WOW! How did you get such a good price when the reissue is only £100? In any case, good on you!
Here's my question for you. If they were to make a new Megatron, would you actually sell your Appolyon?

I have no idea! I just kept relisting him on eBay and eventually someone bit. That is a very good question, I bought Appolyon as I felt TT would never do a V2 Megs, however the Shockwave release has had me seriously rethink any 3rd Party figure. I suppose it would depend on how he looked, Appolyon has his faults but he's still a very hard act to follow IMO.

I think that last sentence conveys my feelings the best, but in regaurds to the 3rd party market as a whole. Its a very hard act for Hastak to follow. I look at all the amazing figures revealed at the recent 'con and I think "amazing". Then I look at Hotrod, and all I can think is "lazy". Given the weight some fans out on it, official should mean something. But it doesn't look like it does.

This actually reminds me of aoe galvatron, where it's impossible to go from one mode to the other (to achieve show/movie accuracy), so it ends up as a mess of panels, crammed somewhere people won't notice it as much.
The problem lies in trying to achieve show accuracy, the show's models were drawn as minimalistic as possible, so it therefore has no kibble, which means the car mode must now be folded up and stuffed into his body, which leads to compromise. I imagine that if they could have had parts of his car attached to the rear of his legs, he might be quite a bit better, but that wouldn't be show accurate, so you get this

I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

But there is a big difference. AOE Galvatron literally broke down into pieces to become the robot, one of the alt mode is present in the robot mode, so what they did made perfect sense (and I think worked as well as it could). In this case, its only the legs that are new in robot mode and only the cockpit that is new in alt mode. Both the G1 toy and the Animated toy (and even the first MP) figured out how to do it with providing a sleek enough physique (for their corresponding technological eras) with a minimal backpack. I am actually really surprised by how stacked it looks on this toy. His chest is the front of the car, his back is the back of the car, so whats with all the extra crammed stuff, wouldnt it be just the middle area.

I don't know what people are complaining about; this new Hot Rod looks quite good to me. He has a bit of a backpack, but as long as it doesn't stick out too far I'm cool with it.

On the plus side, if someone decides to stab him in the back, he probably wouldn't feel it!

I really don't mind the backpack TBH, it's no more prominent that MP-09 or Bee and Magnus. Non issue for me.

Non-issue here too. I just hope he stays balanced. I was playing around with MP TRU Rodimus last night and had a little bit of issues trying to balance him out...I really don't know how the hinge on his backpack brokeleakin' lubricant wrote:I really don't mind the backpack TBH, it's no more prominent that MP-09 or Bee and Magnus. I've come to accept backpack kibble on Transformers as a fact of life. It's nothing new at all. Many figures just don't look that great from the back. I understand, though, that with the title of "Masterpiece," expectations are a LOT higher, and there have been some amazing successes so far, but that just can't be done with every character model. The 1986 characters especially seem to have a hard time reconciling cartoon models with largely minimalistic kibble and arbitrary placement of vehicle features with a toy that functionally transforms between one mode and another. MP-28 Hot Rod looks great from the front, which is about as good as I need. Also, remember that the camera adds about 20 lbs. That backpack might not be so prominent when viewed in hand. I missed out on MP-9, but now I'm glad to have a chance at a lower cost alternative in a better scale (for Hot Rod, at least).

This exactly.
To those who are taking issue with this I think the main point should not be why is the kibble so big, it should be where else would the kibble be put. Frankly if you cannot answer that question then you should not be complaining.

Here's a nice comparison shot I stumbled across:

Pretty much identical in size. Now if you compare that to, Starscream, Prowl, Bee and Magnus, it's actually quite minimal.
