Re: Paramount looks to expand Transformers film franchise with spin-offs and more sequels
If they are doing an animated prequel I'd be happy with an animated version of the idw series where Megatron first encounters The Fallen.
I was ready to give up on the franchise after Revenge of the Fallen but that book pulled me back in.

As soon as AoE came out, I predicted that Windblade would be in TF 5. But she could also be in this animated prequel as well. If the Machinima animated CW is anything true to the comic, then she will have to be there by default. Yes as is classic Hasbro, we will all be sick of their newest creation because of over exposure, just in time for the next one to come along.

Sorry… Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger! Is that better? How about … Beast Wars II: Lio Convoy’s Critical Moment! I find it amusing that on Wikipedia they have the word imminent misspelled. Unfortunately unless Hasbro ever releases this film in North America (sadly doubtful), or Toei ever comes up with an official English title, it is open to all sorts of interpretation.

Though, the Wikipedia thing doesn't surprise me. Typical Wikipedia.

I personally really liked the AoE Drift. That whole robot cast fit well for me. I'd hope that if they do include Windblade, she would have a similar treatment and come out just as good

I think most people here are discussing use/overuse of the characters Hasbro has created, not so much their alt modes. Besides Drift and Windblade's alt modes aren't any less conspicuous.

Windblade has never been in the movies, so that doesn't apply to her. And both of Drift's alt modes are much less noticeable than a bright yellow fighter plane would be. Unless Bayverse would deviate from that and give Sunstorm a different color scheme. But then he wouldn't really feel right. Sunstorm needs that bright gold.o.supreme wrote:I think most people here are discussing use/overuse of the characters Hasbro has created, not so much their alt modes. I was going strictly by the comics. Drift's appearance in AoE bears absolutely no resemblance to his IDW persona, either in character, on in alt mode(s). They are for all intensive purposes two completely different characters. If/When Windblade does appear in TF5, she will look and act completely different, as I would imagine Sunstorm would if he ever appeared in a live action film, though since that original character is well over a decade old, and from a portion of TF history most would like to forget (which is why It's a miracle The Fallen was ever chosen as the focus of one film) I doubt they would use Sunstorm. Gotta keep up with "the new", that's what Hasbro does.

Drift wasn't completely different. He was a samurai who valued honor and discipline above most other things. Is that unlike his character in the comics?
And Sentinel Prime was over a decade old, and so was Megatron in the first movie. The only "new" villain they've had was Lockdown.

Threatening Bumblebee's life simply because he felt BB was an annoyance, cowering with Crosshairs as he left Optimus to confront the Dinobots alone.... Yeah...not really fitting your description.

Most of the characters they've used were from the main mythos. The point is, that we all know Hasbro likes to shoehorn in their new characters in any form of media they can. If anyone doesn't think Windblade wont appear in the next live action Transformer film, then they don't know Hasbro at all.

He never threatened Bumblebee's life. Bumblebee came at him like he wanted to fight and Drift put him in his place. He even told Bublebee that his childish facade was demeaning.
And Drift wasn't cowering, he knew the Dinobots were out of his league, but not for Optimus. I can see IDW Drift knowing his boundaries.

Really? Because that was Drift's major flaw when Roberts started fleshing him out beyond a 2D cardboard cutout of Japanese stereotypes. Drift is overenthusiastic and doesn't know when to quit. He once sliced a plague victim in half.

All that means is that AOE Drift is a more patient Drift. If IDW Drift elected to sit out on a single fight that he had nothing to do with, to let someone else, who he knew was more than competent enough, handle their own business, would that really be that out of character for him? Now, he might want to intervene, but I don't think it would be that big of a deal for him to do that. You certainly wouldn't look at him as a completely different character if he did.

Then, why did he complain about Bumblebee having no discipline? Why was he one of the first to jump at saving Optimus? Why does he call Optimus "Sensei"? Why did he recite that haiku about loyalty to Hound? Because he values honor and discipline.

This one I can answer. Because that's a common Japanese stereotype that Hollywood and other Western media have twisted from its original meaning.SlyTF1 wrote:Why does he call Optimus "Sensei"?
It made no sense for Drift call Optimus "Sensei" in the manner the movie intended since the manner the movie intended (which was to portray Drift as a Feudalist Samurai retainer loyal to his lord or nobleman master) did not have Samurai use the word "Sensei" in that way.
"Sensei" means "teacher", in an academic sense. The film gave us nothing to presume that Drift was ever a student of Optimus, or that Optimus was ever an academic teacher to anyone (same goes for all the other movies and even the Movieverse comics and novels). In fact, Drift's official backstory has him as a former Decepticon having defected to the Autobots, which is likewise never even remotely hinted at by the movie and only known from Drift's toy bio.
If they really wanted to have Drift refer to Optimus by a term that would convey his status as a loyal Samurai retainer to his master Optimus, then they should have used a word like "Master". Or if that doesn't sound gratuitously Japanese enough (as in, not plying up the stereotype obvious enough for the filmmakers), then something like "Tonosama" would have sufficed (the Tonosama were the lords and noblemen of Feudal Japan whom the Samurai served under).

The fact that he calls Optimus "Sensei" is presumption enough. It was also mentioned in the Rise of the Dark Spark game.

That Optimus was somewhat of an academic teacher to Drift. I mean, he was originally homeless in the IDW comics, which probably meant he didn't have much of an education. And I'm sure the Decepticons wouldn't take any time out of their conquest to teach him any linguistics or anything of the sort. And I know the movie universe is different, but no one ever said Drift's story had to be any different from that. Until they can show us some of Drift's backstory that contradicts that idea, the notion that Optimus taught actually taught Drift academically is relevant. You can't dismiss it. And don't forget, Optimus was head of Cybertron's science division before the war, so he obviously knows something.

The thing that breaks up this whole idea of yours of Drift having been educated by Optimus is the sheer fact that they weren't even using the word in that context. They were using it in the stereotypical Hollywood way of saying "he's Japanese, he has a master, so we'll have him call his master 'Sensei' to further the stereotype!" It was not used in an educational student-teacher sense, it was used in a Samurai-based servant-master sense, which is the predominate sense that Western media has taken to adopt as being correct when it's always been wrong regardless.SlyTF1 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Of which point?
The filmmakers were just going along with the widely known misnomer out of sheer ignorance, because that's what Hollywood does.
Would you have even considered the idea of Optimus being an educator to Drift had I not ever mentioned the movie's incorrect use of the word? If you say "yes", then you're just further trying to find excuses for bad writing by filling in the blanks yourself with information from external media and external concepts that are completely unrelated to the movie in question, which is completely ludicrous.
