Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3

Made the hour long trip to see it today, and definitely worth it!
RDJ once again is brilliant as Tony Stark. The story picks up after The Avengers and the final battle has left Tony rattled to the point he suffers anxiety attacks which in turn affects his relationship with Pepper.
IM3 brings another major element from the comic universe with the introduction of Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.). No beehive suits however and A.I.M. is founded by Aldrich Killan (Guy Pearce, great performance) (co-developer of Extremis in the comics).
The Mandarin ... Ben Kingsley is superb. However he is very far removed from the comics version. The role Mandarin plays in the movie may in fact piss a lot of comic fans off.
War Machine is no more and is "re-branded" as part of a publicity campaign into Iron Patriot. Don Cheadle gets more screen time and more action but the Iron Patriot armour has nothing on the War Machine armour.
At the end, it's a closure for the trilogy. We are given four words on the screen "Tony Stark Will Return" but in what capacity is never revealed.
And like all recent Marvel movies, you have to do two things.
1 - Play the "Spot Stan Lee" game. (be quick)
2 - Wait until the end of the credits. Sadly, nothing big. No set up for any other movies (or it could be and they're holding off announcing it), just an appearance from another Avenger we've already met.
All in all, great movie, little darker, little more serious, and wraps the Iron Man trilogy up neatly.

I never read the comics so I initially thought about the Mandarin as some Bane rip off, but I was very wrong and very entertained.

I'm not sure if the title of 'mandarin' really applies for him.
And yes, you should see it.

Kind of open to interpretation I guess.
Looking back, it is a little disappointing that IM's greatest villain was reduced to ... THAT and the main villain turns out to be someone who committed suicide the same issue he debuted.

As did I, though I accepted that we may not see the power rings as such, but with the first movie set up the whole "Ten Rings" terrorist group I was under the impression (and they'd pretty much said so in interviews) that it would be coming full circle.
Not really the case at all.

Depressed character with weakness, both physical and mental? Check.
Fake villain with the mastermind being close to one of the protagonists? Check.
The hero's female sidekick kills the bad guy? Check.
The plot was competely unoriginal and I hated what became of the Mandarin. The action sequeces, as expected, were dazzling, and the tone of the movie was considerably darker than average (a step in the right direction for Marvel), but all of that was completely overshadowed by the completely incoherent plot.

The hero coming out of retirement?
The hero subtly training a replacement?
The hero learning the entire reason for his retirement was a lie, and having a falling out with his father figure/closest friend and confidant for it?
An entire city going into isolation and descending into chaos under the threat of nuclear annihilation?
The hero apparently dying by diverting said nuclear annihilation?
Yeah, just like Dark Knight Rises...
By the way, what about Bane made him a fake villain?

It gets a whole letter grade drop because of how they trashed Mandarin.
Now granted, the general audiences don't know they missed any opportunity for greatness. Heck a chance to see a character using "power rings" in a cool movie even. As noted by another Favreau and Feige had stated they were building to the Mandarin. It wasn't until Shane Black came to Feige(this is in interviews, too lazy to look for links) and suggested the change. So I'm curious to see the screenplay version of Mandarin BEFORE Shane Black got the approval to make Mandarin a harmless phoney.
What if you went to a Batman movie and were told the Joker is really a harmless carnival clown who is so inept he can't make balloon animals very good? That's how I feel Feige mishandled this Mandarin exercise, especially when put into context of the first film. They even went out of their way on the IM2 DVD featurettes to do an expose on the "Mysterious 10 Rings Informant" who gives Ivan Vanko the plane ticket and credentials to get to Monaco.

He wasn't really a fake villain, but he wasn't the mastermind behind everything.

Kind of was. There are countless plot similarities as pointed out above.

Uh...by that reasoning, Darth Vader was a "fake villain."

Countless? You pointed out three, that's hardly countless. And then I pointed out a bunch of major differences.

Woops, completely misread your first post.

Darth Vader was the bad guy of Star Wars. Darth Sidious was above him in only position. Darth Sidious didnt do any fighting past Episode 3 in the timeline of the franchise. Darth Vader did all of the work for him. In TDKR and IM3, the real villain actually gets into combat, and is more sinister and formidable that the 'fake bad guy.'

Uh...the "real villain" so to speak of Dark Knight Rises, Talia? Didn't do any fighting. She got into a car chase and stabbed Batman, and did all the planning, but ultimately, Bane, your so-called "fake villain" did all the real fighting.
Dude, did you even see TDKR?

Yes I did, but I for some reason cant spit out what I'm trying to say.
what I should have said from the beginning is that the so called 'fake villain' is believed to be legit throughout most of the movie, but the true villain is discovered later.
