In 1986, the writers of the animated Transformers movie might have slaughtered a gallery of fan favourite characters, but they also introduced the likes of Hot Rod, Springer, Arcee, Ultra Magnus, Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge and Unicron who have all become extremely popular. In fact, one could argue that Hot Rod, Cyclonus and Scourge – along with Blurr and Kup – were so popular that Hasbro felt the need to re-release those Generation 1 figures again in 1987 as Targetmasters. So, they are in a way the first Transformers reissues. Having already looked at the new-for-87 characters that became Targetmasters (Autobots and Decepticons), this week we look at Targetmaster Hot Rod, Kup and Blurr, the 1987 Autobot Movie Targetmasters.

Another nice review, Maz. :) Out of those three, I only owned the original Blurr. Back then I didn't see the need to get another one of him just because of the new weapon. Ah, the times they have changed. ;)
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

If that counts as a reissue, I'd say so does the redo of the original 84 lineup with rubsigns, which long predate these. Just my opinion.

There were also things like the minibots being reissued with minispies before this..

Yeah I guess adding the minispies would count along the same lines, although just adding a rubsign would not to me constitute the same thing.

Anyway it's just a thought process I was enjoying exploring while writing the article, it's not the basis of the whole piece. On another forum it was mentioned that the GoodBye Megatron and Convoy sets could be considered earlier reissues as they were 1986 and featured new colours and pack-ins etc.
