Andrew Wildman to Attend Dutch Comic-Con, March 28-29, Utrecht
- Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
Fellow Seibertronian MarkNL has informed us not only of the confirmation of Dutch Comic Con for this coming March in Utrecht, but also of the presence of one of the bastions of earlier Transformers comics as guests: Andrew Wildman, artist on the original Marvel runs, War Within and ReGeneration One! Find out more about the event here, and read on below for a bio of the Marvel, Dreamwave and IDW artist.
Andrew Wildman
his work as an illustrator has been used in advertising and publishing but it is for his work in the field of comics that he is best known. Illustrating for books such as Transformers, The X-Men, Spider-Man and Venom with such acclaimed writers as Larry Hama, Peter David and Ralph Macchio has gained him a devoted fan base. Further work includes character and environment design and animated movie production for the TV and Video Games industries. Story boarding for the film Wing Commander and design and concept work on games The Mummy, Gunlok, Jesse James: Gunfighter, Delta Force, Largo Winch and Dredd v Death have created a presence within the computer games industry.

He's very gracious about robot commissions, and a lovely man all around. See if you can pick up his Horizon books, creator-owned, self-published introspective story about loss, grief and growing up. With some robots.

Bob Budiansky to attend East Coast Comicon April 11 and 12
- Motto: "I've looked into the eye of this island and what I saw was...beautiful"
- Weapon: Double-Barreled, Armor-Piercing Particle Beam Cann...
Bob Budiansky who worked on the Marvel Transformers comic will be attending East Coast Comicon at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, NJ on April 11 and 12. You can see all the guest information here.
East Coast Comicon wrote:During a 20-year career in the comic book industry, mostly at Marvel Comics, Bob Budiansky worked as an editor, illustrator, and writer. Although he edited titles like Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four, was the regular penciler on Ghost Rider for more than a year, and even created and wrote his own series, Sleepwalker, Bob is perhaps best known for the work he did on The Transformers.
Bob was the editor on the very first Transfomers mini-series in 1984. He followed up that hugely successful four-issue intro by scripting most of the next 50-plus issues of the monthly Transformers comic book. He also named, created character profiles of, and wrote Hasbro packaging copy for approximately 250 Transformers during the first six years of the brand’s existence, and developed story treatments as Hasbro introduced new lines of Transformers. And occasionally he even penciled a Transformers comic book cover or two.
Bob is no longer active in the comic book industry, but still produces art commissions based on his comic book work.

That is awesome. Will never understand how this man, who made such a mark on our beloved Transformers franchise, doesn't receive the same accolades as other writers associated with the brands fictional universe.I'm so jealous of the east coasters.

- Motto: "Till All Are Pun!"
Mairghread Scott, Transformers writer for IDW Publishing and the Robots in Disguise animated series, will be making an appearance this Saturday 2nd May at the Blastoff comics fest in Hollywood, California to celebrate this year's Free Comic Book Day! Find out more from her blog here, and below!
So this Saturday, I’ll be signing at Blastoff Comics Fest at the Federal Bar & Grill in North Hollywood, California from 10am to 4pm. This is going to be a great event with tons of comics creators signing, food, music, a beer garden, and of course free comics!
Free Comic Book Day is my second favorite day of the year, which means it didn’t beat out Yule, but it’s still super awesome! And Blastoff Comics is making it even more awesome with this blowout event.
Even if you aren’t in the North Hollywood area, you should definitely look for a Free Comic Book Day event in your area.

Obviously there is an extreme cultural difference that is fueling your sarcasm. South Florida has a heavy Latino population among other minorites that shun most collectiing hobbies. Most of the comic book shops, baseball card shops, vintage vinyl shops, and hobby shops closed years ago because they werent making enough money to cover the rent let alone make a profit. There are a few but not many. You have to go up further north where there is a larger population of white Americans who still embrace collecting. Its a cultural thing. If I asked you to go outside to your backyard and catch a dingo or koala, you would tell me I dont know a thing about your part of Australia. Same thing here about Miami.

The link provided above shows a minimum of ten shops. I count 5 in the Miami area, 14 between Fort Lauderdale and Leisure City (96 km, more or less). An extra two are listed as permanently closed in the Miami area.
By comparison, central London, UK, has four shops, one fewer than Miami.
Stores in Miami participating in the Free Comic Book Day initiative are the following (found via this):
Games of Gauntlet
Mac's Comics and Collectables
Korka Comics
Movie Stop Store
Superheroes Unlimited
No special Transformers events, but there is the issue #0 of the Robots in Disguise series as part of the free books on offer.

Cool thanks. Ill have to check them out. None of them are super close, but alot closer than west palm beach county. Im not really a comic guy, but hobby shops sell a lot of cool stuff.
On a separate note, what did you tech guys do before the internet? Theres a large number of social people like myself who still live by word of mouth. Dont get me wrong, if I hear about something locally and want to know more Ill "google it". But if the word on the street is that it doesnt exist locally, I generally go off that.

The internet came into my house when I was a teenager. I usually take recommendations by friends and acquaintances, and double check location/accessibility with a quick search.
Word of mouth is just a starting point. And we're already on the internet.
