I am a nerd anyway, I study philosophy and religion at university. Even if I threw my lot in with the 'jocks', I'll still be a nerd, because I like studying my courses, writing fanfiction, and Magic the Gathering cards.
Thankfully, growing up in Asian society, there's never been this kind of distinction or stigma, so I couldn't care less of what Westerners think of me. I do sports anyways so I'm not unfit.

Im a westerner and I do not consider the above nerdy I think that is somewhat of an unfair statement... If you get a degree in any of those subjects that makes you smart not nerdy

I don't consider collecting TF's nerdy. Just about everyone I know either thinks it's cool or are simply amazed (size of collection). I'm a successful administrative professional. I am reasonably fit with a very hot wife and two great looking boys. Yet I collect TF's. TF's and being a nerd do not automatically go hand in hand.
Collection Count: Just enough G1 & Classics to make this look good!

Nope.
However, collecting Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy or Dr Who stuff is nerdy as heck!
What I find interesting is that if you collect Transformers, or any of the previous lines I mentioned then you are often considered a nerd, yet if you buy and display Wrestling toys you dont... go figure.

We are considered nerdy because of that "Aw crud..." feeling we get when we're so excited to find one figure on Target's barren shelves and its the one you've been searching for, at regular retail price mind you, and you happily stroll up to the register just to see that the cashier is a smokin' hot redhead.

Maybe not.
But you are on a forum about kids' toys.
That's gotta put you in the minority somewhere.
But I don't see nerdiness as bad. Nerdiness is simply dedication. Dedication is gooood.

My wife says it's nerdy, and that really felt insulting...other people who have seen my collection are like "what...are...you...doing?" but I fail to give a **** what they think. My wife tho...gonna have to turn her around...

If it bothers you that much, you have the wrong hobby. But you can successfully throw them off their guard by asking for a gift receipt...

I have no problem buying figures, even if the cashier was an old woman or a cute girl (especially if she was a cute girl). Maybe it comes with age, since I'm already in my late twenties, I don't have to prove to anyone if I'm cool or not.

Our society's diversity in character is every bit on par with others'. May not be as popular, or athletic, or cool to others as 1 may perceive us 'nerds'/ weirdo, which i've been referred to sometimes...but without the yin, yang won't be as watever da heck i'm trying2say. Besides, the stereotype will continue, just like life. Let's accept it, and let others who do not fully have d ability or interest to comprehend our hobby, yet perceives it in a way to them catergorizes our people. It's not uncommon, just how we roll. Their opinions, our interest.

I'm not ashamed to have all of the G1 TF Robot Heroes, a couple of GI Joes, a lava lamp, a buddha status, and a Darth Vader voice changer helmet all arranged about my cube. Hey, that's me...take it or leave it.
Granted, it does help that I work in the IT field, so the whole building is a bit geeky to start with. I can't tell you how many people stop by my desk at work and talk to me about any or all of the stuff I have on display.
Everyone has something that they do that they would be hesitant to share with others. If the worst thing on my list is collecting TFs then I'm better off than a lot of people.

I think it's undeniable that collecting toys period is nerdy. However, whether one hobby is nerdy or not is irrelevant; what matters is how you carry yourself while going through with your hobbies.
I have a ridiculously large amount of hobbies, spanning from TFs, to comic books, to video games, to music, to headphones, and I'm not ashamed by any of that. I'm living a life many would consider "cool", and if people ask me about my hobbies or whatever, I proudly tell them what I'm into. If they don't like it, whatever, big deal.

Yes, in as much as terms like Nerd and Geek have relevance today.
I've long since come to accept that I'm a nerd and have stopped caring. I collect Transformers, Comic Books, Star Wars, Miniatures, have built my own computer, play mad amounts of video games and have a enduring hatred of sports.
And I have fun doing it. I'm not going to pretend to not like what I like just because of what other people think. I'm not violating any of my personal principle and I'm doing things that I enjoy. I'm also under no obligation to prove myself to or impress anyone.
