I have two Optimus Prime trucks, one original (gray)) and one black. The cabs of these trucks seem to be virtually identical except the color of the legs (one is blue, the other is a darker blue or purple). Is there a date on these anywhere or another way to figure out which cab goes with which trailer? In case it isn't painfully obvious, I'm new to the Transformers game, and your help will be greatly appreciated.

If the black trailer looks like this one, then the matching figure should have this marking on the back of its right leg. This is Generation 2 Optimus Prime.
