I have no idea who Dr. Manhattan is, but I absolutely hat Fred. So I'd hope that guy would slaughter Fred.

A spear? You haven't even read or seen Watchmen, have you? Manhattan can become incorporeal at will, and he'd have turned Fred into a large red stain on the wall before Fred could maneuver into striking distance.
