So the actual theme this year is any prior Transformers line with "Machine" in the name.

Well, at least the theme isn't technically Beast Machines, and I'm all for rehabilitating its few decent characters by working them into other areas; Strika's brief but awesome turn in Animated reaffirmed her as the first and best choice for this treatment.

You know, her lack of faction symbols raises an interesting question. Before becoming a Vehicon General in Beast Machines, she was one of the greatest generals of all time next to Obsidian, with her prime directive being the protection of Cybertron. Would that make actually Machine Wars Strika an Autobot, despite her Animated incarnation being a Decepticon? :-?

More than likely, especially considering that this is Wings Universe, which retconned this pink bot into being pre-G1 Strika:

Well, well! This is a most excellent surprise. Adding another fembot is always good in my eyes. And I actually like the choice of mold used for this, as Strika has always been a bit bulky.

Alos, judging just from the comments above, it seems that this is the first Botcon toy this year that's gotten majority positive reaction.

I almost bit my tongue when I wanted to say we actually may not get a Troop Builder set this year. I looked over the lists and we had one since 2009:

2009: Sweeps
2010: Sharkticons
2011: Autotroopers
2012: The Borg SG Junkions

Megaplex seems the ideal choice, with one acting like the General much like the Vehicon Generals. But that's for another thread.

2005 had the Virulent Clones as well.

2006's Laserbeak and Buzzsaw weren't troop builders, but they sorta count as being similar what with their sharing the same mold and such.

It has been said that this year's botcon set is going to be expanding upon the Machine Wars line, creating new MW versions of non-MW characters. This is Strika in her MW body just as any of the original 12 (barring Hubcap and Megaplex) were the G1 characters in their MW bodies.

That's if they do those two, that is. Not every old MW figure will get an update, and Strika shows that they're looking to do new characters as well.

I really hope some version of this makes it to retail. Strika was the best thing about Beast Machines and one of the only good things from Animated, and she needs more than just the Universe Nemesis Strika that adorns my shelf right now.

Those things are okay, but that's about it. They seem like a step (or five) backwards to me after years of collecting toys that transform from a robot (like those things) to a vehicle of some kind
