I finished Kakuranger a while back. That was a great series.
I recently finished Ohranger. It was not a great series, but the mecha were cool. I think they missed a huge opportunity with Ohranger Robot. Each helmet should have given the robot a unique finishing move, but since the show got lazy with individual character development and only gave a power-up episode to three individual Ohrangers I'm not surprised. I am disappointed.
While I wait to hopefully view Carranger as a I want to continue viewing the shows Saban based Power Rangers on in order I decided to start watching Jetman. I love it. I'm a little more than half way through and I really enjoy the story and themes. I think in the end I will rank it higher than Kakuranger and Dairanger in what I consider the more classic series. I find it hard to compare these with Goseiger, Gokaiger and the most recent three series as they are so different in style.
After seeing some reviews by Emgo I will definitely go back and watch Gobusters, but I'm not sure when. I kinda of want to give more of the older series a shot like Jetman that Gokaiger heavily relied on in a lot of their fights. With that in mind I'm thinking of watching Liveman next.
I also decided to give Kamen Rider a try with Ghost because I am very interested in the concept. So far I am greatly enjoying it. I don't know if I will go back and watch previous series, though there is something about Gaim that makes me think I'll give that a try. Maybe Drive, too.

Jetman's a really popular one. Some regard it as the best Super Sentai series of all.Bradimus wrote:While I wait to hopefully view Carranger as a I want to continue viewing the shows Saban based Power Rangers on in order I decided to start watching Jetman. If you like old-school Sentai you'll like old-school Rider. Kuuga is my favorite. I recommend it.

Re: Seiberton Henshin! Tokusatsu Discussion Thread
Last week i finished watching Ohranger.
The main characters were likable but a bit bland, and often could easily be fooled by the enemy instead of using their brains for once.
The mecha were great, but the series has a lot of instances where things just suddenly appear without any lead-up in the story, such as giant roller, ohre bazooka, the blocken robo's, ohblocker's combination with kig pyramidder and tackleboy. In most series they will make mention of something being in the works, like a new mecha or weapon that's shown earlier in an episode, or its' creation is integral to the episode. In ohranger, they just appear suddenly and i'm left wondering where the hell that came from without any advance warning.
Not a fan of how the ohrangers are chummy with every kid in town or have a special bond with some, since they're all interchangeable. Where did Mikio and his family suddenly come from, should i remember them from an earlier episode? Or that kid who unlocks gunmajin, has he been seen before?
I quite liked the enemy faction in this series, Baranoia is a genuine threat to the earth, with several instances of the population of japan being in mortal danger or a massive invasion going on in the early and late parts of the series, and their royal family dynamic is fun to watch.

That's because it was only finished recently.
For my part I've been archiving all the toku I can get my hands on, though I haven't had time to actually WATCH much lately.

Gobusters is highly under rated. I enjoyed it a lot and the mecha is some of the best IMHO.

Anybody watch Dekaranger 10 Years After? I really enjoyed Dekaranger back in the day, so it was nice to see everyone back in the saddle, like they barely skipped a beat.

Only seen SPD instead, and though it's isn't the same as Dekaranger, it is one of the better Disney Era PR seasons.

This news is a little old by now but it hasn't been said here yet so...
The five rangers for the 2017 MMPR reboot movie have been cast.
Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger
Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger
Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger
RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger
Becky G as the Yellow Ranger
And all five will be using the classic names of Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy and Trini.

I know not to judge upon first glances but...
Doubutsu Sentai Juuohger Mecha revealed
... I'm getting a Minecraft vibe from them. And not in a good way. Shinkenger's Shinken'oh was executed better IMO (even if I only have the US Megazord).

I like them actually.
On second thought, i like all sentai mecha. Oh well, we'll see what more we get. Though i am quite curious how they're going to work the 40th anniversary thing into the series.
This looks a lot like a cross between shinkengers' origami emblem forms, and engine-ohs' stack of animal faces

The suits are a bit better. They're kind of plain, being basically a solid color with the animal outlined on the chest and white cuffs, but it's something. Some firsts:
The first time we have had two women who were white and blue (paired) since Jetman in 1991. So the first in 20 years. The first female blue ranger since 2005's Magiranger, and the fifth in the franchise (after MagiBlue, Hurricane Blue, Blue Swallow of Jetman, and Blue Dolphin of Liveman). The first time we have had a green elephant ranger in Sentai (there have been green elephant zords, but the only corresponding ranger was an American creation). The first time this specific combination of colors has happened in the core team (i.e. the team present in the early solicitations for the show, before any extra members join in).
I was going to comment on the uniqueness of a female white ranger but I realized most white rangers have actually been female. Only two core white rangers have been male (Big One and GekiChopper), compared to seven female, and three of four outer white rangers have been male, for an overall ratio of 8 women to 5 men.
I loathe this megazord design. I don't mind the minecraft aesthetic so much, but the fact that they are literally blocks and the leg separation is only painted in infuriates me. I know it's kind of silly since sentai mecha are not renowned for their leg articulation, but at least the other 37 main robots had an actual leg separation in the toy, even if it was just a slight gap. I'm sure the suit will look better, but the toy design has clearly gone downhill over the past few years. I accepted that the days of truly imaginative transformations where you couldn't even tell what the robot was made from were gone, but to see it reduced to literally stacking three blocks on top of each other and folding a few panels around to create the illusion of detail...... I can only hope that the actual show fares better.

Ok, let prejudiced hatred begin:
Yup, all but one ranger are anthropomorphised animals, what some of you may consider "furries". At least they all seem to have human disguises.

Well, that's certainly one aspect we can expect to not be retained for a future Power Rangers adaptation.
