Classics Line Question
Alright... I haven't held a transformer since the mid 1980's when I was a kid. Somewhere along the line, my parents gave away most of my childhood toys to other neighborhood kids who were younger than me to ensure they got played with, I suppose.
Nowadays, I'm feeling nostalgic. Earlier in the year, a few Classics line figures caught my eye (namely Starscream and Rodimus). Sadly, I passed them up as I was saving money for my soon to be born child.
Last month, I was at Target and bought the Magnus/Skywarp exclusive set on clearance and was instantly readdicted. The Classics line is what I wanted my toys to be when I was little. They have better articulation and generally look better as both vehicles and robots.
I've bought Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Prime, Megatron, Jetfire, and Mirage. I enjoy them all. Obviously, I am now kicking myself for passing up Rodimus, Starscream, and Astrotrain.
Is all hope lost? I would assume that since the movie toys are out now that the Classics line would be terminated. Am I wrong?
The only place I can find Starscream and Rodimus now is eBay where people who bought in bulk are now making a killing selling these two figures for 2-3 times their original cost.
Locally, I've perused two Walmarts, two Targets, two K-Marts, Boscovs, a TRU, and a KB. The only stores still carrying any Classics figures are the TRU (had a Jetfire and Prime...I bought the Jetfire) and the K-Marts (have Mirage, Prime, and Megs). The K-Marts are in terrible shape, though...looks like bombs went off in the toy section.

Re: Classics Line Question
I prob should have stated for the record that I am located in Pennsylvania, USA...in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Looking around a bit more, I see that this is a very international forum. Cool. While my location gives me the chance to hit a bunch of stores in a short time, I also apparently have a lot of competition.
The Magnus/Skywarp combo I have was the only one left in the store when I saw it. I picked it up and my first thought was: "Hmm...that UM looks a lot like Prime...but that Skywarp is awesome!" I almost did my normal...which is to put down the toy and convince myself I have more important things to spend my money on. My wife is actually reason I got it...she looked at me and said: "Why don't you just buy something for yourself already. And, that's even on clearance so just get it." Little did she know it would, a month later, send me into a toy hunting frenzy.
I like some of the movie figures, so I've grabbed a few of those, too. My love of real helicopters led me to get both the Desert Combo pack and an individual Blackout. I'll probably just set the combo pack on the shelf, but the single Blackout is currently overseeing the living room from our bookcase.
Thanks for the replies so far....

Ben

I may order the Jetfire off hasbro site, but wondering where else classics may be. So. Cali seems to be depleted of good transformers, all the rich kids buying them up -_-;; im kicking myself too when i passed up Rodimus and such before... =[ time to pay the price... literally lol

i ended up buying all the classics figures online for the most part. never got astrotrain... didn't know if i wanted him all the much... but now i wish i'd picked him up when i had the chance. i'll wait till i have more money and an inking to get him. otherwise what started me on the classics line was hot rod. i saw him in the stores and passed him up while my cousin bought starscream. i went home and kicked myself for not getting good ole rodimus so i ended up buying him off amazon.

Astrotrain and Rodimus may still be around in some areas of the country, but, with Starscream, you'll probably just have to pony up the $$$. He was immensely popular not only with collectors, but kitbashers as well.
Do you have any small comic/toy conventions in your area? There are a couple that go on monthly here. They are usually good places to find lines that are on their way out of retail.
You'll probably have to pay a cover, but it still may save you money in the long run.

I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

Believe it or not, my Wal-Mart is STILL retocking Classics. Just last week they had THREE starscreams. I went in this weekend and they'd put out Rodimus X2, Astrotrain X2, 1 Grimlock and about 10 cliffjumpers and several Mirages. The Megatron VS Optimus DVD set has also increased from 3 to 8 over the weekend.
But while every other Wal-Mart around put them on sale and cleared them out shortly after the movie toys hit, this wal mart has never put them on clearance and they're still in the TF section on pegs, right next to the movie line.
A Wal-Mart about 30 miles away that my friend went to just put out an entire endcap of the Devestator box set, had her pick that up.
Just by going to my Wal Mart and a K-Mart and 1 item from Ebay, plus the devestator set from my friend I've completed the entire classics line in about 2 months. Well, all of them except for the damn BotCon exclusives. Guess I'll try and pick those up if the price goes down any.

I would try the online stores first, before resorting to ebay.
Stores like hasbrotoyshop.com & bigbadtoystore.com
Because you may pay a little extra than if you found a toy in a "real" store, but you probably won't get ripped off like you might on ebay.
But that's just my opinion. Good luck!

Try hasbro toy shop they might still have them although I'm not sure. Also as far as on line toy stores go big bad toy store somtimes has them.

You know, I'm in the same boat as you man. I just got back into collecting transformers toys again recently(I still have all of my G1 and G2 figures, but I stopped shortly after beastwars). The classics line was the reason I became interested in them again, although it seems I'm a little too late. I've been having all sorts of trouble finding Starscream (duh), Jetfire, Rodimus, and Grimlock. I've checked all of the toy stores around my area (wal-mart, target, tru, k-mart) with no luck. And online is no different with the exception of ebay and amazon, but they go for rediculous prices on both sites. Hopefully I'll get lucky on ebay or something though.

thats what im hoping, but everywhere i go, its all the Movie Toys, and i dont really wanna collect them right now. the Hasbro toy shop online has Jetfire, Optimus Prime, BB, cliffjumper, mirage, and ramjet. They still have the Rodimus and Astrotrain links up, but out of stock, so i hope they restock them. Before jetfire wasnt therer, but they restocked him a couple of days ago, so i hope they do so with the other ones. =]
i guess to find them again in stores, have to wait for movie toys line to stop, and wait for classics 2.0 to come out or something.
Im also still in the hunt for Alternators, so if anyone knows where to get some, that be some great help =]

This was announced at the beginning of July, Classics will be continued next year but will be changed to Transformers Universe. Confirmed as of now are Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Ironhide and a few others.

That's cool that it's being continued, but I still wanna know if it's possible that the previously released figured will be released again or I just need to order Grimlock from one of the price gougers online.

also, i have found at wal-mart, these toys have sometimes been moved to a whole second toy section, the clearance section. while the one i have here in town is not actually discounting them, it keeps them away from clogging up the movie toy, and other "current" toys section...but also keeps them away from other hunters....

Classics are awesome, I got'em all except for Cliffjumper(a lazy repaint) and Voyager Megatron who I want but can't find.
I love Deluxe Megs though.

Actually, having Cliffjumper in your hands feels different--the paint scheme actually seems to work for the mold better than Bumblebee. Yes, they should have given him a new head, but I wouldn't pass up such a cool little TF...
