Hey all,
I recently found a Transformers G1 Seasons 1-4 tin Box set on ebay for roughly fifty bucks. The thing is, it comes from China.
http://tinyurl.com/yljrqawDoes anyone know about this? Are these pirated DVDs or this thing the real deal? I'm really tempted to buy the set (metal boxes make me drooool) but I don't want to get ripped off and be stuck with a crappy set.

IIRC, It's the Chinese release of
Rhino's box set (
warts and all), so it's not a bootleg per se, but it's
not an official US release (i.e., no money goes to Rhino, Hasbro et al), so keep that in mind.

Interesting. A re-release of the Rhino footage? That's weird.
Transformersdvdcollection.com is selling the set here in the USA. I was under the impression that the episodes had been digitally remastered or re-colored like the upcoming "matrix box set" just packaged differently. Time to do some more digging I guess!

I have that set, and it's very good. If I remember right there is one or two episodes in season three that got a little funky, but it's pretty brief. If you don't want to splurge on the Matrix of Leadership box set then I definitely recommend this set.

Cool! Thanks for the input.
Is there anything I should know about ordering a dvd from China? Aside from the (I'm assuming) long wait period for it to arrive, will the US Customs be on my back for something I haven't thought about?

Other than the wait (1-3 weeks) I haven't had any problems ordering toys or DVDs from either China.
Well, that and someone has to be home to sign for the package when it does show up, otherwise you'll get the "Sorry we missed you" card, which means a trip to the Post Office.

I bought that set and it was the first time I ever watched a G1 episode. I thought the set was great. It came with a keychain and postcards and a book style cd folder that was very nice. No problems at all with mine. Also it is fun to turn on the Japanese voices and English subtitles. It also has the 1984 movie included.
