does the paint job of a TF toy affects your purchasing decision?
imagine getting a TF toy with the wrong color or an ugly paint job, does it prompt you to buy another figure when the money blood suckers announce to re-release the same figure with the correct and superior paint job? do think you it's a waste of money to many versions of the same figure because you later found out it's even better looking than the ones and makes them look like crap on the shelve. well the whole i decided to get mp-04, because there's just too many differences in terms of paint jobs and extras. the paint jobs are just slick, and the extras is the actual trailer as oppose to the bare-bone dvd prime, the only extra for it is the base.

I'm not gonna lie, while I typicallly stick to a strict rule of only getting one of a certain mold, I have seen certain repaints as reason enough to break my rule... for example if I'm a big fan of a figure, but feel that it's design could have easily warranted a reapint as an homage to another character, if said repaint comes out, I'm liable to buy it as well. Other times I may pass on a mould simply because the colours suck, only to have it released later in a colourscheme I like and then I buy it...

It can do. If I already have one of a mould, but I see another that is a good homage to a G1 character, then I will buy him.

As with anything like this... it depends.
If, for example, the Classics Seekers had come out as a general release thing, I'd have snatched them all up in a heartbeat.
I already have regular Deluxe Jazz, and will likely be picking up the G1 repaint, too.
But I chose Ransack GTS over regular Ransack, and Smokescreen over Crosswise (Cybertron) - not for nostalgia reasons, but because I liked the look better.

Yarr, I only get one of a mold. And only molds I like. And the colour scheme must be good. I was after the Tidal Wave mold, but Armarda and Energon had crap colours, so I didn't. I found teh Micron Legends purple version, and he now stands wielding the Megatron that came with 20th Prime.
The closest to a repaint I have is the Alt mazda and subaru. Same transformation (basically) but I wanted to kitbash the subaru into a new guy.
I am tempted to get 2 cl SS to accompany the one I repainted into Skywarp (obviously repainting one into TC), but I dont think I will.
So aye, colour scheme will affect if I buy, because I only buy the odd one and must be perfect.

Damn Dinobot
Damn him and his many recolours - never quite getting it right and then releasing a slightly more correct version
Damn me for being stupid enough to fall for it everytime

I quite often end up with a few versions of the same mould. I've got most of the repaints of the Armada Decepticon deluxes and they look good grouped up as army builders. It gets worse though. If its a 'multiple' character I'll consider getting multiples of the exact same toy. Currently I'm after half a dozen Tit Scourges to go on my Classics shelf and if Encore continues and sees the Insecticons released again I'd quite happily pick up an extra four sets to display in bug mode with the bookbox versions that I've already got displayed in robot mode (the clone army was only ever shown in bug mode in the cartoons).

For toys like the Scrap Metals and Energon Terrorcons, I like the repaints as you can build up drone armies.
I would love to see the Robotmaster seeker mold redone in the colour scheme of my sig so I could build an army of seeker drones. The colour scheme I have is based on some of the background seekers from the cartoon. Always thought it would be cool to get drones of the seekers ala the Cobra Troopers and Crimson Guards in GI Joe so you could give Megatron his legions.
Colour schemes only bother me when I think the mold looks like it could have been a homage to an older character but a different colour scheme was used.
For example I would have loved to see Energon Divebomb repainted as Banzai-tron and Cybertron Clocker/Swerve repainted as Hot Rod. I know it's a bit more of a stretch with the Swerve/Hot Rod thing but they have the arm mounted exhausts and the head reminds me of the G2 comic pics of Hot rod.

So many times I passed on originals in cybertron only to buy a great looking repaint. Nemesis Breaker, Ransack GTS, Override GTS, Swerve, Galvatron, Excellion, Dark Crumplezone. . . so paint schemes are incredibly important to my liking a figure.

It's incredibly important to me.
There's just some diarrhea colors that make me never buy certain Transformers.
Olive, brown, forget it.
Worse yet, when I do find a fig I like, I often miss it, as after studying the paintjobs of all sitting on the shelf, they're usually so craptastic that I wait to see a second shipment.
Second shipments rarely come these days... if at all.

with me it comes down to two rules
1. Character is paramount, even if its a repaint. If I like the character I get the fig (Classics Cliffjumper, Skywarp)
2. If character don't count, aesthetics comes into play. I go for the better paint job. (Nemesis Breaker > Leobreaker)
however, if its a bad fig, its a bad fig. Neither character nor paint can sway my mind.
