They basically took the original version and shrunk it. I feel he actually became more fiddly because of the smaller size.

And I don't know if you'd call it a modern update either considering it's been out for a while and only came out a few years after the original release. It's an inbetweener.

While I do find the Optimal colors just as baffling as you all, I think it is a great coloration and in a way, it works out with Prime's spark influencing the design as was previously said, but i think the orange was a way to differentiate him from the red of Prime.

I definitely did enjoy the colors on Throne of the Primes Primal. I have both versions and like both of them equally as well. It is enjoyable. I'm hoping to get an original Primal in some form later this year, i think he had a bunch of good toys

These guys are so Neo-nsensical but are so much fun too! Ya know, looking at it, Neo and the main Beast Wars are really different from one another, similar plastic looks but very different aesthetics, if that makes sense.

Well, of the 15 Neo guys I have, Big Convoy, Longrack, Break, Cohrada, Stampy, Guiledart, Dead End, Saberback and Sharp Edge were all new in package when I got them. Hardhead, Mach Kick, Heinrad, Magmatron, Archadis, and Sling were all loose. I feel very privileged.

If I had to guess, I would say a connection between a certain scene in RotF (think Simmons standing on a pyramid under Devy) and Heinrad's tanuki alt mode...

Let's not forget one of the most important things Gorilla Primal had going for it as a figure: Probably the best and sturdiest joints in the first wave.

If by "a few" you mean 8. And come to think of it, what other takes on Optimus Primal's original gorilla bod have there been aside from the MP (which I imagine is more fiddly)? I guess maybe there's the 10th anniversary awkward mashup of the original and the Transmetal.

Same. I like the corresponding Megatron, but...

The one downside to the original Ultra Ape Optimus Primal IMO is the janky arm-flailing gimmick. It's fun when you want to make use of it, but it can be a hassle at others.

So today I brought in Mach kick, and while his name is awesome, I think he will definitely stay in horse mode, I am not a fan of the robot mode. He is the weakest of my Neo Maximals, and maybe neo guys period.

I haven't touched either of them for a while, but I do remember being disappointed by both (given how good the originals are)

I will no doubt be setting them up this weekend (provided I don't end up in the emergency department again like last week) so I'll see if my opinion has changed.
