It doesn't say he was killed. It's just like what Bumblebee did to him.
He's just twisted and unmoving. Bumblebee did worse to him.
Shorted his circuit or something. Causing some sparks to fly.
He'll surely survive. No doubt.

The pointi s the book and comic aren't the movie, so it probably won't happen, or be explained. Ever.
