Is anyone else following this show? I'm a comic collector, but never bought this comic. I'm extremely impressed by this show thus far.
SPOILERS!
My impressions thus far:
I'm actually angry that the main character's (Officer Friendly's) wife is banging his buddy ALREADY! What the hell?
I'm really surprised that they didn't edit out some pretty harsh language.
2nd episode - "I'll be damned if I take orders from a ni**er!". That REALLY shocked me, actually. I never would've thought they'd put that in unedited. Plus, the scene where they smear themselves with "Walker" guts to avoid detection...those scenes told me this show isn't going to pull any punches.
(Mods, if deemed inappropriate, please erase that statement.).
This show has the potential to the the talk of TV.

I've read thru the comics so I've been impressed by the bits they are using in the series to expand the stories, so even those of us who "know" what should happen still get to enjoy something new.
And Energon, there is a good reason that Shane and Lori are going at it that will be necessary to future episodes if the show gets that far.
Once I ran an Anime festival with over 6,000 attendees. Now... not so much.

I missed the debut, saw last night's tho. WOW! Amazing effects and makeup! How long has it been since Officer Friendly and his wife/son were separated? Seems like she didn't waste much time getting it on w/ Shane.
I love Glen and his ride in the stolen Charger! VRRROOOM!
EDIT- More thoughts. I too was surprised at the harsh language. I did think it was not realistic to have T-Dog (name?) walk all the way back to the biker-guy to open his handcuffs- I would've just tossed him the key. The key could have been lost the same way, making T-Dog fall the way he did was just silly. I thought it was odd that the biker-guy would be left to die, looks like he'll be back.
Also, in the spirit of SciFi's Battlestar Galactica, this show is indeed a character drama that happens to be delivered via a specific genre. Excellent.

Great show.. I look forward too seeing how the show plays out.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Me, Grimlock! wrote:I only saw the first episode, so I have yet to see the second. I'm glad they're sticking closely to the comics, but I hope they diverge a little more in the future episodes. And I'm also glad m'man Glenn was one of the characters chosen to be in it, in a cast of at least 40 characters from the comics!
Now if they'd only fit Michonne in soon.
The second episode touches on concepts from issues 3/4, but really is completely different from the books. The good news is that AMC has already green lighted a full 13 episode 2nd season.
While I know I read it somewhere, and I can't find it now. I'm sure they have said they plan to introduce Michonne sooner than her comic debut. Likely at the beginning of the second series.
My guess is that the season will end on a cliffhanger of them finding the Wiltshire Estates from issue 8,which will be used to introduce Michonne and Tyreese. Hopefully leaving out his daughter and idiot boyfriend, explaining they had already died rather than have to worry about bringing in two fan-favorites while dealing with 2 rather weak and unnecessary characters.
But that's just my prediction.
And for anyone who hasn't seen it, This was a fan-made opening for the show using the art from the original books. Not in tone to the show, but better (IMO) than what they went with.

If you could cut through bone you could cut through a thin bar of rusty steel. I get that it was done for shock value and to add interest to the character's plight but it's one of those things that just seems stupid when you see it on screen.

Yeah, I thought the same thing about Merle and the hacksaw. I'll tell ya what though, even if that blade was dull as sh*t, I'd keep at it for hours before putting into my wrist!

Like how in the most recent ep. those two girls were sitting out in the boat conversing while fishing, i thought it was a waste of space better used for zombie mayhem
But I do understand it can't be cheap to follow the comic's out and out zombie shenanigans.
However, I think some of the stuff they're doing, like the run in with the "gang" in the last episode, was a nice touch and its good to be surprised, because having somethign follow the comics religiously would make the whole thing kinda redundant.
Love "Guts" though!

Well written and the acting is top notch. Not to mention the special effects themselves.
Another show worthy of mention is Dead Set. Super awesome zombie show that's ultra violent and has some of the more creative death scenes i've seen in a while. An intelligent contribution to the Zombie genre along with The walking Dead.
I make sure i'm at home to watch the Walking Dead every sunday for sure.

But anywho, before I end up derailing this topic... "The Walking Dead" I just recently started reading the comic (as of last week) and just recently got into the show (as of last night via iTunes season pass) and I freaking love it! The acting is really great and the zombies, good god, the zombies look phenomenal! I have only watched the first two episodes so far and I honestly can say that this is the first TV show that I have truly, genuinely enjoyed in quite some time, I am going to watch the next three episodes over the course of the weekend so that I can be all caught up for episode 6 this Sunday! Oh, zombies can eat horses, we're saved! At least we are until we...f*cking run out of horses...

About the latest episode, "TS-19": so the group's arrival at the CDC was a red herring at best, or just a worthless plot point at worst. I really thought that Jenner would tell the group that he needed tissue samples from a human that was recently turned zombie, and they would go back for Jim, the guy that was bitten and left behind at his own request.
This would made for a great episode- they would have had to deal with seeing one of their own as a walker, one they had only just left to "die", esp. shocking for Andrea. But they just blew up the CDC and that one lady, and moved on. I'm not sure what this episode accomplished, maybe I need to watch it again.
I'm concerned that this show is going to suffer from what happened to Lost- a great premise, strong out of the gate, but eventually mired in dead-end subplots and issues left unresolved. Still a great show now, though, looking forward to more.

They did get a lot of information while they were there. Like how the infection works and that it's worldwide. I knew they couldn't stay there, it wouldn't be much of a show if they were safe underground the whole time.

Oh my gosh, I so agree!!
I for one am really no fan of zombie stories that feel the need to explain how the infection came to pass, part of what made the comics so great is they didn't seem to dwell on the hows, rather the what the hell are we going to do to survive now? Granted, I've only managed to get up to about issue 50 in the comics >_<
I'm kinda hoping the next season will get back to the comic lines, obviously there would be things they might not be able to do for sheer size and cost, but really, the CDC thing was just a waste of space.
But I was hoping that when they reached the CDC they'd go otu and collect samples, and maybe spend a few weeks there, I was thinking they'd treat teh CDC as they treated the jail in the comics.

IMO, the main points as far as I could tell of the CDC (which Kirkman admits he wasn't aware was in Atlanta when he start the comic) was:
a) to point out this is world-wide.
b) to advance the Andrea / Dale relationship without having them resort to sex.
c) to write Jacqui (who was filling Donna's spot at the camp) out of future stories as they seem to have decided against covering the issues with that family all together.
d) to inform Rick that Lori is pregnant with Judith, in order to bring forth the Rick / Shane fight which will lead to Shane's (now overdue) death.
Once I ran an Anime festival with over 6,000 attendees. Now... not so much.

This is a comic I've not picked up but next show I go to I may just see about getting a collected edition. I read where the creator(Kirkman) said that he is going to change up some things on the show vs the comic. Reason being is he thought he'd never get to 25 issues let alone 80 so he's going to mix up the dynamic. Essentially just cause you know the comic don't expect to see a direct adaptation across the board for the series.
I read where the writing staff was let go do to some union issues or something? I hope they iron that out cause that staff crafted a great 6 episodes. Would hate to rock the boat with new writers who can't maintain the magic created by S1.

What the f*ck am I talking about? This is the best f*cking show on TV!
Season 2 is shaping up to be better than season 1 so far.
Does anybody who has read the graphic novel know if they find that little girl? It's really irritating me.
