Thank you very muchFlashwave wrote:Impactor looks great! I would totally love that. Is Armorhide one of the actual minicons or did you steal him from that other marble shooting transforming toyline I cannot think of the name of right now? I see Armorhide sorting behind his back. And I like what you did with the luminescent paint.
Fallen is awesome. Getting those tiny details painted is no easy task ajd you really did a great job with those

I guess you mean Bakugan. No, the original figure is an R.I.D. 2015 Deployer. That's an action gimmick that launches/shoots Mini-Cons that are especially made for those launchers. Impactor here or the original figure Overload uses Cyclone Mini-Cons. Those are ball-shaped like Armorhide (originally: Backtrack) here. And Overload and Backtrack come packaged in a 2-pack like all Deployer figures but you can buy additional Mini-Cons separately.
And yes, I really like to use fluorescent paints and mix them with normal ones to get this effect with a lot of colors under UV-light. It looks just awesome and really fits to Transformers. I love the War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games' designs and the IDW comics addapted that glowing details design pretty well, too. So I want all of my figures to look kind of like that.Fallen is awesome. Getting those tiny details painted is no easy task ajd you really did a great job with those

Yes, but I used a very fine brush so that made it a bit easier at least.

Hey Lb-K, nice to hear from you again. Yea, same here with work. I just started my first "real/big" job.Latebrus-K wrote:Hey LP, just saw this on the roundup and figured I’d drop by. With classes starting up I haven’t been able to customize in ages, but your work is still very inspiring.
I saw some of your customs on “the other site”, too. Very curious to see how BW impactor turns out.
With earthfall revealed, does anything from that seem to be worth customizing?
I already got an emulator on "the other site"[...], but your work is still very inspiring.

I'm planning on making a Nova Prime out of TR Optimus. Do you have any tips? It'll be my first real customization project.

I'm looking forward to see that. Still waiting for an official one and as we get IDW exclusive characters in the Generations line (SIEGE Rung) and Cyberverse cartoon (Tarn) now that's more and more likely to actually happen.
But back to your question...
First of all: WHICH TR OP? There's the Leader class version which is a retool of CW Ultra Magnus and the Voyager one.
But no matter which one it is I suggest that you get very familiar with the figure and know its transformation by heart. If there are any areas where paint could be rubbed or scratched off due to transforming or posing the figure, you should remove material there to prevent that before paiting those parts. But before you remove any material you have to think about how this could affect every single mode of the figure. For example I removed some plastic on the inside of Overload's/Impactor's belly because it scratched off the paint on the belt buckle. Later I found out that I actually needed that edge I removed to connect the torso piece with the launcher in tank mode. Fortunately I found out a little trick to make it still work. But if there are no areas where paint could be scratched off respectively you don't need to mod anything you don't need to think about that.
And maybe you want to dye major areas instead of painting them. Then you have to worry about paintwear even less. But I haven't dyed anything so far except of some clothes by mistake maybe. So I can't help you there.
So then how do you want to paint it? Brush, airbrush, spray can or a combination of those?
And do you want to give him his wings or alter anything else or do you want to do a straight up repaint?

I'm going to stick with a repaint of the Voyager for now. I plan on using a brush. Got any tips for paints? I just plan on doing the 'bot mode and truck mode.
