I hate exclusives - if it really IS some essential G1'er that should be released in the re-start of Generations I'm going to like them even less.
Luckily the picture of the dog-doo partial-head has put me off getting too uptight about this. Yet.

I'm not too big on comic lore, Sabreblade could probably address this better then me, but I don't believe Impactor "hearkens back to the 1980's". I think he should up in the IDW Wreckers comics. Could be wrong.

How about Dinobots, we still need Classics versions of Sludge, Slag, Swoop and Snarl.

The exact words of the Tweet were "Three are seeing their first updates ever". The word "ever" means that these three have NEVER seen the light of day since their original debuts. The word "their" is referring to the characters, not the toy molds, since they use the word "character" in other Tweets regarding these three.GetRightRobot wrote:Devcon got a toy? Missed that one. More to the point, I believe they are referring to toy molds that have not yet been repurposed/retooled/repainted, not Characters who have never received a toy.
And, no Devcon didn't get a toy, but he has had his character updated time and again in the fiction. The closest he got to a toy were a prototype from BM Mirage and concept art from Energon Slugslinger which, while not mass produced, are still updates of the character (though, the Mirage update did make it into fictional form in the Wreckers BotCon comics).
Oh, and, about Impactor, he's had no (official) toy, but he has had a modern iteration of his character in Animated in the form of Impactor Major.

Re: BotCon 2012 Exclusive Set Hype Begins
Yeah, I'd LURVE Dinobots, but can't think of any mold that would suit them with just a head swap. The 80s comics did heavily feature the wreckers, xaaron, impactor... That would make a great set, and is probably something Hasbro is steering clear of. Devcon, too... fantastic idea. Would definitely buy that.
OOK. idea... the Jumpstarters haven't ever had a redo. Those would be a great addition to the set, if they're Wreckers... not to mention a MUST HAVE add-on to get the pair of them. (Thinking you'd get a head retool for the other guy.)
Not to mention the Jumpstarters and Battlechargers would all be TFCC figures.
BAM!

Do they mean an original mold that is given some modifications or a character that was never remade in any form since it's first appearance?
They're talking about Characters, not molds. That means toys that haven't ever recieved an update since their original incarnation, I believe. This allows us to rule out two classes of characters... those that have any modern interpretation of the original, and those who never had a toy in the first place.
If you want to nitpick, Orion Pax has only ever had one toy made of him (the eHobby version of G1 Kup), and given the recent use of Dion, would seem to fit with the War Dawn/Wings of Honor timeframe they've been working within for a while now.

Ohhh. I'd love that Orion Pax upgrade of Kup. I was planning to kitbash that myself, if they don't do it for the set. Would be great with Dion.

Have the Clones had any updates since the 80's?
And, just to mention, I'd love Longtooth.

The tweets continue to say that Longtooth is NOT in the set, only an example. Seems old Sabreblade might be right...again

Okay, new Tweets has specified further what they mean by characters who have never ever received an update. Toy reissues, things like Robot Heroes, and recycled names for other characters (who themselves are not meant to be updates of those who they share their names with) don't count as updates. However, if they share a name with an 80s character and ARE meant to be a new version of that character, regardless of being the same person or not, then that does count as an update (an example they use is how Animated Shockwave is an update to G1 Shockwave despite being a different person). Confused yet? Good!
Here's a list of just 1984-1987 G1 guys who might qualify for this.
Sludge
Topspin
Twin Twist
The Powerdashers
Downshift
Kickback
Shrapnel
Barrage (Insecticon)
Chop Shop
Ransack
Rewind
Eject
Broadside
Rampage
Headstrong
Tantrum
Gnaw (not merely the sharkticons, but Gnaw specifically)
Afterburner
Fastlane
Cloudraker
Grotusque
Doublecross...
There's more I want to list, but I have to stop now since I gotta get off and go out now. Bye now.

This is the part that has me confused.
What two Transformers share a name but aren't supposed to be the same character? I'm assuming it's probably some less popular secondary character or something because every Prowl or Ratchet I have ever seen is supposed to be "Prowl" and "Ratchet".

You missed an important one: Bumper. (formerly known as Bumblejumper) He's only ever had the one toy, he desperately needs an update, he's an easy BotCon fix. My money's on Bumper as the must have. Plus, I think that's his head on its side on the sculptor's desk. As for the "Distant" Past thing? What if they meant physical distance? like Japan? like Diaclone characters? i.e. Perceptor repainted as Magnificus or some such... Or heck, Classics Stepper (Jazz) and Artfire (Inferno) (Japanese book exclusive Stepper is a seperate license, so AFAIK, this is doable).
I'm psyched to see what the set will be, but yeah, I'm even more psyched to see WHERE the con will be. *fingers crossed for Florida*

Think G1 homage in design, especially in the Energon and Superlink lines

Diaclone=do not want. I'm not saying it'd be awful but it isn't something I want either. Pre-Transformers is cool stuff, for its time. It should stay in that era IMO.

Re: BotCon 2012 Exclusive Set Hype Begins
A few Diaclone "new" characters in the mix would be nice... but, none of those characters have established (and relatable) personalities, so I wouldn't want ALL the exclusives to be straight diaclone repaints. We get excited about characters we know and love... from the comics or TV... or those with a twist (like Shattered Glass prime, etc.)
The police Sunstreaker is pimp ... red Tracks and Mirage would we awesome. Also would love a Constructicon repaint of Mudflap. Chromedome repaint of Classics Hot Rod. Skids (and black Ironhide) from Classics Ironhide. Devcon or Slipstream from Cyclonus.
(looking at the mockups here)
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transform ... ashes.html
For out-of-the-USA ideas, what about Malboro Wheeljack with a retool head!
Maybe the blue and lavender Windcharger repaint from Argentina. HA!

Has anyone mentioned Dion yet? Could be some UK characters like Impactor or Xxaron, tryin to cover as much ground as I can. thinking though the Marvel comics run from the 80's since IDW will be picking that up and running with it to promote it in a way. Springer hasn't had an update, has he? Even better "Last Stand of the Wreckers" set, but that would be too current.

Well, Dion being last years club exclusive freebie would probably rule him out. Springer had a classics figure a couple of years ago, and a movie legends, not as if they could top Fansproject anyway. Xxaron, Impactor, and Devcon seem to be front runners in my mind.

Well if you like mysteries, maybe you might enjoy watching Scooby Doo. If you like playing guessing games, you can always pick up "Clue" at your local TRU.
But for me personally, I dont have time for all that sillyness. I got the money and Im willing to spend it. Playing silly guessing games about Botcon exclusives, locations, etc. isnt going to make or break a sale from me. Im there...PERIOD. It's supposed to be Botcon, not Area 51. So I think they should cut out all that BS and give it to us straight up.
