TakaraTomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-28 Hot Rod Discussion Thread

MP-01 was the OG whoa, without it there would be no others. Hell, the Alternators would've even failed without it. MP-02 rode on that whoa because you knew the whoa you were getting times Dreamwave Ultra Magnus cover whoa. Basic math.
The next real whoa wasn't until MP-08. Grimlock was a big damn whoa. The only complaint I have ever heard about it is the height which since they decreased the scale of the line isn't really a factor for most anymore.
MP-09's whoa started out high but decreased sharply with a whole host of issues. Still, much whoa at the Zod household for any Rodimus. I admit to bias.
MP-10 had the biggest whoa since MP-01. Straight up rewhoaing over a beautiful figure. MP-11 tried to ride the rewhoaing but, while impressive in its own right, not much whoa in something we've seen a bunch and knew we'd be seeing a lot more of. Starscream by nature has negative whoa. Which sucks because I like him. MP-10B had a harder fight but more than made its own whoa. I actually like the mold better in black because of it.
MP-13 and crew may have the highest combined whoa of the line. Getting them all together is like kaioken times 20 whoa. About as close as possible to a perfect whoa.
Had to wait a bit for more whoa but we got it back to back in MP-21 & 22. Bumblebee is more whoa than Soundwave on his own and is just carved out of solid whoa, blessed by pure whoa, and smiled upon by the gods of whoa. He'd be a perfect whoa if Soundwave and the cassettes hadn't raised the whoa limit. Ultra Magnus is a different kind of whoa. He's a whoa of mass and engineering. A huge technical whoa is still a whoa.
Hot Rod, Shockwave, Ironhide, even Optimus Primal all still have their whoa level pending until release and review. Shockwave is expected to keep his high whoa while speculation is that Optimus Primal may have the highest whoa levels ever recorded.
End result is that Hot Rod is still positive net whoa until proper testing is completed.
Note: All G2 versions have additional whoa added to the original. Hence G2 Sideswipe has whoa like crazy over Sideswipe. Obviously the same is true for Bumblebee. Thus they were not included in the ranking due to skewing the curve and unfairly decreasing whoa across the board. G2 Bumblebee is perfect whoa.

I move that "rewhoaing" be added to the dictionary.

What about Star Saber or Exhaust (post-Ultra Magnus, pre-Tracks/Ironhide)?zodconvoy wrote:Had to wait a bit for more whoa but we got it back to back in MP-21 & 22. I'll give Exhaust a big WHOA! Especially the circumstances of his acquisition for me. Found in the wild.
I whoaed all over Wheeljack, but there is something extra special about Exhaust. Could just be the taboo nature of his existence, and that blue translucent plastic, and head sculpt whoa me right in the whoa zone.

Personally, Star Saber has no whoa and it just looks like a Gundam model to me. Rather than judge it harshly, I opted not to at all. Between the loss of whoa due to not TF but rather Diaclone and the Marlboro issues and the positive post release whoa of scarcity of originals but overabundance of KOs, I find that Exhaust balances back to about Wheeljack's level of whoa, ie pretty good for the Autobot cars but still in the lull between Soundwave and Bumblebee. A worthy effort for a repaint.

I felt the same way about star saber, didn't really feel like a tf, but a victory leo mp combiner would do it. The whoa for me with him was the brainmaster - or whatever - mechanics, seeing them all work in the reviews was awesome.

My biggest woah was when I found those small panels on sideswipes legs making them solid looking all around. I am still impressed to this day.
The casettes didnt impress me at all though. They are great, sure, but predictable. There werent so many surprises there. I like being surprised. My biggest woah ever might still be animated lockdown.

Ahh yeah, he is so amazing, and yet so satisfying too. Had they done something similar with movie lockdown, he might have actually been a decent figure.

If not for lambourgini wanting to show off their new car, he was supposed to look much more like his animated counterpart. Concept art exists too for it. The animated worked the best too since it went from deluxe car to voyager robot basically, and it had the frikkin hook

I don't know, the animated ascetic would be really hard to pull off, even at masterpiece level...though deluxe prowl was all kinds of awesome.

I was in China Town L.A. hunting for KOs. Found a great shop with mostly imported Gundam models. At first glance, I thought it was Wheeljack, double take, SNATCH! Even haggled down the price a bit. It was one of those awesome unexpected hunting moments. Fun day! (no KOs were purchased BTWZeroWolf wrote:Cobo@ how'd you manage to get an exhaust in the wild?

I still completely love animated Jazz and Hotrod. In fact, MP Hotrod should have used the animated version for a starting point.

If they could slim the windshield down a bit it'd be great, as the wasit-to-chest ratio is way off.

It was already the starting point for the last MP Rodimus.
Also, just curious but it is general accepted that the best Rodimus made so far is Animated Rodimus Minor? Aside from him there is the MP, Energon, G1, Classics and Alternators.

Personally, I think G1 Hot Rod is the best. Sure, it lacks some articulation, but man wasn't that a fun and cool looking toy?

I'm with Ag. That's probably my favorite Hot Rod toy. Lots of good memories inside that figure.
But I don't have Animated. So I will have to try him out.
I've always been fond of Cybertron Excellion.
Which is really just a fancy space talk way of saying, Hot Rod.

The casettes didnt impress me at all though. They are great, sure, but predictable. There werent so many surprises there. I like being surprised. My biggest woah ever might still be animated lockdown.
I recently opened my MP Lambor and mistransformed him (forgot those side panels

On Star Saber, just my 10 cents. Sure he's a Valkyrie/Corefighter (battle up helmet similar in function to VF1-S) with G booster wannabee. But compare how the initial toy and artwork in the TF Generations book to how the MP version is a near carbon copy to the anime is another form of whoa. It would have been super WHOA if TT did a partsforming by including a separate helmet that would have served as a cockpit for Jean as seen in the episode of leozack's first appearance.
Concerning Hotrodimus, the whoa factor may have diminished through the years because we were all spoiled with such awesome rleases.

But I don't have Animated. So I will have to try him out.
I've always been fond of Cybertron Excellion.Which is really just a fancy space talk way of saying, Hot Rod.
Well it's basically the same thing: Hot Rod and (red) Hot Shot. Aside from short forearms, it seemed like a pretty great figure.

I've read all your front page lists, but I'm kinda drawin' a blank on this one, plus your image is broken
