The Good parts about Infiltration & Escalation
What was good about it? From what I hear, it focusses too much on human characters, not enough robotic kick-ass action. I think I read or heard somewhere that it's a little different from the TF's landing on earth from the 80's, Prime doesn't want the humans to know they exist. Is that right? I'm considering picking up Infiltration & possibly Escalation if I like it........

The good part is that its an intelligently written update on the G1 Transformers story much like the movie should have been. It doesn't focus to much on human characters, the whole concept of the original G1 story was that Transforming robots from another planet came to Earth, for the humans not to get involved in some way would be ludicrous. If I were you I'd give it ago its by far the best Transformers fiction available right now.

What Alex said.
As for it focusing too much on humans....what?
Other than the first two, maybe three issues, it's been atleast 75% focused on the robots.
The problem is that there are too many unrealistic crybabies in the fanbase who only think humans should appear as things to be stepped on, and thats never going to happen. Atleast not in a well written comic.(Off earth comics excluded obviously. Human prescence isn't neccisary for comics that take place in areas not populated by humans)

Agreement-but u cant just get infiltration and esscelation, the whole universe which IDW are building is intrinisically linked. So u gotta collect Stormbringer and the Spotlights as they add to the other books.
Unfortunatly due to the lack of the crashed arc their beast wars series doesnt link into their g1. but it is still a really good read, so pick it up too!
Dont bother with hearts of steel, defo their darkest hour!

Agreed I really didn't like Transformers: Evolutions, I hope Hearts of Steels was the first and last of that title. It just seemed like a silly excuse to make Transformers into a bunch of industrial age steambots.

Hmmm. I've already gotten my hands on every issue of Stormbringer except #1, plus I have all the Spotlights excuding Sixshot & Ultra Magnus. I was originally thinking of picking up Escalation because of the cliffhanger from the last issue of Stormbringer. So I guess I should start buying.........

I didn't read Stormbringer, I just couldn't bring myself to focus on it, with so many other good comics vying for my attention. If somebody could give me a quick synopsis, I'd much appreciate it. As for Infiltration and Escalation...I'm liking reading Escalation quite a bit, although I hope Furman does not keep Prime aloof to humans and human suffering forever. As for Infiltration, I did not enjoy reading the original mini-series as it came, because of its slow pacing. However, recently (just today
), I had the opportunity to reread the entire miniseries in the paperback collection, and found it much more rewarding. Being able to read the whole, rather than just chapters, made everything much clearer and rewarding. In addition, I read all of the spotlights the other day, too, and it's quite neat how much important stuff for the IDW iteration of the TFU that Furman put into them...considering how great they were on characterization. I loved them. I think IDW (by which I mean Furman) is doing a much better job than Dreaamwave did, Stormbringer excepted...and I'm thinking now I'll have to check that on in Paperback collection too....

I have to admit, I still prefer the Marvel and Dreamwave comics to the IDW G1. Though I do enjoy Infiltration and Escalation.
Stormbringer seemed hollow. I much preferred Dreamwave's interpretation of the characters, especially Sunstreaker. Plus I think the nervous Backstreet would have fitted the new recruit role better than Dogfight whose profile suggests a hardened fighter if I remember.
The big threats like Sunstorm or Thunderwing just seem empty now. Marvel Thunderwing was far more interesting.
Don't actually mind the humans. Too much aliens in the Spotlight series. Always felt the weaker TF stories of old features aliens and humans like that cosmic carnival story with PM Prime and Sky Lynx. Althhough oddly, I really enjoyed Cloudburst and Landmine's space adventure with the Mecannibals.
Speaking of Spotlight, are those pics I saw of Hot Rod 'surfing' on a meteor shower? Haven't read it, but if that is what's going on, I think Simon's watched too much Energon with those annoying 'flying about in space without a ship' scenes.
Seems a shame with Titan and now IDW themselves reprinting the Marvel G1/G2 stuff, that someone doesn't carry on from that universe.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad IDW are continuing TF comics, I love the Beast Wars and Evolutions series. I suppose I just miss the old stuff. 10 years of Marvel was a long time to just disregard. Some of us grew up on that stuff and I suppose, always hoped that universe would be revisited some day.
It was the longest running and best TF series, especially when padded out with the Marvel UK stuff. I miss Marvel Rodimus Prime.

I missed Stormbringer 1, so I didnt bother with the others. Thought I'd just view things from Earth's perspective. Infiltration is much better if you read it all together and Escalation is looking good too (haven't picked up #3 yet. Going to get it on Monday.)
Yes, but that's only a very minor part and it has a very logical reason for it happening.
What's good about these series? The tf's look like tf's. And it's extremely well pieced together.
And to Decepticlone Soundwave:
Get Magnus Spotlight. It's the best yet imo. But feel free to skip Sixshot. Save the money.

It's got a very good story going, the art is top-notch, a nice array of characters, and the humans are not the focus. I agree, this one of the best comic storyline ever

IMO Infiltration/Escalation would've been better as a fortnightly than a monthly, there's just not enough cliffhangers or subplots in the main title to have me counting the days to the next issue. When the next issue is released I'm more like 'oh, it's been a month already' than 'Woohoo! I can't wait to read it'. But that's just me.

They're good TF reads, so you should get them, or borrow them from a fellow collector or something.
Stormbringer was very anticlimatic, and Infilitration did have a predictable, but enjoyable ending...
Escalation has been a nice bit of Tf action on Earth...
The Spotlights are excellent BTW. Those I did have a hard tiem waiting to see what would come next...especially since they introduce and are focused on many characters not in the main title, some of which who have not seen much time at all in print form.

Yes I really enjoyed the ending to Infiltration, I will admit. The Starscream thing tends to be predictible in most series but how often have we seen Megatron take him out so coldly.
Of course I did like Energon Scorponok blowing away Armada Starscream.
I do like how Megatron seems more together than in previous incarnations of G1 and I do like this interpretation of Prowl.
Though my favourite interpretation of Prowl is from the early Marvel US comics.
I know my earlier coments were a bit negative so I thought I'd amend them. Afraid IDW are getting the brunt of my 'not another TF continuity' phase.
