the film adaptation but they won't realize how much they're missing because of what the comic does on a visual level. Unlike 99% of comic art, The Watchmen's art is actually vital to the experience.

Unfortunately, the article's title is misleading. BB getting its own comic mini-series is cool, though I wonder why Dan DiDio specifically said "Terry McGinnis mini-series". I would prefer another DCAU film feature for Batman Begins, though. I love BB because it was so different than the traditional Batman but entertained me just as much. I also loved how JLU tied up BB. "Epilogue" was such a great episode and tied JLU to BB in some neat ways.
