I can't imagine Action Masters being much better as Masterpieces.

Pricing has a lot to do with it- I'm likely skipping Sideswipe for instance unless he gets a significantly lower price for the US release. Soundwave I may have to bite the bullet because you know, it's Soundwave

I don't have any interest in anything outside of G1. Not that other lines aren't any good, it's just that G1 is what I grew up with and I never really followed any other story lines.
The only G1 masterpiece figures that I won't collect are the ones like Gold Prime, Silver Prime, Transparent Prime or any other unnecessary use of the same mold. (where these different characters? Did we see them in the show/comic? Why are they being made?)
I figure repaints of seeker mold are ok, as long as they are producing actual characters that existed on the show or in the comics.
I won't buy Albino prime (MP-02 Ultra Magnus) because I want the Whole character.
I will buy the rumored new Ultra Magnus (MP-10 cab mold) as ONLY IF it comes with trailer armor.

The Insecticons would be a bit rubbish as would Ratchet and Ironhide, the new movie versions are much better. not keen on the MP rodimus prime for some reason in robot mode, i would probably buy most of the rest if money wasnt an issue and a bigger house to keep them in

Why not? They'd be the ones that would most benefit from the MP treatment. They could actually transform, even ignoring the upscale and detailing. The only real difference I see between them and non-AM MPs would be paint detailing and the addition of their AM partners, which would also be MPed.Geminii wrote:I can't imagine Action Masters being much better as Masterpieces.

The only MP fig I would never dream of buying is Rodimus Prime. I've never liked the character in the '86 movie and subsequent TV series. He was a pale shadow of Optimus, and his presence in place of OP just pisses me off every time I see him.
That said, I'm open to modern versions of him, i.e. his Classics and Binaltech toys. The space Winnebago and pseudo-futuristic car mode do nothing for me, though. Come to think of it, I'm not a fan of his bot mode either.
Another one would be Grimlock. As much as I like his bot mode, the inaccurate T-Rex mode just puts me off. To be honest, I WOULD buy him if I had extra funds and were just aching for some plastic crack. But if I had to choose between him and, say, MP-10, it'd be MP-10 hands down.

If you're going by the G1 cartoon, it's not an inaccurate portrayal, since Wheeljack modeled Grimlock's dino mode after what humans in the 80s perceived a T-Rex would look like, rather than what a T-Rex actually looked like.SKYWARPED_128 wrote:Another one would be Grimlock. Hope that helped.
Edit: Though he's not in scale with MP-10 on, I'd wait till he's rereleased with another couple centimeters added to his height.

Yeah, I've read articles on why his G1 design looks like an 80's Mecha-Godzilla costume. A CDX review even has it that it was Takara's (ergo the Japanese's) fault for having an outdated understanding of dinosaur anatomy--supposedly, US archeologists have already dispelled the belief of T-Rex standing upright and leaving its tail on the ground by the mid 80's--don't quote me on this, though, I'm just recalling this based off of my memory of the article. Since the G1 cartoon character was modeled after the Japanese toy as almost all G1 TF's were, it had to retain the old look.
Either way, I just can't stand the look of it.
Keeping hope alive for a Masterpiece version of FOC Grimlock in the far-off future.

Wheelie.
Only because of the Daniel figure that will inevitably be packaged with him. Truth be told, I don't know who I despise more.

Yes, MP Grimlock dino mode IS an accurate portrayal of the cartoon and that's why I bought it. A scary dino version like Classics would also be cool.

He's not in scale with ANY Masterpiece. I'm surprised no-one like iGear has done an upscale version.

I would never buy the Mastepiece Coronation Sunstorm. It's not that it doesn't look cool... it's mostly because it doesn't make any sense in continuity with the movie. Someday I will own a real Coronation Starscream. X3
I just recently purchased the Masterpiece Ghost Starscream for my birthday. He is awesome.

I agree with you on the fact that Sunstorm never had a coronation. I'm probably not going to get him because I've always thought of him as a mere color production error, rather than an actual character.
I imagine Skywarp and Thundercracker will be released the same way, but I'd get Cracker due to the fact Hasbro hasn't released him prior anyway. But I would display him without the coronation set (ugh..)

I wouldn't be opposed to getting the regular Sunstorm. He actually had a pretty cool small storyline in the Dreamwave comics where they went deeper into his origin as a crazy Starscream clone(which gave him a lot more credibility as a character than in G1). But yeah I haven't heard anything about them making Coronation versions of Thundercracker and Skywarp... that would be just as strange.
I always assumed that the Coronation set could be placed on the Skywarp or Thundercracker MP. I haven't actually broken down and bought the set yet to try out on my Ghost Starscream so I don't know how mold specific it is. :/
