That's why I found the entire episode incredibly stupid. I just hope next weeks season final does something to make this last episode meaningful.

I'm interested to see where they're going with this, I just kinda wish we hadn't had to take the long way around WITH him. Definitely left me with more questions than answers, but I'm looking forward to next week.

Why was he punching it? Surely using that spade would have made more of an impact? And if every room reset when he left, why didn't room 12 also reset and the barrier get fixed?
I was enjoying the mystery of the episode until the revelation. Then the whole thing just fell apart. Although the episode also felt way too much like an episode of Sherlock with the whole mind TARDIS safe place thing. If next week is as great as the teaser suggested, I'll forgive the stupidity of this one.

That's what I thought.

That's how I've been feeling about a lot of the episodes lately... they start out promising, but then the end doesn't seem as one would like. The plot twists or reveals tend to happen rather suddenly and with little explanation, leaving an underwhelming or confusing episode.
Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but the episodes lose me sometimes.

well i believe this confirms that the Doctor is no longer gender locked(ie he HAS to turn into yet another male in one of his future regenerations) so one day...& if someone wanted to do so....they could take it in that general direction......that we may see a female Doctor!
i think Moffat says it best!

I have a question; do we actually need a female doctor? I'm not saying that if it ever happened that I'd stop watching but what's the reasons for a gender swap? I'm not talking in universe stuff but what development reasons could there be? A lot of things the doctor does could be done by either gender so why talk if change when it's all just window dressing?

Because it's never been done before.
I've seen people vow to never watch it if they regenerate him into a her, I'm on the fence. Personally I think it will be detrimental to the show.
Why mess with what works? Peter Capaldi is doing a great job, let's keep him around for as long as possible and then replace him with Sean Pertwee.

To be honest, I really don't like the gender swapping regenerations. I don't know what exactly is putting me off about it, but it just doesn't sit right with me.
SPOILERS FOR THE LAST EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I absolutely HATE that we lost that awesome actor General. He was a cracking actor, and he got replaced by someone with zero screen presence. And a gender swap one at that.

Same here. It's not that I hate female characters--I very vehemently don't--but the idea of a Lady Doctor doesn't feel right to me, and I don't know why.
We got a new Sonic Screwdriver, though, so there's that.

It felt like we barely had him. I would have liked to have seen more of him. Instead, we get Moffat telling us "Time Lords can not only change race, they can change gender too! Look!". ugh.
And he didn't even have the balls to leave Clara dead. Now she's out there pretending to be a Doctor herself and at some point she'll no doubt reappear so she can die properly or have her time line fixed. ugh.
While the season finale was a step up from the previous week, it had a lot of potential but fell short.
The whole season ... fantastic acting from Capaldi (really REALLY liking him as The Doctor), a number of great stories, but the last two episodes really let the rest of the season down.

I agree with how this season has gone. Love how capaldi has performed, he now needs an assistant that fits better with him, or a couple of assistants. Clara being brought back is a cop out, it would of been better if she has stayed dead.

I demand a replica of the new screwdriver. I mean... I know we're going to get one eventually anyway, but I want it, like... right now.

Don't we all! but unlike the Doc....unfortunately we don't have access to a Tardis where we can travel forward in time to it's release....where we could acquire such an item with immediate effect.(which would be stupid! coz if we access to a Tardis....it would create one anyway! which negates the need to travel forward in time to acquire one).

That was a VERY enjoyable Christmas special, and for once, an episode with River Song I actually enjoyed.
Fun story, great performance from Capaldi who was clearly having fun (and it was fun to see him be "blown away" by the interior of the Tardis).
All in all, great Christmas special. Now begins the long wait ...
