I'm done with G1!
In the middle of 2003 I bought Snarl, and last night I bought Monster Pretender Bristleback, in between those purchases came about 150 figures, but now I'm done with buying vintage g1 figures - I've got all the figures I want. I'm finally in the position where the only figures I want haven't actually been released yet. (Equally I'm done with Beast Wars and the Unicron Trilogy but I don't have many figures from those lines.)
I tried to explain this milestone to my girlfriend, and initially she was delighted - 'So no more toys!?', 'Erm, well, no, I'll still be getting the new figures that come out' I said. She didn't quite appreciate the milestone, so I hoped you guys might be more enthusiastic for me!
I started out just wanting to collect the dinobots, then I started getting the reissues, and soon it turned into getting all (well most) of the figures from Seasons 1 and 2 of the cartoon, virtually every animal transformer (including the Japanese figures), all of the leaders from the cartoons (including the Japan series) plus almost all of the baseformers (including the micromaster bases but excluding Japanese exclusives). Early on I was adding figures to the 'to get' list quicker than I could buy them, but I've finally crossed them all off.
Despite my fairly clear collecting goals, I've managed not to be entirely completest - I've not got some of the really expensive figures (the Japanese only dino cassettes for instance), or the ones I really couldn't convince myself of the merits of (the Firecons for instance), or some of the Season 2 Autobots on the grounds there were loads more Autobots than Decepticons.
I've spent a fair old amount of money over the 7 years, so it will be good to finally give my bank account a bit of a rest (apart from the Generations line that is). I almost wish I could have gone back in time and told the 2003 version of me to get some of the figures as it's amazing how much the prices have gone up over the years.
I reckon Hasbro and Takara might be able to tempt me with a few select reissues (such as the Seacons), but otherwise, I'm done!
Hopefully I will get some photos of my collection up in the collection forum soon.

Congrats man. Targeted collecting is deffo the way to go, now you budget for the new stuff as and when without breking the bank. It makes dropping a lot of money on one large figure (like Predaking or Sleep Convoy) a little easier....

We certainly DO appreciate the milestone! It sounds like you did some hardcore collecting so maybe you deserve a reward or a nice new Generations figure!

Indeed! A worthy accomplishment. I may begin to follow a similar track after I properly ID all the ones I have, that are more than 10 years old.
Grails:
Bots: G1 Bumblebee; Balance of Aerialbots(I have Air Raid)
parts: Overload's arms. Wanted badly

Congrats man!
I've just started a similar campaign to obtain all the G1s I had as a kid (as well as many others that I wanted!)... I've made a list and started going through it. I'm also trying to collect the reissues too!

Same here I'm done with the G1 stuff. When I first got back into collecting a couple years ago I just wanted to buy Prime, the cassettes, Predaking, and Devastator and that was it. Then I started getting talked into more, I kept buying until just recently and thought to myself and said I'm really going way off track so I just kept the Cassetticons, Prime, Devastator, and the Comic Con Blaster and Soundwave along with the insecticons couldn't get rid of them now just waiting on Predaking. So again I'm done I would rather go for the updated classics G1 figures only and maybe the Masterpiece figures.

Re: I'm done with G1!
Thanks for the congrats!
I think it's going to be a while before I see any 'savings' - I just looked at my preorder page on BBTS and with the Seacons, Fansproject Bruticus and Marvel Universe Galactus still to come it could be a fairly pricey end to the year.
I agree with the sentiments regarding g1 versus classics collecting, but the thing about g1 is that there are some great toys/characters who will never be updated (and really, nor would I want them to be) - the Monsterbots or the Pretender Beasts for instance. That's what pulled me in. Combined with an appreciation for the diaclone/microman figures and the desire to create a Micromaster/baseformers city, it was difficult to stop.
Good luck to those still working on their collections!
I'm hoping to pick up a Darkmount figure soon to celebrate!

Re: I'm done with G1!
Congratulations, I'm jealous! G1 remains my largest undercollected series. I've come close to reaching my goals for most of the recent lines, but non-reissued G1s remain out of my reach for the time being.
Well done, I hope we can see pics of your collection soon!

Nice going with the G1 collection. That is no small accomplishment. I wouldn't mind getting a few more figures from the G1 era, but there are a lot of figures from the more modern lines that I like a lot more. I think the RID line is freaking awesome, and I really want to finish out the Alternators line-these have become some of my favorites, and I only have 3 at the moment, so I have a lot of collecting left to do.

I can feel your accomplishment and know that you feel proud. I wish too, also feel this. I went from trying to collect the one figures that I wanted when I was a kid, to finding large groups bought in bulk of figures I didn't have. Then I found a site and bought the Japanese Transformer tv series badly dubbed and got hooked on those. My collection starts to fall short near the Pretenders, Targetmasters, and everything after. It starts to pick back up at Beast Wars and got heavy with everything after that. I guess I'm one of those guys that wants to have them all. So congrats to you, even like how you got them showcased. Wish I could say the same for mine, so many figures and so little room. Maybe one day I to can have the pride your feeling.

Wow, you completed your G1, does that included FMax too? If so, congrat man!
I'm hoping I can achieve that goal too but that darn FMax is just too expensive. My only hope is TTomy reissues him.

Indeed it does! You can see a picture in the collection forum linked above - I bought when the US dollar was doing really badly in 2007 so got him for a good price. I bought the body with leg guns and Cerebros, then got a repro gun, sword and Spike.

I'm pretty close to this point. Close enought to be satisfied. I still want Snarl and maybe some targetmasters.
