Not really. Only the toys bear resemblance, but in movies/cartoons Magnus has always been induvidual...I beleive.

NO, no. I mean his design from the movie kinda sorta resembles Ultra Magnus WITH his armor on. Think about it - look at the color scheme (which I guess to him, movie Optimus, being blue wtih RED flames as opposed to being Red with BLUE FLAMES.)
Then look how his windows were obviously smaller and look at Magnus's chest.

Maybe its just me and a coincidence in design, because while I was watching the movie I was Prime's look almost makes you think of Ultra Magnus a bit.

Movie Prime had both. There are blue flames at the front end and then red flames near the cab.

Honestly, I think Prime always looks like Magnus. Even in G1 they look similar and, to a lesser extent, even in RiD.

He means with the armor on. Because armored Magnus is still a truck with some red and blue and he's got these pilons on his shoulders, a blue helmet and a matrix compartment.
