Okay, well I received Optimal Optimus today and I must say.... he is the ugliest Transformer I own. The only thing I like about him, besides being a great show character, is the robot head sculpt. Other than that, yuck! If I wasn't collecting the show characters he'd be going right back up on eBay.
To those who posted how much they like this figure, I don't mean to offend. To each his own.

OpOp was the last BW I got. And the last one I got to 'play with'. Personally, I love him. Yeah, his vehicle modes suck all kinds, but I just leave him in robot mode. His has some decent articulation and he looks good when posed with normal Primal and 20th Prime.
As for recamendations on show characters, I would say TM Megs and Rampage. Both are great looking figures and highly show accurate.
If you want to venture outside the show guys, I would also say TM Waspinator.

depth charge and rampage FTW. 2 of the best beastwars transmetels ever. i loved optimal, partialy because he was huge, but primal prime has a batter color scheme.

bleh...
I remember what a let down this figure was...
Billed as a kind of side-product of his time with the Matrix/Optimus Prime... and feeding off the G1 nostalgia that was building and building in those days... the figure "had to be mine"... it was going to be the first TF from Beast Wars with a land vehicle and air vehicle mode- autonomous of the beast mode... it was going to harken back to G1...
It did none of these things; beyond the fact that it was big. But the jet and truck modes were terrible, the ape mode was just not right (the colors of the ape were just wrong), and the robot mode was ok - but nothing to write home about.
The charm of Primal was gone - the original BW Primal remains far superior to this day; particularly the Takara reissie with the face upgrade...
TM Primal was superior; with the surf board ...
I dunno... this guy is just lame... couldn't even see the point of bringing him into Titanium, truth be told...

Are there any BW metals figures that you'd highly recommend? I'm limiting myself to t.v. show only figures.
Optimal Optimus is one of the best BW figures ever created. I got him last year from a coastal toy store MISB and had to open him up while I was still down there.
TM2 Megatron is the only toy that trumps Optimal Optimus, and though I personally do not own either, both Depth Charge and Rampage are excellent figures, though both will set you back some $$$. TM Tarantulas, Waspinator and Cheetor are all excellent smaller figures.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.
