Which Metroid Game Is The Greatest?
Metroid games are a series of video games produced by Nintendo. One of the company's most successful franchises, the series spans through several Nintendo systems, starting with Metroid (1986) on the Famicom Disk System, and various ports, sequels, and remakes on the NES, Game Boy, Super NES, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo DS and Wii.
Now the question is, which game of the Metroid franchise does NF think is the greatest of them all?
Personally I think Super Metroid was the best of them all.

Your missing Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Pinball.
My favorite one would have to be Super Metroid(Metroid 3), closely followed by Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion(Metroid 4).
The ones that I don't own are Super Metroid as I never had a SNES(played it with an emulator and I'm going to get it on the VC when its available in Europe), Metroid Prime 3(not out here til October, at least we don't have to wait 5 months for it like Super Paper Mario

Was anyone else a bit disappointed that Super Metroid wasn't an unlockable on Prime Hunters?

I really liked "Echoes" because it was something entirely different. But Super Metroid will always be my favorite.

I completely forgot about Hunters and Pinball.
I've completed Hunters so many times it's not funny.
I just need to get:
Pinball
Super Metroid
Zero Mission
And my Metroid Archives will be up to date.
Aren't you glad Metroid Prime didn't come out on N64 like originally planned?

Super metroid stand out to me. It's got endless replay-ability, no load times, no long passwords, fun bosses, lots of stuff to find, and classic metroid effects.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say Metroid prime. Its not only my fav game in the series its probably my favorite game of all time.
its huge, the level design is absolutely astounding, its immaculately paced and it easily rivals Ocarina of time for updating a 2d franchise into 3d.
Bloody brilliant stuff!

Super Metroid is a wonderfully crafted game, I can really see why all the people who have never played Turrican think it's the greatest 2D game ever.
I remember the big fuss when it first came out, it was the largest game ever at the time (with the most screens or something) and it came in a huge box with a big booklet full of info on all the levels and bosses.
I beat it a few times but found the game lacking in a few respects - it was a bit too slow paced for my tastes, the balance between exploration and manic blasting was waay off (unlike Turrican) some of the graphics were embarrasingly bad for a 16-bit system (unlike Turrican), particularly on some of the backgrounds. The sound wasn't up to much, (unlike Turrican) with not a single memorable tune from the entire series.
I checked Fusion out some years later, the game seemed like a lazy retread of Super but with much better graphics. I liked the little cutscenes and bits that added to the atmosphere of the game but I still didnt think it was 'blasty' enough.
After the disappointment of Fusion i didn't go back to the series but would like to check out Prime sometime.

I remember reading about Turrican in Nintendo Power, but never did play it—but hey!—since everyone seems to be big fans of Super Metroid, got any favorite parts in the game.
I loved the battle with the Crocomire. And discovering the second part of Maridia without a strategy guide is something I'm pretty proud of.

There isn't a bad one in the bunch. And it's very rare to find any other franchise that can say that.

My #1 problem with Echoes is the fact you have to get everything all the missiles and bombs to get the best ending I got 96% and gave up haven't played the game in almost 2 years

It's just like that in Prime 1 as well. I started it up again last week after I got to play my friends Metroid Prime 3, and after I confirmed that I got all the "one time scans", decided I will finally go after 100%. I got 98% now, and can't figure out where the last missle expansion is(I got a printout of locations, thought I had them all). This always happens, you get everything except for one thing, and then you have to figure out what you missed, so annoying....
But yeah, other than Zelda(CD-i doesn't count, cause they are so obscure), and possibly the main Mario platformers, it is hard to find a series that doesn't have a bad game like Metroid.
Even though I only played through it a couple of times, I think Metroid II doesn't get enough credit. The graphics are better than Metroid 1, the controls are better and improved, they actually did something slightly different gameplay wise(actually hunting the Metroids), the only real downside is the lack of a map, cause it's real easy to get lost.

I too really enjoy playing echoes. People complain that the levels aren't varied enough, but I think the way MP1 was done was kinda silly.
I mean, 5 areas that are a complete contrast of one another?
Bit weird.
I really love MP2. I only need 2 missile tanks and a few more scans to complete it fully.

I got Echoes for Christmas the year it came out, but my mom said I couldn't play it until I got at passing grades. (Which is anything higher than an F)
I played the hell out of it when I got my report card. (Just barely passed)
It was fun, if not a bit aggravating at certain points. I never finished it, though, so I'll probably pick it up again soon.

Well I feel dumb. I found the last missle tank last night, and it was the one in the place where you first get the bombs. When I was checking things off my list of places looked when going for 100%, I figured of course I had gotten that one, and never went to actually check whether it was true or not. Ah well, live and learn. And Metroid Prime really isnt' that hard, but then again, I had beaten him twice before, so maybe it's cause I remembered the pattern.
Who's hoping the rumored DS Metroid game which takes place after Fusion is real? I'm kinda annoyed they havent' actually advanced the story for a long time, but there have been long gaps between all of the 2D Metriods.

A new DS Metroid sounds intriguing. I really enjoyed Fusion, so I look forward to hearing more about this one.
