Well what about Frank Welkner who did G1 Megatron. He should get just the same respect as Peter. I prefer his voice over all the megatron voices because he is the original. If i was Frank i would be voicing my opinion. I wish the would do a re-edited Transformers movies with Franks voice instead of Hugo Weaving and add the Corresponding Transformers Theme song somewhere in the movies. And u call yourselves transformers fans. I am the biggest fan in the world and i don't like it when people trample on my childhood dream.

Cool story about the Marine's pin, and about his brother's influence on the voice. I never knew that. Peter is quality people.
Wow, really? Well I guess we should all just shut up, huh.

I'm hoping there's a DOTM scene where Optimus' cab pulls up and you see Peter Cullen as his holographic driver...With shades!

I've been compiling a scale list (largest to smallest) of the Film Transformers based on; vehicle/alternate modes (with the best dimension data possible), as many official charts I could find & most crucially, the figures I actually own & desire! If anyone would like a bit of assistance in scale or would simply like a peek at the list, do say so! ^^
(Also been working on something big; I'm a writer, so that's a clue...

I've seen some VA's who take the fame to their heads... and it's not pretty.
Always been a fan of Peter's from the moment I heard him play Montery Jack in the old Chip n' Dale show. It's great to know that he gets into the fandom and is humbled as well. Would love to meet him in person one day!
And that thing he told about his little grandson made me go "awwwwww!!" I've got a nephew who's into TF as much as I am so that warmed my heart

Just because we don't all favor the same Transformers / voice actors doesn't mean we're not all Transformers fans. Personally, I like Kaye better as Megatron, but that's just my opinion

Yeah I'm really happy Peter Cullen voices Optimus in the movies; I've always liked Gary Chalk because of BW and Armada, but Cullen's voice is just too classic and irreplaceable to me. As for Welker's voice for Megatron, I prefer his new deeper voice on TF: Prime more than his original high pitched one and I think Hugo Weaving was a great choice for Movie Megs. Of course David Kaye's voice is also great, yeeessssss...

Yeah, that's what I was hoping to read here when I saw that image along with the headline. I hope with all my heart that Peter gets a cameo in this film, especially if it really is the last one. I'm sure it would mean the world to him, as well as to his fans. Any kind of cameo would do, but Prime's holographic driver would be ideal. That would be completely epic.

Interesting read but they should've talked about how the voice of prime has changed over the years and why.
not only was he mentioned in the article but when ever Welker is brought up to any VA they have nothing but respect and admiration for him. If you think about it Welker probably gets the most respect compared to any VA cause of all the iconic rolls hes done. Granted i do get pissed off just as much as then next guy when a new TF series comes out & prime has to be cullen but Megatron and every one else can be who evers on the payroll but thats besides the point. The fans wanted Welker as Megatron and what do you know he is once again. What we need to bitch about is how Michael Bell hasent been in TF in a long time, he voiced just as many characters as wleker and burton but hes been left out. What needs to be done is blum needs to take a vacation and more veteran VAs from G1 & Beast Wars need to be brought back in. Im all up for voicing opinions god knows i do my fair share of it but before you do read more and do research so you dont look like a whiny jackass.

For many fans who went to BotCon meeting Peter Cullen was one of the highlights of the convention. Thanks to a CNN article about the man behind the voice of Optimus Prime, we get to find out what he thinks of Botcon too, from his first in 1997:
Cullen also discusses reprising his most famous role for the big screen movies as well as appearing opposite Frank Welker once again in Transformers: Prime. He even talks about his own personal Optimus Prime toy!
The article also talks with fellow Prime cast member and veteran voice actor Steve Blum who discusses how fun it is to play villains like Starscream.
Thanks go to CNN iReporters and Seibertronians Shaun Martens, Kevin Farren, Cody Helms who point out in the article that the best place to find Transformers news and good conversation with other collectors and fans is our very own Seibertron.com.
The full article can be found on CNN here.
"I was taken aback by the response and the sheer love that was in the audience," he said.
"It became quite evident that (voicing this character) was a responsibility that I wanted to fulfill. I had no idea he was so popular."

So the big guy has an Optimus Prime created specifically for him? Interesting... Wonder if we can get images of it?

Ah man, guess I might as well give up then. Anyone interested in taking almost every Transformers comic off my hands, since evidently I'm not a fan because I prefer the comics to the cartoons?
It's statements like this that earned us the reputation as the worst fandom out there a few years ago. I'd really hoped we'd outgrown that finally.

'When the producers of "Transformers: Prime" began casting, they knew that it was very important to get Cullen to play Optimus once again... and along with that, they felt strongly that they needed to get the original Megatron, Frank Welker, as well.
"Those two guys love each other," said executive producer Jeff Kline. "They're so obviously happy together that you get better stuff from the cast. That stamp of approval on what we were doing went a long way with the fan community, as well." '
It's a pity Bay & Co. lacked this insight.

For sale: My entire Transformers and third-party collection. Includes Masterpiece, Generations, Universe, Movie, Prime, Armada/Energon/Cybertron, G1, G2, a few Japanese imports, etc. Many never opened, the rest displayed in enclosed display cases to keep the dust off. A few ads on Craigslist/OfferUp for DC/MD/VA locals, will post on boards or ebay when I have time.

Kind of a bold statement, isn't it?
There are plenty other true fans out there with different likes and dislikes about all of the TF fandom.
Just because your opinion varies that does not mean that you are right. It is simply "what you think of it" and some may agree or disagree.
And just a FYI you sound extremely arrogant with this statement. Next time before you post something as silly as this, type the post up, minimize the browser, walk away from the computer for a few minutes, come back and re-read what you posted. s
Sometimes we post out of sheer passion and let our emotions get in the way of reason.
Oh and it was a cool article too..

Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Can someone tell me who the heck Frank WelkNER is?

I'm surprised no one else has noticed this. THe thing about Frank though is that, even though his voicing of Megsy is iconic, he's had roles that are much more iconic to the general populace- most notably as Freddie in virtually every Scooby Doo ever made; I suggest looking up his IMDC...the list is frickin HUGE. For Peter Cullen however, Optimus is his truly defining role and the one that everyone knows him for...especially with the success of the Bay movies in popular culture. Frank may be Megatron for us fans (and pretty much just to us fans), but Peter IS Optimus Prime to a much larger portion of the populace.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

If you watched Voltron you should recognize Cullens voice from the intro.
But you are correct, Welker is not dubbed the man of 1000 voices for nothing..
