well should there be humans in the next transformers series? yes or no!
here is my opinion: i would like to see a war within series with no humans, on cybertron all the time, maybe visit an alien planet from time to time.

Minor or no human numbers. G1 was fine with a small number of human cast, but a pre-Earth or post-Earth (since at the time of the japanese BWs, Earth was devastated) story would be awesome.

There will be humans a plenty in the new Ongoing, pick up Last Stand of the Wreckers for off-world goodness.
In a place such as this, you are the perfect prey for a brest animal!

Definately less humans. Don't limit the TF Universe by dilly-dallying on Earth all the time. There are so many side-stories that could be explored, like the Third Faction. Possibilities are endless if there's no limits.

G1 had humans for something to do for 2 seasons. if it wasn't for saving people there would only have been half as many episodes. Season 3 only had like 5 humans all season but its also the least liked season t oalot of people
It really depends on the tone of the series, and a lot of other factors.
but humans can't be more annoying than the a/e/c trilogy (since Sari WAS a robot

Re: humans or not?
Personally, I like to see Transformers in Transformers.
Aliens can be just as annoying as humans in Transformers. Remember the cosmic carnival in the Marvel Comics? Also Matrix Quest didn't heat up until the Jazz and co. tussled with Thunderwing. Don't get me started on Kremzeek. And I'm not a fan of any version of Wreck-gar.
When I see characters like the Trilogy humans and Animated's Professor Princess and Angry Archer, I'm filled with revulsion.
Some humans are well portrayed like Marvel Spike, especially when he bonds with Fort Max or Sari or Verity and co. But for the most part, TF human characters are awful. That flatmate in ROTF almost ruined the whole film.
War Within and Beast Wars were pretty much pure TF's and were better for it. Though the Vok are cool. However, Beast Machines is proof that a solely TF series isn't necessarily going to be great. And Energon Ironhide and the Movie Twins prove that TF characters can royally suck too.
It really comes down to the writing. Personally, I want good stories like Target 2006 and Agenda and good characters, but with the main focus on the TF's. If not for the awful human villains, Animated could have been the best series. They done the Bots perfectly.
Just keep garbage like Professor Princess, Carlos and Primacron out of it.

i always felt that humans are important in transformers to help give give us a sense of size on how big these robots are. it is so easy to forget that they are 30-50 feet tall. besides, they turn into vehicles, what's the fun if no one uses them?

Re: humans or not?
I think the main problem with Human characters is that most of the time in a story that mainly about two groups of giant robots fighting eachother, they do absolutly nothing to advance the plot along.
There have been a few human characters who have proved to either be valuable allies or formitable enemys but most of them are worthless pieces of trash that do nothing but waist valuable screen time.
Examples of what are in my opinion good human characters: Any G1 human with a transforming exso suit. The group of humans from G1 who turned Rodimus, Magnus, Springer, and Arcee into humans. Kicker, while he may be annoying his ability to detect Energon at least made him somewhat usefull. Sam, who managed to kill Megatron and then found the Matrix. And a few of the Animated villains, namely Meltdown, Slo Mo, and Headmaster.
Granted a few of these characters could have been done better such as Headmaster but they did actully contribute to the plot where as most G1 humans, All of the kids in Armada and Cybertron, and everyone else in Animated did preddy much nothing.
Basically a good human ally should be able to help the Autobots in some way not just talk about helping and insted of actully doing anything usefull only end up needing to get saved. I'd sugest bringing back the transforming exso suits from G1.
A good human villain should be able to actully pose a threat to a giant robot which is really only possible if they have exso suits but sence the Decepticons aren't as into working with humans as the Autobots I doubt they'd fork out the technoligy so the next best thing is humans with super powers, I.E. Meltdown. OK I love Meltdown, would be great to see another incarnation of him in another series. Not neccisarily with the same personality but just haveing thoughs powers makes him a huge threat to the Transformers.

Very good points Windsweeper!
Let's also not forget that even in TF Season 3, where there were fewer humans we had other species fill in like the Skuxxoids (annoying reptile guy in Starscream's Ghost epsisode) that left me missing good Human villians like Dr. Arkeville.
LOL I'm also glad I'm not the only one who couldn't stand Energon Ironhide!

Re: humans or not?
The things with human characters is that I usually find their ages inappropriate. 10 year olds in hanging out with interstellar war machines just seems wrong, and teenagers isn't much better. That being said, adult characters make things less over all appealing to kids. Using a family where at least one of them are relevant to the Autobots cause is best way to go in my opinion, such as a mechanic helping out a team of Autobots without a proper medic. Kinda like Sparkplug from G1 on a team without a Wheeljack or Ratchet.
And something about having common sense enough to not let his kids go with the Autobots into combat, which Sparkplug was (imo) notorius about neglecting.

I was under the impression that NO ONE liked Energon Ironhide but I think that's mainly to do with the fact that his head is allways clearly visable in vehicle mode.

No humans. They just suck the good things out of Transformer stories. Look how 'great' the human-based storylines of the new movies have proven to be: the humans exist to make drug-related mistakes and act stupidly. The A/E/C kids were awful. If I get giant sentiant robots, that's what I want, not humans. Stormbringer did it wonderfully, why can't we get more stories like that?

Oh thanks a lot N_V. Don't you know the universal rule of these sorts of absolute statements? Now, just for spite, any new series is going to involve totally irritating, mandatorily diversely-ethnic preteens.
When it happens, I'm comin' for ya. With my brickbat.

Re: humans or not?
Oh why did Stormbringer get mentioned? Am I the only one who hated that story? Apart from his first appearance in the cartoon and the Christmas UK story, I've always disliked Jetfire. I find he's mostly portrayed as a pain in the aft knowall along with Perceptor and Wheeljack. I didn't think I could hate Wheeljack more until Animated gave him that stupid beard.
So having Jetfire as a main character in Stormbringer was a real turnoff for me along with the new interpretation of Pretenders. Marvel made Thunderwing a great villain who was all the more interesting for having an affinity for the Matrix and showing concern for hs troops.
Sorry if I'm off topic, I just see red when Stormbringer gets mentioned. As far as I'm concerned, it's another example of a not so great TF-only series. Pity because I've always loved the Technobots.
