Do the battery on your old NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis games still work?

I was just wondering if any of you have played any of your old NES, SNES, Game Boy, or Genesis games with a battery, and does the battery still work?

I think that they said the average lifespan of a game battery is 5 years (but perhaps how often you use it affects the lifespan), but I know for a fact that the battery on just about all my old games except one have lasted longer than that.

The one exception is Breath Of Fire for SNES, which the battery lasted only a year. I bought it, played it, beat it, and then a year later went back to play it, but couldn't save. But perhaps this was a faulty battery to start with.
