Okay today i was walking my dog, she's a pit bull mix and some bech came up to me screaming in my face about how vicious my dog was and that she'll snap just like that when im not looking, but when i asked her if she'd ever owned one she said "Watch the news!" I don't depend on the news to tell me wtf is going on, most of the news is media fed bull anyways. did you know most "pit bulls" on the news are labs or mastiff types or other bull dog types, some are even hound breeds. I've done my research for years, pit bulls are very difficult to train i do admit, but realise this, THEY ARE TERRIERS!!!! A terrier is very hyper and no matter the size they are strong. Pit bulls do not have "lock jaws" that was proven in a study in a Georgia University besides, if the jaws locked, like tetanus disease, they WOULD NEVER OPEN AGAIN! A bite is measured by weight, they will not ever lock! There are some rumors that this breed "snaps" they are "unpredictable" to some i guess, no, bad owners are the result of a bad dog, dogs learn behavior from thier owners, also beating a dog can make the dog fight back, if you dont fix your dog even if a human female is in her menstrual period it can make the dog believe she is in "heat" and will make the dog far more protective at the time. Leaving a dog in a yard, ignoring it can make the dog protective of it's territory and can innitiate attack if someone gets close to the yard, loving the dog too much can make a dog feel like it is head of the home and if another member of the family tries to "rise above" the dog, just like a wolf pack, the dog will attack whom ever he thinks is below him. Pit bulls were bred to protect homes and this is one thing people need to get straight, PIT BULLS WERE TRAINED TO FIGHT AND KILL OTHER DOGS, NOT PEOPLE IF A PIT BULL IN A RING BIT A HUMN HE WAS IMMEDIATLY PUT DOWN!!!! Pit bulls were at one time America's #1 dog in the late 19th and 20th century, now look at what we as people have done to the breed. Now we have to fight stupid laws just to keep our dogs. I have been bitten by small dogs and i've been attacked by 2 golden retrievers, NEVER BEEN ATTACKED BY A PIT BULL, i was raised around pit bulls. So yeh i'll defend them and every other "so-called-mean-breed" out there. Please don't believe the news in fact, when you see a report on the news call them and ask them why is that news and why isn't a golden retriever attack news as well, I was met with a "its not news" when i told them about my incident.
I don't think goldens are vicious and they should die, i would consider getting one but i'll be breeding pit bulls so i kinda can't lol.

In any case, when the media reports a dog attack, it's usually one of the bigger breeds, like pit bulls, rottwielers, dobermans and such. I have no doubt that news outlets pick these stories due to appearance and reputation. How often have you heard a news story whose headline was "Man Attacked by pet Chihuahua?"

I used to work at a vet, and when I first started, I will admit that I was nervous about working with the breeds that often make the news - again, Rotties, dobermans, pit bull, the like. However, the dogs I worked with were often the sweetest, most well-behaved, and sometimes the best trained animals I had the pleasure of meeting. I think I heard only one Rottie growl the whole time I was there, and probably because he was fed up with the vet poking him so much. The thing is, if a Pit Bull does attack, the injury is mostly heavy and sometimes fatal, like that incident when two Pit Bulls "shared" a baby.

But I agree, the Pit Bulls, and any other dog, that are reported to attack people come from bad owners. I've seen quite a few Pit Bulls that where like the nicest and well behaved dogs ever. I once went to the park and a car pulled up, the window went down and a PB looked out. His owner stepped out of the car opened the trunk and got out a water bottle, looked at him and nodded her head he jumped out and stood still and looked as if he where begging her to go and run. She nodded again and he ran around in the park without a lease or a dog leash. He absolutely ignored everybody else, including other dogs and cats and just ran.

And yes most little dogs are very aggressive but that comes from the fact that they think their still wolf sized, every dog for that matter thinks he's wolf sized, that's why big dogs are sometimes scared of trivial things due to them not knowing how big they really are.

damn you said a mouth full! and of what you said i want a pit bull! no animal is mean. they are made mean by their owners. of of some thing that happend to the animal. for example: i have a chinchilla her name is gracie, and when we first got her we got a boy chinchilla and chinchillas breed for life, and the boys name was George and he got killed by one of my cats, now that same cat has killed tons of our small pets and we did not have him put down, but anyways, gracie ever sence the boy chin died she has never been the same, not too long after he died gracie bit my moms finger and chinchillas bite hard! when she bit my mom, the chin bit through my moms nail and hit bone, almost went through the bone, just because and animal does something we think is wrong does not mean the animal should be killed. i am an animal lover, and the only reasons an animal should die is, due to a sickness or old age but i still eat meet. imma talkin pets. but yeah MegatronsLady420, i completely agree.

There are dogs out there due poor training, mistreatment, temperament or combinations there of that will be vicious weather it's Pit Bulls, Labs, German Shepards, Pugs, Dobermans, or Yorkshire Terriers. 9 out 10 times it will be the first two (or a combo) I had cousin who had a German Sheppard named Lady and she was extremely well trained and behaved and he kept training and making sure she was behaved.

If you train a dog (and a cat for that matter) and constantly work with them you can most of the time get them to behave.

most of the time medium-big dogs are great behaviored. I have known a bigger dog or 2 that genuinely had a bad attitude. yes it was probably from lack of any training, but still that just led me think that dog was a d*ck. not all are, by any means. MOst small dogs seem to be more aggressive than bigger dogs. Where i live the little terrier absolutely hates me, but loves everyone else. My girlfriends parents dog hates everyone, especially blonde males like me, but she absolutely adores me.My uncles Chow-Chow would growl at anyone if you and my aunt got in a argument, or if you got too close to the baby, but otherwise was the most lovable dog ever.

Animals, like people can have some personality, tho maybe not able to show it as easily as us. I've had several snakes and lizards, same way. my lizard Newman used to hang out on my scalp, hiding in my long hair as i played video games, but newman 2 was a jerk and always bit my finger. Mustakrakish, one of my snakes, would chill then bolt and try to escape while fatboy would just give up.

Even my adorable mouse Dench loved everyone, but killed a baby mole i got him for a friend.

So yes while most animals are not gonna hurt you, most people are stupid and think they will.

Pit Bulls can be awesome dogs but just like any animal they will bite if they are scared or provoked. I have to say though that some of those little dogs are far meaner then big ones.

its not that they're mean its just that they're protecting thier habitat, i know what you mean but think about if some guy just randomly walked in your door and claimed he was just going to live there, you'd do everything to put this guy's butt out wouldn't you? same principal in the animal, especially a wild animal.

Anyhow, I don't think it's right to blame people for being cautious or even afraid of any kind of animal, or dog, or specifically these dogs that are only publicised when they attack. We have an instinctive reaction to safeguard ourselves and so if I only hear about goldfish on television or in the paper when they're killing people, well, I'm staying away from goldfish because they have the potential to harm me. Pitts may be the nicest dogs in all of dogdom, but alas, they only get negative press and that hurts their overall image.
I don't think I've ever seen a pitt in person. They look like they can be mean. That alone is enough to make me keep my distance, but I don't assume that any and every pitt is going to eat my face. My girlfriend has two shitsus (I know, I'm sorry, ok? I can't spell it) and they are mean as hell to me. AND I LIKE DOGS!!! I'm not trying to make a negative comment towards pitts or their owners or admirers, I'm just saying.

They're not mean. They just eat meat as that's what they need to survive. You could say humans are mean by nature, as we are biologically vegetarians yet eat meat as we like it's taste.

I personally do not believe that pits are vicious animals. It all depends on how you treat and train it.

My mom and grandma don't trust them as much as I do, but they would never go up to a person and start lecturing them on their preference for pets. That's just stupid, and it was none of that woman's business.

Thats the problem with people they paint all the dogs with the same brush it isnt the dog in the cases its the owners who are to blame not blaming you MegatronsLady420 as i am a dog owner aswell and as i have seem where i live the local chavs with there pit bull and staffordshire terriers using them to frighten young or elderly people on our estate but if the dog attack it would be the raving mad dogs fault not the oweers some people need to chill and look at the bigger picture as a mate of mine she has a staffie but when it was a pup the second it got out of line she woul discipline it and now it wouldnt hurt a fly

As a lifelong Doberman owner, I have to say it's mostly in the owner, and what isn't the owner is sometimes the attackees fault.

My dobies have all been complete sweeties. But I have seen when someone approached my sister or I aggressively (I'm thinking of one example when I was in school), Bruno, our dobe at the time, did respond angrily: hackles up, growling, snap-biting the air. Didn't bite the person, but I suspect if the person hadn't backed the heck off, there might have been problems.

One of my dearest friends has had only pit bulls and all of his have been marshmallows as well (though, again, I would not advise attacking my friend's daughter in the dog's presence).

But then again, you get idiots (not you!) who get these dogs because they feel totally insecure and think that if they have a 'scary' dog, people will respect them. You know the kind--the kind that actually has the dog attack-trained, and puts those spike-inward collars on their dogs, because they can't control their animal any other way. They're the ones who give the dogs the bad reputations. And sadly, it's their dogs that end up attacking people, which gets them in the news, which means people like your crazy neighbor think they're 'informed' and....the circle of stupidity continues.

i know wheelimus' Chihuahua/jackrussel hates people (because he was rarely walked, and hangs mostly in the backyard), but he(the dog) is quickly swayed when fed or given 30 minutes of alone time with the "intruder"

I hada Springer Spaniel named zipper when I was growing up. She was protective of me and she ran like a Kenyan on PowerThurst. One day she did bite was when my dad was roughhousing around the house and he had me pinned down. I was crying help and Zipper who was barking and kinda playing around with us. Did that angery scary attack bark and bit my dad in the arm and didn't let go till I hit her on the head to Stop.
Then while my dad was freaking out threating to call animal control while she left go went to get a drink in the kitchen and laid down on the sofa and followed me the rest of the night with thease doggie eyes of death she shot at him when he passed by. She sat by me at dinner and went to bed with me. Dad I don't think slept well for a while when she did that bark growl at him when he walked by my room to go to his room.

When a dog bites someone, it is not awesome. Especially when that dog acts like it's prepared to do it again, which, from what I understand from that story, it was.

I get that. And I kinda expected that response.
I know it's serious and is a problem that needs fixing, but when someone talks of a dog that bites someone else cause they think their master's in trouble, I can't really hate the animal, even with it's misguided protective instinct.
In all seriousness I do feel be for most people that get bitten by animals. In this case I do feel bad for Skay Glory's dad.

Dogs like that just need the be disiplined.
My dog Nova has never full out bitten anybody, but she used to mouth us when she was little.
And that could have turned into more.

We taught her that that was bad and she doesn't do it anymore.
The only thing she does with her mouth now is chew squeaky toys and lick our feet (which we try to discourage too because it's surprising and it tickles).

I totally stand behind the Pit Bull breed. It is almost always the owners fault for how the animal turns out. I've dealt with a number of Pits in the last 3 years and have absolutely loved them and they took to me almost instantly, mostly 'cause I was giving them as much if not more attention than their owners would. The only time I've ever been bitten by an agressive dog it was a little yappy P.O.S. that was a block from it's home and actually had to work to catch up and attack me.
My next door neighbors have a pure-breed Pit and a Rot and both charged me one day when the gate was accidentally left open.
I stamped my foot, yelled "NO!" and pointed to the porch and they ran a circle right around me, back inside the yard and up onto their porch and barked at me from there. I closed the gate, had a good chuckle and kept walking. They were defending their turf and maybe a little past but they knew enough not to push it, they know their commands and they obeyed. Good training = no incident.

Unfortunately, a teenage girl in my general area was arrested yesterday after she and some friends used her families Pit Bull as a weapon. Two women, one elderly, were sent to the hospital in 2 different incidents just because this dumb bitch and her friends wanted some laughs. I think they need to clear the Dog of the charges and have the girl "put down".

And likely the poor animal will get put down and that brat of a girl will get off with little consequence.
